I did find a post from Schaffer (sp?) of GW on Dakka Dakka stating that deployment edge was supposed to be the long edge and that he had erred.

Re: 40K NEWS: Ard Boyz Prelims and Missions

Let's see... a painting-optional tournament suddenly announced in conjunction with free shipping for June on the GW website = Sales Spike!!!

GW isn't running 'Ard Boyz because they are interested in tournaments. They're running it because they know that the competitive players will run out and buy minis in preparation for it. Like I did just now for $100.00 worth of GW/FW stuff. It's 2500 pts. because most players don't have armies that big. Ergo, more sales.

Face it, they're hurting and need the money. So they have someone type up 3 pages of rules over lunch, offer some prize support in the form of website vouchers, and let the retailers do all the hard work for them at the last minute. They're not interested in doing it "right" with Adepticon-level support because that would introduce additional costs into what's essentially an easy ploy to shore up the quarter's numbers. We can complain all we want, but it won't change GW's priorities in this regard, which have been consistent for years. So just accept it and have what fun you can.

Re: 40K NEWS: Ard Boyz Prelims and Missions

For deployment (unless 'Ard Boyz deployment rules are different than the normal rulebook ones, I didn't check) you always choose a long table edge and base your deployment zone off of that edge. I think that would be the "deployment edge" you're talking about here.

Re: 40K NEWS: Ard Boyz Prelims and Missions

It is usual for you to use three sides of the table for fallback? Thanks! I just was reading those rules but could not quite get it straight. I will go and take a second look. If you have an authoritative page number, that'd be great! Sorry for the bother! :)

Re: 40K NEWS: Ard Boyz Prelims and Missions

Any unit is a seperate kill point. A unit is anything that can move away from something else (except retinues). So each combat squad is a kill point.

Re: 40K NEWS: Ard Boyz Prelims and Missions

Help on Kill Points! So when the Space Marines split their 10 man squads, is each 1 kill point now? Or if the Heavy Weapons are peeled off from an IG squad is it a separate kill point or do both need to die? I think the Ravenwing have a similar thing going. Sorry, but this is the area that confuses me the most! Thanks in advance!

Re: 40K NEWS: Ard Boyz Prelims and Missions

I am confused by the who 'Ard Boyz thing. GW has always said they arent interested in the tournament scene and that the game isnt designed for it. They also dont answer rule questions "officaly" and put out timely FAQs for the same reasons.

Then they come out with this. 2500 point "hard core" tournment.

I really see the whole tournament scene shiffting towards indys. Less game days and GTs every year, more large indy tournements

Take a look at the Adepticon FAQ, that gives a good idea of the shape the rules are in.

I still see people against it because it "isnt offical" What they refuse to accept is, there will never be an "offical" answer to those rule questions..

Its got to be money. No shops in MS are listed and the big ones in TN arent either

Re: 40K NEWS: Ard Boyz Prelims and Missions

so its now X points per FOC chart?

say is a hive tyrant with guards 5 or 10 KP in that missions? I've contacted half the Michigan stores listed, and one is closing, and most of the others are opting to do the Magic pre-release that weekend because it's a bigger money maker.

Very disappointed in this event planning so far. Hopefully next year will be better luck. As it stands I don't know that I'll get a chance to play this year.

Re: 40K NEWS: Ard Boyz Prelims and Missions

Forget the kill point system in the main rule book for the second mission.

The kill points in the mission replace the original rules. So dedicated transports aren't an 'extra' kill point, but rather just 1 kill point as before.

They updated the KPs for heavies, etc and HQ, and included the rest in the list to avoid confusion.

Re: 40K NEWS: Ard Boyz Prelims and Missions

So that those like a dedicated Land Raider Transport for Terminators or Raider for Dark Eldar Wyches which are considered Elites don't garner extra points.
