Bell of Lost Souls: 40K & FANTASY RUMORS: Q2-Q3 2009 Schedule Whispers

  • Drop Trooper · 9 months ago
pretty sure it's going to be spacehulk, hope it is, havn't played that for years
  • Mike X · 9 months ago
In my opinion, and I could be wrong, but Jervis Johnson himself said that there wouldn't be any new armies after Daemons because they don't have the time or resources to work on such things and keep them updated.

And so, I think bringing back Spacehulk would fall into the "we have too much to do right now and can't start something new" category.

I, too, believe their time and resources would be much better spent on other projects, like Dark Eldar and expansions (ie, Planetstrike and that 40K-equivalent to Mighty Empires).
  • kire · 9 months ago
if space hulk is a one off game then there is no need to update it. and in the troubled world economy it may be seen as a quick source of cash.
  • Mike X · 9 months ago
Maybe they don't need to update it, but they still need to design it. Or, technically speaking, re-design it.
  • Sathos · 9 months ago
I gotta say i'm with the people who think its likely, it really wouldnt be hard for them on the design front when they already have snap together terminators to throw in the box and sorting snap together genestealers would be a 3 day job for anyone in the modelling/casting section.

As for the game boards, they would be handled by a completely different department so I would have thought Space Hulk very likely... i guess we shall just have to wait and see :)
  • intellectawe · 9 months ago
    I hope its Dark Eldar.
  • TheGreatBeyond · 9 months ago
Dark Eldar won't be til 1st Quarter 2010 I'm afraid.
  • intellectawe · 9 months ago
So we know whats coming out in 2010 but not fall of 2009?
  • keeperofthebook1 · 9 months ago
It's just they said in a recent podcast that Dark Eldar were 1-2 years away. Ridiculous, I know.
  • Nick · 9 months ago
It might be a big release of stuff that has been siting waiting for the planetstrike that is coming. Like the landing pad and bunker.

Although space hulk would be VERY nice, I don't see it as a sudden release as the rumors haven't really been talking about it in any detail.
And if they did do it, I would want them to support it better than the second release of space hulk, as it was nowhere the fun of the first with its multiple expansions.

My vote is for the battle missions book, with some releases tied to that. Like objectives or terrain.
  • Miami · 9 months ago
Really? If you check out Warseer, there's a great deal of rumors on Space Hulk that were floating around about a month ago.

Most of the rumors I've been seeing put Space Wolves sometime around December now. If that holds true, then hopefully the "40K related release" is another codex (though I am doubtful). Around the beginning of the year people "in the know" were claiming 4 codexes, then it changed to 3 codexes and Planetstrike. I think it would be pretty sad if GW could only manage 2 codexes this year. It's not like they've been pumping out a lot of Fantasy or LoTR. If this trend continues, then I hate to say it but I think they need to drop the LoTR game. I don't see it sell well at any store I go to (including the Chicago Battle Bunker) and it only takes up valuable time for them to be making models for games that sell much better. Sorry to all the fans of the LoTR game, but let's just leave that to the people who do it best, the Tolkeins.
  • Catzilla · 9 months ago
I don't know about your place but here in the UK, a lot of people are playing LotR actually.
There is always a game going on when I enter th store and actually more people own a LotR army as a 2nd army besides 40k than they do WFB...*shrugs*
  • Big J · 9 months ago
I'm at the Chicago Battle Bunker all the time, and although I don't know how well it's selling I see people playing it all the time.
  • TheGreatBeyond · 9 months ago
*sigh* BoLS. Empire 2nd Wave, Skaven, Planetstrike and Space Wolves are all but confirmed for the second half of the year. It's really just Space Hulk and the 3rd "mystery" army release that has people in different camps with varying levels of "evidence" leaving them currently up in the air.
  • intellectawe · 9 months ago
Uhhh..... That is EXACTLY what the post is about. You are misreading the post lol.
  • TheGreatBeyond · 9 months ago
No it's not. Have another read yourself. bigred said that the Sons of Russ (i.e. Space Wolves) may be the mystery 40K related release - they are not. Space Wolves are all but confirmed for the second half of the year. The "mystery 40K related release" is the 3rd *army* for the year. Not Space Hulk, not Space Wolves. Something else. Learn2rumour.
  • RealGenius · 9 months ago
Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
  • intellectawe · 9 months ago
I have to ask, why would you say this?
  • Molochi · 9 months ago
    Because it's funny.
  • Miami · 9 months ago
I wouldn't be so sure. There's a new rumor going around saying that the Space Wolves have been bumped back to December, which has people thinking that most likely means either November or January, as GW doesn't usually release a lot of things in December.

