40K RUMOR: Dark Eldar In The Can

REAL WORLD: Bolters are Real!
And so, I think bringing back Spacehulk would fall into the "we have too much to do right now and can't start something new" category.
I, too, believe their time and resources would be much better spent on other projects, like Dark Eldar and expansions (ie, Planetstrike and that 40K-equivalent to Mighty Empires).
As for the game boards, they would be handled by a completely different department so I would have thought Space Hulk very likely... i guess we shall just have to wait and see :)
Although space hulk would be VERY nice, I don't see it as a sudden release as the rumors haven't really been talking about it in any detail.
And if they did do it, I would want them to support it better than the second release of space hulk, as it was nowhere the fun of the first with its multiple expansions.
My vote is for the battle missions book, with some releases tied to that. Like objectives or terrain.
Most of the rumors I've been seeing put Space Wolves sometime around December now. If that holds true, then hopefully the "40K related release" is another codex (though I am doubtful). Around the beginning of the year people "in the know" were claiming 4 codexes, then it changed to 3 codexes and Planetstrike. I think it would be pretty sad if GW could only manage 2 codexes this year. It's not like they've been pumping out a lot of Fantasy or LoTR. If this trend continues, then I hate to say it but I think they need to drop the LoTR game. I don't see it sell well at any store I go to (including the Chicago Battle Bunker) and it only takes up valuable time for them to be making models for games that sell much better. Sorry to all the fans of the LoTR game, but let's just leave that to the people who do it best, the Tolkeins.
There is always a game going on when I enter th store and actually more people own a LotR army as a 2nd army besides 40k than they do WFB...*shrugs*
"All but confirmed" doesn't mean anything when it comes to GW rumor-mongering. Less than a year ago, Necrons were "all but confirmed" to be one of the next couple releases, and then everyone finds out that no one was even working on them. Dark Eldar have been one to two codexes away for about three years, and the stompa rumor that accompanied the Apocalypse release was set back quite a bit. I don't know where bigred gets his info from, but it very well could be that his source didn't want to say Space Puppies because there may be some uncertainty about their current release window, and if they are pushed back something may be pushed up. You should be nicer to people when you're talking about things you don't know for sure are happening.
Oh. Oh wait. No we didn't. As you say "Learn2rumour," or rather, don't put stock in rumours until there's something concrete.
And no, a single goddamn collector model is not something concrete.
PS heard that the Sega Saturn version of the game was rather good, wish they re-released it too for the DS with internet multiplayer.
Both armies have only a few more models that need to be released and to take up a whole slot for one seems a waste. Tieing those two second waves in with Planetstrike (or around the same time) would generate much needed interest and also give a number of new shiny things to sell over the school holidays - for that's when i think we'll see Planetstrike.
Makes sense to me at least, but GW have never been ones to stick to sense ;-)
Some of these could just be collector's range models like the Space Wolf recenltly released, but I'm all for hoping a big splash release is due with Planetstrike. Plus, there's always the Thunderhawk rumor!
Rumours are all good and well, but wait for actual rumours! you can't just create them out of thin air!! :>
What's the old saying? If you don't know a rumour, make one up. :)
He most like comes from a bloated site like Warseer, which is pretty accurate since 'rumors' are mainly control leaked by GW insiders anyway.
But I know what you mean though.
Awww...I was just trying to be humorous. :(
Rumors, however, are out there about Blood Angels getting a new codex sometime next year. Some people even speculate that they may be the "mystery release."
They regularly treat my Tau like Ned Beatty in the movie 'Deliverence', almost as bad as Orks...or any army with any kind of assault capability, really. Yeah, a lot of 'piggy squealin' goin' on right now.
God, do all Tau players envy all the other guys and loathe their own armies like I do right now?
I have to admit im a bit skeptical about the space hulk as well.
Remember people, GW look at these forums... they may even post..heck GW may even have an entire "rumour" department dedicated to it lol and if they think its fun or beneficial to misdirect you, they will :)
To take it further (and yes I know its EXTREMELY unlikely but its an example) Dark Eldar could already be ready for release, do we know 100% that jervis wasnt scripted for saying that they are being delayed etc?
