Very scary.

Re: 40K NEWS: Games Workshop Planetstrike Video

Wait - do you think that out of all the 0-1 choices, you can only take 1? This isn't the case. IE: You can only take 1 Flyrant, but if you take a Flyrant you can still take a few Biovores.

Re: 40K NEWS: Games Workshop Planetstrike Video

Ah, but in Apocalypse, all the attacker's units can't Deep Strike, and the Defenders don't get Mounted weapons :P

Re: 40K NEWS: Games Workshop Planetstrike Video

Some GW exec is hoping that gamers will be thinking:
"Hmmm... now I want to buy 3 more elite units, 3 more fast attack units, 1 more hq unit, and 3 heavy support units for all of my armies..."

All kidding aside, I'm always happy for new optional rules. I predict some of the Planetstrike games will be epic and awesome, and some will be just silly.

Let's see, as the attacker, you could field 3 Warbosses & 90 Nobz... or 18 Landspeeders... or 18 Warwalkers... How about 6-9 landraider variants as the defender?

When opponents agree on a scenario and build army lists around a shared concept, now that can be beautiful, so weird rules to support that could be great.

Re: 40K NEWS: Games Workshop Planetstrike Video

Exactly. All it requires is a little bit of thought and you can make plenty of scenarioes where the DE are being attacked which are fine in both a rules and fluff sense.

Re: 40K NEWS: Games Workshop Planetstrike Video

Kabals are engaged in constant power struggles. They're going to attack each other reasonably often. And it would be a very DE thing to lure your enemy to attack your rival. Any army could ambush a raiding party if they knew where and when they'd be coming out of the webway.

I'd be interested in doing a battle with my allied kroot mercenaries attacking a rival kabal. I think a battle set in Commorragh could be fun.

Re: 40K NEWS: Games Workshop Planetstrike Video

The Anphelion project is so good and creepy like that. its got a really sweet story underneath the action, and the mounting tension sets the whole thing off as the situation spins out of control.
just when you think the imps are ahead and about to counter attack in their Valkyries, then... no more Valkyries and no more hope.
It really shows how terrifying a threat the nids are...

im pretty sure it even says somewhere that the whole thing started with just a single specimen, and that it wasnt even a very advanced one.

Re: 40K NEWS: Games Workshop Planetstrike Video

Are those new gargoyles?

Re: 40K NEWS: Games Workshop Planetstrike Video

They could also have built a temporary dungeon for prisoners and be busy torturing, only to find a rescue force knocking down the door

Re: 40K NEWS: Games Workshop Planetstrike Video

How disappointing that the plastic Thunderhawk is still a Unicorn for now. Maybe we'll see a wave two release for it? Now that's a model with sales potential. Between the massive SM (Imperial), and Chaos playerbase alone, they'd make a killing.

However, Planetstrike does look awesome, and I'm glad there's some new terrain coming out. Customizable barricades will be the perfect addition to my battlefields for pretty much every game, and that Landing Pad looks too cool to not use for an objective or special rule once in a while. Maybe whoever holds it will get re-enforcement, or will get to command an air-strike for the turn... So many possibilities, so little game-time.

I wish they would compile a book of ready-made scenarios, too. If they'd make it a "kit" box, with book and terrain pieces, they could even map out the battlefields using provided special terrain, and work all sorts of coolness into it. That way, we gamers with less time than the most awesome BoLS crew could just pick up a book and get right into a cool canon campaign game without months of preparation.

Re: 40K NEWS: Games Workshop Planetstrike Video

It takes Discipline to Ambush an Ambush...

Re: 40K NEWS: Games Workshop Planetstrike Video

AoBR Dread: Front + Back + 2 Feet + 2 Arms + 1 storm bolter/arm for the arm

Re: 40K NEWS: Games Workshop Planetstrike Video

If you keep going on like that you will give us whiney DE players a bad name

Re: 40K NEWS: Games Workshop Planetstrike Video

Must.... play... game.... of planetstrike... Were there some khornate troopers among them or something? I think I need to re-read it :oS

I stand by my original point that if DE wanted to play Khorne wanted to play drop pod marines... Aggressive fighters they may be, but they had to defend their fortress for that one.

Re: 40K NEWS: Games Workshop Planetstrike Video

It might be more obvious and fun to have DE be attackers, but there's no reason they couldn't even just be ambushed. As for the "Army A or B is so aggressive, they shouldn't be defending!"
Their preferences in fighting aside the very nature of war means you will not be fighting on your terms all the time. Even the bloodthirsty DE and Khorne would have no choice but to defend should they be faced with say, a unit of Termies suddenly teleporting onto their battleship bridge. Or a Dreadclaw/Droppod landing site that has been counter charged by some well hidden forces.
Just use some imagination and you can come up with any number of interesting scenarios.

Re: 40K NEWS: Games Workshop Planetstrike Video

Ya I've always thought of Anphelion as 'Jurassic Park in Space' XD

Re: 40K NEWS: Games Workshop Planetstrike Video

I should probably get that box and trade away the orks, rules, etc.
are the AoBR Dreads just two pieces you snap together?

Re: 40K NEWS: Games Workshop Planetstrike Video

I do like it from the fluff stand point, but at the same time i think I
would like a campaign book more...I was just giving some examples of
more aggressive armies but i see people's points...

Re: 40K NEWS: Games Workshop Planetstrike Video

Honestly? I don't care about that rule. Even if nothing in Planetstrike specifically says it gets thrown out, I'd favor throwing it out. It doesn't actually make sense for the Dark Eldar to not build encampments at some point, in some circumstances, and there is no such thing as going from point A to point D without going through points B and C. Maybe they got cut off and isolated? Maybe they had to set up a defense while they await another raiding party to come and cut a path through? Engine problems? A mutiny that forces them to stop for a little while?

Things would just get really boring really fast if you can't think outside of the box. It's more interesting to assume that the Dark Eldar can in fact go on the defensive if they need to. They've been backed into a corner and now need to actually face their pursuers. It could never happen, right?

As to the defenses they might use - What better place for them to hide while they ready themselves to get off world than a city or settlement they just raided?

There are so many possibilities for actually interesting set ups. Just think a little more outside the box than you're used to. When both players agree, there's no reason to ignore and outdated and meaningless rule when it opens up new opportunities.

Re: 40K NEWS: Games Workshop Planetstrike Video

Will,

Well said.. couldn't agree more...

Re: 40K NEWS: Games Workshop Planetstrike Video

Guard: Don't worry men, you have your trusty lasguns!