"All but confirmed" doesn't mean anything when it comes to GW rumor-mongering. Less than a year ago, Necrons were "all but confirmed" to be one of the next couple releases, and then everyone finds out that no one was even working on them. Dark Eldar have been one to two codexes away for about three years, and the stompa rumor that accompanied the Apocalypse release was set back quite a bit. I don't know where bigred gets his info from, but it very well could be that his source didn't want to say Space Puppies because there may be some uncertainty about their current release window, and if they are pushed back something may be pushed up. You should be nicer to people when you're talking about things you don't know for sure are happening.
  • Ej · 9 months ago
Hilariously, I remember reading something very similar along these lines about the Space Wolves last year. And we got a codex in December.

Oh. Oh wait. No we didn't. As you say "Learn2rumour," or rather, don't put stock in rumours until there's something concrete.

And no, a single goddamn collector model is not something concrete.
  • DM294 · 9 months ago
As someone who's never played Space Hulk (I do have a general idea of what it is, and from what I've gleaned about it, it sounds absolutely awesome), I sincerely hope that it will come out. It could be utilized in a 40k Apoc game/tournament in which capturing a space hulk could affect a larger campaign on the planet's surface? Mix in some planetstrike, and you've got an awesome year for 40k gaming goodness.
  • W_E · 9 months ago
We are in the same boat here, it would be a blast to play it, plus if they do release it with a diferent set of termies/stealers that would make it e more Awesome.

PS heard that the Sega Saturn version of the game was rather good, wish they re-released it too for the DS with internet multiplayer.
  • locky · 9 months ago
personally im hopin to god that the "soace hulk" release is actually a blood angels one instead as my min in red need some serious lovin
  • Alexander Kinn · 9 months ago
While I am usually in favor of any release, the Blood Angels just got a new codex. And a free one at that! Though I certainly wouldn't be opposed to some sweet new predator plastics.
  • Parcival · 9 months ago
Well, we got a new free Codex, but it is a carelessly overworked full of errors like Rhinos having no doors. I'd love to get a decent Codex asap, but I think that Space Wolves and DH/WH deserve it a lot more.
  • Ej · 9 months ago
Hey, at least they're fast! 50% of the time.
  • Commander Spera · 9 months ago
The mystery release is most likely the ironclad dreadnought and the land speeder storm that never came out with the last space marine release .
  • TheGreatBeyond · 9 months ago
The mystery release is more along the lines of a book or publication, i.e. a Codex. We will be getting the 2nd Wave Marines models later this year. That is known, just not what month. Although speculation seems to indicate around the same time as Planetstrike, which is slated for July.
  • albertsevil · 9 months ago
If we're due for a second wave of Marines built within the Planetstrike release, then i hope they include Daemons too.
Both armies have only a few more models that need to be released and to take up a whole slot for one seems a waste. Tieing those two second waves in with Planetstrike (or around the same time) would generate much needed interest and also give a number of new shiny things to sell over the school holidays - for that's when i think we'll see Planetstrike.
Makes sense to me at least, but GW have never been ones to stick to sense ;-)
  • Miami · 9 months ago
It's possible that many armies will get a release or two around Planetstrike. There is the Ironclad and the Storm, as mentioned. The plastic Daemon Prince has been in picture form for quite some time, and Pathfinders, a Flash Git, and a Broodlord (or so I'm told, looks like a beefy Lictor to me) have been seen, and there are other (less reliable) possibilities as well.