Dont trust rumour, dont trust GW, they spread them as well as any of us do if not better :)
Perhaps that's all the evidence we need for an =I= codex.
GW insiders / employees are part of the main foundation for some of the bloated warhammer sites, like Warseer, etc...
So it becomes a trick to sort out the 'true' rumors GW control leaks out among the internet community and what 'normal' people hear/make up.
Yea fine and all some people saying the wolves are "almost confirmed" and others saying that they are rumored....
Heck, even the guys in the shop are saying "unofficially" its Wolftime in August or September...
But until I have that book clasped in my hands.... its not here yet.
They have been hinting at our new codex for 3 years...... please let it be soon.
Tau? I cant see it yet in all honesty... their codex is pretty recent and their models are largely upto date so they will likely be back of the queue.
I don't collect DE or Necrons but I've looked through their Codices and they badly need improving. Alot of their stuff makes no sense anymore, or units are wrongly priced for what they do, and the players using them can exploit some rules. So I'm hoping it's one of these! Necrons more than DE because they could be far more interesting than they currently are!
The Drones are listed as a "weapons" option for the tank. This is similar to Asdrubael Vect of the DE, his vehicle isn't worth a KP because it's listed as "wargear"
Some people are so desperate to squeeze an advantage out of the unclear rules that they ruin the game for others.
DE have been neglected too long, so I wouldn't mind them getting love first. A single, blanket 'Forces of the Inquisition' book would be nice, too. Sell those Sisters and Grey Knights, eh?
My thought is that GW wants folks playing Orks or Marines. An Ork player has to purchas A LOT of boxes, and Space Marine players need 'one of everything', just to cover their bases. Hence the love from GW, IMO.
Anyway, mystery release sure as shit isn't going to be Russ's boys. I still think the end of the year is when we could expect them.
I'm not saying they are the most amazing unit but they are definitely usable
:)
I think Space hulk is likely (they have been working on it for ages as an aside project) but I envisaged it getting pre-released at games day similar to the Talisman release.
Goatboy would be a perfect 40k Kleenex spokesman. He could hand some out with each article.
I do find it odd that GW would just release a new space wolf model instead of waiting for the codex. Personally I despise the chapter fluff wise find them boring TT wise and hope the most they get codex wise is a new pdf. Well heres hoping its necrons/dark eldar as both races actually need love while space wolves should just be using the new space marine codex.
Tyranids 10 - 1 (New Broodlord model, Space Hulk Release, Hints of a Trygon)
Inquisition 20 -1 (Rumors of plastic grey knights and stormtroopers. References to Planet Strike and the next IA books having an Inquisition theme.)
Nothing 30-1 (Planetstrike, Space Hulk, recent Apocalypse models makes me think that two codices are all we are getting and that a third one is a smoke screen.)
Chaos Legions 50-1 (Daemon Prince [I doubt it wont hit this year]. I agree with a comment here that it will likely focus only on Khorne)
Tau 60-1 (There is enough model drops of late to imply that something may be coming in the near pipeline. Would be another quick win like the last codex, but I see these guys kicking off 2010.)
Dark Eldar 100-1 (I am sure they got stuff done for them, but I don't see this being the year.)
Necrons 250-1 (There is nothing to support them coming this year. I expect 2010 to be a xeno-centric year that includes my beloved machines.)
Blood Angels 1000-1 (Nope. If they are the third codex, I will raffle a copy of the codex off on my blog.)
"If there's ever 1000 to 1 odds, you take it. Doesn't matter what it is, you take it."
It's like X-files.
Mulder: "I'm sure something happened!"
Sculley: "But we have no proof at all."
Mulder: "That makes me even surer!"
Here's what little I know (or think I know):
It's not Nids, Necrons, or Dark Eldar, according to Harry, whom from my experience has never said something that wasn't true.
That being said, here are my thoughts on this mystery release.
Space Wolves this year I think is a foregone conclusion. It's been in the hopper for quite a while now, and that model generated enough buzz, I think they had to release it, though I too wonder why they didn't just wait til the codex release.
Dark Eldar? Desperately needed, but not close enough from the buzz I've heard.