Some of these could just be collector's range models like the Space Wolf recenltly released, but I'm all for hoping a big splash release is due with Planetstrike. Plus, there's always the Thunderhawk rumor!
  • obsequiousmelon · 9 months ago
I know this is going to be annoying but something in the recent white dwarf (I can't remember where) seemed to imply something imperial (not guard) would come out in the not too distant future. I know this is vague but one of the articles seemed to hint at it and i remember making a mental link with planetstrike. Did anyone else get a similar vibe or am I going mental. I'll check white dwarf and be more specific if i have time.
  • TheGreatBeyond · 9 months ago
Yeah I know what you are talking about and it did seem to be hinting at Planetstrike as I recall.
  • Denzark · 9 months ago
I hope skaven comes soon- not that I like to see BoLS waste it's time with stuff outside of 40K but because when they do it seems to be only Dark Elf and Lizardmen they jabber on about and skaven would make a nice change.
  • nurglespuss · 9 months ago
So basically, what everyone in these posts are saying is: I don't know whats coming out, no one knows whats coming out, I hope its this 'X' but if you think its this 'X' your wrong, because, ummmm I don't want it to be!

Rumours are all good and well, but wait for actual rumours! you can't just create them out of thin air!! :>
  • TheGreatBeyond · 9 months ago
The majority of releases are known for the rest of the year (although the exact months for some aren't firm) it's only Space Hulk and the "mystery release" that seem to be up in the air.
  • faultie · 9 months ago
Of course you can create rumours out of thin air. That's how it's usually done.

What's the old saying? If you don't know a rumour, make one up. :)
  • intellectawe · 9 months ago
    Faultie

He most like comes from a bloated site like Warseer, which is pretty accurate since 'rumors' are mainly control leaked by GW insiders anyway.

But I know what you mean though.
  • faultie · 9 months ago
    *kicks the dirt*

Awww...I was just trying to be humorous. :(
  • Sethe · 9 months ago
    I think your funny.
  • TheGreatBeyond · 9 months ago
Skaven will be the first Fantasy Army Book release in the second half of the year (current rumour is August) so rejoice skitterling!
  • Ebsolom · 9 months ago
Nice! I'm hoping it's a BA Codex complete with a whole new range of minis although the Dark Eldar really do need updated more than anything.
  • Sathos · 9 months ago
DE are looking more to be a 2010 and the chances of Blood Angels getting another codex so soon is almost zero I would have thought... they released that free one in white dwarf for a reason :)
  • keeperofthebook1 · 9 months ago
Because they hate Blood Angels? Only reason I can think of to inflict that on us. lmao. (sort of) joking
  • Miami · 9 months ago
Or to take away your uber-overpowered 3rd edition "codex." I'm not saying the White Dwarf codex was that great, but it looks all the worse since you went from being one of the most overpowered codexes to a bland, boring, but mostly balanced codex.

Rumors, however, are out there about Blood Angels getting a new codex sometime next year. Some people even speculate that they may be the "mystery release."
  • SinSynn · 9 months ago
Blood Angels still get Assault squads as troop choices and the Death Company(FNP, Furious Charge, Rending weapons)-one free with every squad!
They regularly treat my Tau like Ned Beatty in the movie 'Deliverence', almost as bad as Orks...or any army with any kind of assault capability, really. Yeah, a lot of 'piggy squealin' goin' on right now.
God, do all Tau players envy all the other guys and loathe their own armies like I do right now?
  • Anon · 9 months ago
I am tired of people asking for a chapter specific codex. The Space Marines already have a new codex and breaking it down is a waste of time that could be more beneficial to the hobby as a whole. I current collect tau and BA but the last thing I want is for the BA or the SW to get a codex.
  • Asymmetrical Xeno · 9 months ago
Maybe if I hope hard enough, Tzeentch will give me plastic horrors from the warp!
  • Dragonlv8 · 9 months ago
Last time I was at games workshop I was talking to one of the guys who work their about up coming releases, he told me that planet strike is completly bogus, it isn't happening, I didn't even mention it, we where talking about things I had seen on the internet and he mentioned it as an example of things on the internet not to trust.
I have to admit im a bit skeptical about the space hulk as well.
  • TheGreatBeyond · 9 months ago
Unless they are trusted close personal friends, redshirts (or blackshirts, blueshirts, etc, depending where you are) are singlehandedly THE WORST source of rumour information. God the rubbish I've heard spouted as fact from someone who "heard it from a redshirt" over the years...
  • Sathos · 9 months ago
Same here TGB lol I was told once upon a time by none other than one of the guys at warhammer world that tyranids would not be getting updated properly for another year... a couple of months later the world is hit my major tyranid spam lol

Remember people, GW look at these forums... they may even post..heck GW may even have an entire "rumour" department dedicated to it lol and if they think its fun or beneficial to misdirect you, they will :)

To take it further (and yes I know its EXTREMELY unlikely but its an example) Dark Eldar could already be ready for release, do we know 100% that jervis wasnt scripted for saying that they are being delayed etc?

Dont trust rumour, dont trust GW, they spread them as well as any of us do if not better :)
  • faultie · 9 months ago
Everything you know is a lie!

Perhaps that's all the evidence we need for an =I= codex.
  • Sethe · 9 months ago
The coolest marketing strategy in history would be to market one army, models, fake codex, everything, and have it all be a lie by the =I= and release them instead....
  • faultie · 9 months ago
    Dum-dum-duuuuuum!
  • intellectawe · 9 months ago
    Sathos

GW insiders / employees are part of the main foundation for some of the bloated warhammer sites, like Warseer, etc...

So it becomes a trick to sort out the 'true' rumors GW control leaks out among the internet community and what 'normal' people hear/make up.
  • Asymmetrical Xeno · 9 months ago
So I shouldnt believ from the person who heard it from another person who heard it from another guy from a redshirt that Enslavers, Demiurg, Chaos Tau , Q'orl and Slaughth are next this year ;-P
  • TheInnerGeek · 9 months ago
    Can I get Zoats too?
  • Asymmetrical Xeno · 9 months ago
Apparently they're out next year in the 3rd quarter as part of the new 40k breakfast cerial (Zoatabix).
  • TheInnerGeek · 9 months ago
Will I only be allowed to eat it with 40k milk while at official tournaments?
  • Ej · 9 months ago
Best thread in the whole article, right here.
  • Asymmetrical Xeno · 9 months ago
Yes, but you'll have trouble eating it because they keep putting off the release of the official Dark Eldar Spoon. Maybe in another ten years...
  • keeperofthebook1 · 9 months ago
A redshirt once told me, when they were restructuring mail order, that the classic Harlequins weren't going anywhere...
  • tyraelvladinhurst · 9 months ago
they said the same thing about apcoylpse. it's all about misdirection until it can be released
  • joe · 9 months ago
i've had the same conversations, and it seems the underlings are employed to say that. but it does leave bored people on the net something to talk/argue/complain about
  • Grant Michael McKenna · 9 months ago
Nobody has mentioned Squats yet, so I won't either.
  • Parcival · 9 months ago
    LOL
  • kacee99_99 · 9 months ago
    RUSS! RUSS! RUSS! RUSS! RUSS!

Yea fine and all some people saying the wolves are "almost confirmed" and others saying that they are rumored....

Heck, even the guys in the shop are saying "unofficially" its Wolftime in August or September...

But until I have that book clasped in my hands.... its not here yet.