Necrons? I have about 1500 points of them and never bothered. Seriously. A little life shot into their codex might make the army a bit more fun. I also think that, given how they've been fixing the other dex units, we might see Flayed Ones, Wraiths, Pariahs, and the like get improved a bit. But, again, there's little to no confirmed rumors (past the point that the C'tan will move to Apoc) of anything looming on the horizon.
A Codex: Inquisition is still years down the pipe. There's a lot that would have to be changed/fixed in separated codecies, let alone a big huge honking "all ordo" version. I'd love to see it, and I'd love to see Grey Knights good against Daemons and otherwised a balanced force, but I think that's year(s) away still.
Nobody's said anything about the possibility of AdMech, and I'm not saying I've heard something, but if it's Imperium-related.... Something to think about.
Maybe this would be some revolutionary idea? Like undoing something they'd done in the past? Maybe breaking the Sisters out and not making them strictly Ordo Hereticus affiliated? A whole, separate SOB list? Again, supposition.
We're getting Guard. We're likely getting PlanetStrike. We're likely getting Wolves. That sounds like a full plate. I'd be willing to bet that this "mystery 40k release" is either the Wolves (and the rumors separating them were bad) or something general, like another Apoc book, the Mission Book we've heard rumblings about, or something of that nature.
I agree that DA and BA need to get fixed, too, mind you, but I think that's going to come later, around the same time we see the Chaos Legios dealt with. Tau need a thorough FAQ, I think, and maybe some new models, but that's it.
The only other thing I might consider, I hesitate to even bring up, because fanboy frenzy will ensue. But it says "40k-related release." Doesn't necessarily mean a book. Could also mean another huge plastic kit. Which leads me to the question: What other big 40k superheavies have we heard they were looking at doing, but haven't released? I can think of one. One big one. And while I don't think it likely, following on the heels of PlanetStrike and Codex: Space Wolves, it'd be perfectly-timed.
Could this be the year of the Thunderhawk, and we don't know it yet? I doubt it. But if the Valkyrie sells like those Baneblades and their derivatives, what would you do if you were at the helm of GW?
I think at this point we can be fairly sure that the mystery release is NOT Tyranids or Tau, although heaven knows they could use it..
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Yeah, right...
1. Why would they release 1 model for the SW if they were about to release the codex. it makes little to no sense and isn't typical GW practice.
2. JJ said that they wouldn't be making more armies because of time and money constraints, i.e. they have reached a critical mass of armies but they have just released demons seperatly, it would seem more logical to me to condense the different branches of the Inquisition into one codex, to see an example of what it would be like look at the new chaos codex.
3. Gw had a mental couple of years when they were a lot more open about their future releases but have now shut up shop. So we have all got used to having a fair idea of what is coming several months in advance but now we only have guess work. Dark Eldar and SW have been rumoured for so long now that I expect anything but them to come out.
On a personal note I want Necrons just because at the moment I have 13000pts worth of tin cans and a codex that compared to the others seems half finished, content and units wise. Oh and I find that they are still competitive but that doesn't appear to affect GW decision making.
Ahhhh thank you!
here are my findings.
the codexes/armies in most despret need of renual in order of priorady are.
Dark Eldar, ther codex is extremely out of date and ther modle range needs an update as well.
Necrons , while ther codex is still competitive ther modles neen more variety , nuw units and armor.
Spacewolves , they need evrything , ther codex is way unbalanced compared to the curent SM codex and while ther plastic minies are ok , a better upgrade kits , new wolfguards and longfangs are needed.
nice to have but not yet critical
Chaos legions , chaos players realy want ther fluff back and i agree.
Deamonhunters , overprice gloryboys that are broken agance ther dedicated demonic adveseries.
Tau empier , while ther codex is reletively resent , the once supreem army is now bolter/shota fodder , they need a bit of rebalencing.
I wasn't able to work out any real details from him, other then its going to be a war of the rings summer campaign this year, but that's kind of obvious. Space hulk will probably be a stand alone game, so it will come in a set like black reach. I think that idea is that any one who has 40k stuff can start playing space hulk. Any one who gets into 40k through space hulk can get a few more men and start playing proper 40k.
The rules will probably be similar in structure to 40k to make it easier for players to pick up both. I believe it is going to be out later October early November, ready for the Christmas rush when it will be the most profitable for GW