They have been hinting at our new codex for 3 years...... please let it be soon.
  • Soundwave · 9 months ago
I think its most likely to be the Space Wolves. I'll be slightly disappointed if it is though. I'm mainly an Imperium player (Blood Ravens) but my Xenos side projects need some love. Everything has been so Imperium oriented lately, what about Necrons, Dark Eldar and Tau?
  • Sathos · 9 months ago
DE are on the way... likely q1 2010, Necrons they could get away with just a codex update although plastic immortals would be nice...
Tau? I cant see it yet in all honesty... their codex is pretty recent and their models are largely upto date so they will likely be back of the queue.
  • Anon · 9 months ago
Tau have decent models with decent possible variation. The only thing they need are either new units to give them some variety (vespid don't count) or a battle suit redesign (the weak ankles cost a lot). I hope GW would give love to necrons instead and I don't even play them.
  • Soundwave · 9 months ago
I collect Tau as a sideline, but I think their Codex is up to date enough, they just need a pdf to tie up the bits that don't make sense - such as "Does a Devilfish with drones give 2 KPs?".

I don't collect DE or Necrons but I've looked through their Codices and they badly need improving. Alot of their stuff makes no sense anymore, or units are wrongly priced for what they do, and the players using them can exploit some rules. So I'm hoping it's one of these! Necrons more than DE because they could be far more interesting than they currently are!
  • keeperofthebook1 · 9 months ago
Here, here! Dark Eldar and Necrons FTW :)
  • Anon · 9 months ago
Anyone who says that a devilfish with drones is worth 2KP needs to slapped with a herring. Even if the rules may be interprited that way it obviously is a serious disadvantage and not meant to occur. Some people just don't have the common sence of a sack of rocks...
  • Soundwave · 9 months ago
This is what one of my friends have been saying, because you don't pay points for it the drones aren't a KP. I always gave my opponent 2 KP's for a DFish to avoid arguments but the more I hear about it being 1 the more sure I am. Here's my reason that a DFish w/Drones is 1KP:
The Drones are listed as a "weapons" option for the tank. This is similar to Asdrubael Vect of the DE, his vehicle isn't worth a KP because it's listed as "wargear"
  • Anon · 9 months ago
Even if the rules could say that the drones are worth a KP no one should play that way. That is almost as stupid as claiming that a biovore(think that the mine shooter) craps KPs or a deff rolla can be used against a tank.

Some people are so desperate to squeeze an advantage out of the unclear rules that they ruin the game for others.
  • SinSynn · 9 months ago
Due to the new emphasis on close combat in 5th ed., the Tau need to be updated in some fashion, and given means to compete on some level. And DO NOT say 'Kroot' to me. Toughness 3, Leadership 7, and NO save? THAT'S our close combat unit? We're screwed. The '08 GT winners named Tau as the current 'pushover' army in interviews, posted on GW's website. We need help, dammit. I don't care what form it takes. A PDF codex (like Blood Angels) or White Dwarf supplement would be fine. As it stands, the assaulty nature of 5th Ed. has made the Tau pretty much uncompetetive.
DE have been neglected too long, so I wouldn't mind them getting love first. A single, blanket 'Forces of the Inquisition' book would be nice, too. Sell those Sisters and Grey Knights, eh?
My thought is that GW wants folks playing Orks or Marines. An Ork player has to purchas A LOT of boxes, and Space Marine players need 'one of everything', just to cover their bases. Hence the love from GW, IMO.
  • Ridicule · 9 months ago
Wasn't there supposed to be another Daemon-wave shorty after guard? Or was it even before?

Anyway, mystery release sure as shit isn't going to be Russ's boys. I still think the end of the year is when we could expect them.
  • Tim M · 9 months ago
I for one would love a an updated Tau codex, even a "free" one, so as to get rid of the dead weight stuff that no one ever uses, like vespids.
  • Sathos · 9 months ago
one man's rubbish is another man's treasure... I have one lone squad of vespids and their kill tally is disgusting :)

I'm not saying they are the most amazing unit but they are definitely usable
  • intellectawe · 9 months ago
The only reason why Vespids would be treasure is because your opponents are trash.

    :)
  • Miami · 9 months ago
One man's treasure is another man who is trash?
  • Anon · 9 months ago
I'm not gonna lie piranhas are kinda lame as well. They are just boring looking and seem to be designed solely for the sake of introducing something new. Not to mention to make an effective squad is way too expensive.
  • Miami · 9 months ago
I agree they're not very useful (bad weapon choices) but their aesthetic is one of the things that drew me to Tau in the first place! Piranhas and Fire Warriors. Sadly, the necessity of anime looking robot suits killed the fun for me.
  • Horus31 · 9 months ago
At UK Games day 2008 I remember Jervis saying he was working on chapter specific CSM codexs starting with world eaters, could that be the mystery release?

I think Space hulk is likely (they have been working on it for ages as an aside project) but I envisaged it getting pre-released at games day similar to the Talisman release.
  • TheInnerGeek · 9 months ago
I'm hoping it's 40k themed Kleenex. That way all the people who are disappointed that it wasn't what they were hoping can still get some use out of it. Either that or Space Hulk... Of course, talk about something that doesn't need updating. That game runs awesome in it's first edition form.
  • faultie · 9 months ago
You win at internets, my friend. I too hope for 40k Kleenex.
  • RealGenius · 9 months ago
    Ooh, I third!

weren't there a load of rumours late last year about a new necron codex with lots of new leaders and stuff like that. i cant really remember but that could be it
  • Bijyu · 9 months ago
There was indeed. In fact at one point here on BOLS we thought it was going to be Guard, spacewolves,Dark eldar,Necrons. All this year. However GW seems to have pushed the 4th and even possibly the 3rd race back and no one knows what race the second one is.

I do find it odd that GW would just release a new space wolf model instead of waiting for the codex. Personally I despise the chapter fluff wise find them boring TT wise and hope the most they get codex wise is a new pdf. Well heres hoping its necrons/dark eldar as both races actually need love while space wolves should just be using the new space marine codex.
  • Bloodthirster · 9 months ago
i honestly can';t c sw getting a new dex before the royal(and the best army ever) blood angels gw said they were making a ba dex well before we started 2 here rumours of a sw dex not that sw dont desperatly need it more though

Riiiight, calling the vampires royalty....nah.......WOLVES ROCK!
  • Equinox · 9 months ago
I like to speculate and gamble, so I am going to give my odds for what the third codex is going to be for this year.

Tyranids 10 - 1 (New Broodlord model, Space Hulk Release, Hints of a Trygon)
Inquisition 20 -1 (Rumors of plastic grey knights and stormtroopers. References to Planet Strike and the next IA books having an Inquisition theme.)
Nothing 30-1 (Planetstrike, Space Hulk, recent Apocalypse models makes me think that two codices are all we are getting and that a third one is a smoke screen.)
Chaos Legions 50-1 (Daemon Prince [I doubt it wont hit this year]. I agree with a comment here that it will likely focus only on Khorne)
Tau 60-1 (There is enough model drops of late to imply that something may be coming in the near pipeline. Would be another quick win like the last codex, but I see these guys kicking off 2010.)
Dark Eldar 100-1 (I am sure they got stuff done for them, but I don't see this being the year.)
Necrons 250-1 (There is nothing to support them coming this year. I expect 2010 to be a xeno-centric year that includes my beloved machines.)
Blood Angels 1000-1 (Nope. If they are the third codex, I will raffle a copy of the codex off on my blog.)
  • faultie · 9 months ago
I'd like to put $5 down on the Blood Angels. Another good saying,
"If there's ever 1000 to 1 odds, you take it. Doesn't matter what it is, you take it."
  • TheInnerGeek · 9 months ago
At the odds he's giving, you could put $5 on everything and come out ahead...
  • faultie · 9 months ago
Unless it's none of those. He could be one of *them*, here to make us think that the Codex =I= isn't ever coming out. Of course, that's highly unlikely...which makes you even more suspicious!

    It's like X-files.
    Mulder: "I'm sure something happened!"
Sculley: "But we have no proof at all."
Mulder: "That makes me even surer!"
  • Equinox · 9 months ago
Unless the next book is Eldar.
  • Miami · 9 months ago
No kidding. 5 bucks on everything is 40 dollars, and I probably wouldn't put money on it being nothing, as you could argue even one model as "something." The lowest payout is 50 bucks for 'Nids.

Here's what little I know (or think I know):

It's not Nids, Necrons, or Dark Eldar, according to Harry, whom from my experience has never said something that wasn't true.
  • DustDevil · 9 months ago
*sigh* Whatever happened to Codex: XenosHunters? I guess it is too much to hope we will ever see this come out to complete the trinity of Inquisition ordos.
  • TheInnerGeek · 9 months ago
With the size they are making the codices these days, I'd bet on an Inquisition book that has all three branches in it. That's what I'd do if I were the king of GW anyway.
  • Dark Blood · 9 months ago
they might link it with planet strike
  • Equinox · 9 months ago
I think you may be on the right track, but I would wait for the train whistle before letting everyone else know it.
  • Equinox · 9 months ago
I think you would be thinking right.

Bottom Line Up Front: My thoughts here are based on things I've read on other boards and my own thoughts on GW marketing strategies. I am not talking with any cloak-and-dagger Deep Throat operative from Nottingham.

That being said, here are my thoughts on this mystery release.

Space Wolves this year I think is a foregone conclusion. It's been in the hopper for quite a while now, and that model generated enough buzz, I think they had to release it, though I too wonder why they didn't just wait til the codex release.

Dark Eldar? Desperately needed, but not close enough from the buzz I've heard.

Necrons? I have about 1500 points of them and never bothered. Seriously. A little life shot into their codex might make the army a bit more fun. I also think that, given how they've been fixing the other dex units, we might see Flayed Ones, Wraiths, Pariahs, and the like get improved a bit. But, again, there's little to no confirmed rumors (past the point that the C'tan will move to Apoc) of anything looming on the horizon.

A Codex: Inquisition is still years down the pipe. There's a lot that would have to be changed/fixed in separated codecies, let alone a big huge honking "all ordo" version. I'd love to see it, and I'd love to see Grey Knights good against Daemons and otherwised a balanced force, but I think that's year(s) away still.

Nobody's said anything about the possibility of AdMech, and I'm not saying I've heard something, but if it's Imperium-related.... Something to think about.

Maybe this would be some revolutionary idea? Like undoing something they'd done in the past? Maybe breaking the Sisters out and not making them strictly Ordo Hereticus affiliated? A whole, separate SOB list? Again, supposition.

We're getting Guard. We're likely getting PlanetStrike. We're likely getting Wolves. That sounds like a full plate. I'd be willing to bet that this "mystery 40k release" is either the Wolves (and the rumors separating them were bad) or something general, like another Apoc book, the Mission Book we've heard rumblings about, or something of that nature.

I agree that DA and BA need to get fixed, too, mind you, but I think that's going to come later, around the same time we see the Chaos Legios dealt with. Tau need a thorough FAQ, I think, and maybe some new models, but that's it.

The only other thing I might consider, I hesitate to even bring up, because fanboy frenzy will ensue. But it says "40k-related release." Doesn't necessarily mean a book. Could also mean another huge plastic kit. Which leads me to the question: What other big 40k superheavies have we heard they were looking at doing, but haven't released? I can think of one. One big one. And while I don't think it likely, following on the heels of PlanetStrike and Codex: Space Wolves, it'd be perfectly-timed.

Could this be the year of the Thunderhawk, and we don't know it yet? I doubt it. But if the Valkyrie sells like those Baneblades and their derivatives, what would you do if you were at the helm of GW?

That's actually a very good point. Think about this: Planetstrike supposedly deals with Flyers in a regular game of 40K, not an Apocalypse game. At that point, however, there will only be one plastic flyer produced by GW, the Valkyrie. Wouldn't it make sense for GW to make a couple more flyers in plastic? I would guess the Thunderbolt (you have to give the Space Marines something), a Fighta-Bomma (they seem to be very high on Orks right now), one or two more xenos flyers (Harridan? Doubtful. I would guess Eldar, Chaos, or Tau), and then possibly the Thunderhawk, if they have it fitting on sprues and whatnot.

The Thunderbolt isn't a Space Marine flyer, though. It is an Imperial Navy flyer, along with the Lightning and the Marauder. The Thunderhawk and its variants are the only flyers the Space Marines have, unless you count Land Speeders for some reason. I guess you could issue the Thunderbolt to give the marines something to play with, but no more so than the Baneblade.

I think at this point we can be fairly sure that the mystery release is NOT Tyranids or Tau, although heaven knows they could use it..

I'd like to see Necron flyers, especially if they looked like the flyers from Stargate...or an H-K terminator type thing.

Hey, maybe they'll release a decent Chaos Codex for those of us who play Legions and not some half assed slopfest of a book...

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Yeah, right...

Codex inquisition i think for at least three reasons.
    1. Why would they release 1 model for the SW if they were about to release the codex. it makes little to no sense and isn't typical GW practice.
    2. JJ said that they wouldn't be making more armies because of time and money constraints, i.e. they have reached a critical mass of armies but they have just released demons seperatly, it would seem more logical to me to condense the different branches of the Inquisition into one codex, to see an example of what it would be like look at the new chaos codex.
    3. Gw had a mental couple of years when they were a lot more open about their future releases but have now shut up shop. So we have all got used to having a fair idea of what is coming several months in advance but now we only have guess work. Dark Eldar and SW have been rumoured for so long now that I expect anything but them to come out.

On a personal note I want Necrons just because at the moment I have 13000pts worth of tin cans and a codex that compared to the others seems half finished, content and units wise. Oh and I find that they are still competitive but that doesn't appear to affect GW decision making.

    Ahhhh thank you!

after reading your collective rants and ading my own oppinion
    here are my findings.
the codexes/armies in most despret need of renual in order of priorady are.

Dark Eldar, ther codex is extremely out of date and ther modle range needs an update as well.
Necrons , while ther codex is still competitive ther modles neen more variety , nuw units and armor.
Spacewolves , they need evrything , ther codex is way unbalanced compared to the curent SM codex and while ther plastic minies are ok , a better upgrade kits , new wolfguards and longfangs are needed.

nice to have but not yet critical
Chaos legions , chaos players realy want ther fluff back and i agree.
Deamonhunters , overprice gloryboys that are broken agance ther dedicated demonic adveseries.
Tau empier , while ther codex is reletively resent , the once supreem army is now bolter/shota fodder , they need a bit of rebalencing.

My local manager very indirectly said that space hulk will be coming out for Christmas, god he loved being so fuzzy.

I wasn't able to work out any real details from him, other then its going to be a war of the rings summer campaign this year, but that's kind of obvious. Space hulk will probably be a stand alone game, so it will come in a set like black reach. I think that idea is that any one who has 40k stuff can start playing space hulk. Any one who gets into 40k through space hulk can get a few more men and start playing proper 40k.

The rules will probably be similar in structure to 40k to make it easier for players to pick up both. I believe it is going to be out later October early November, ready for the Christmas rush when it will be the most profitable for GW

For two years, the rumor has been, "Space Wolves by Xmas!" I'll believe it when I see it. I don't see GW adding a new army anytime soon. I could see Grey Knights and Sisters each getting their own codex and the Inquistion Codexes being eliminated though.
