40K RUMOR: Dark Eldar In The Can
Squats.
SQUATS!
SQUATS! SQUATS! SQUATS!
The White Dwarf mini for 2010 is SQUATS!
After a few winks and polite nods from senior staff, the SQUATS are coming back!!!
Time to reset the Squat clock... zero minutes and counting up again.
when i first looked at it i thought it was a cross between a dwarf and a tech priest. t was not untill i looked here that i even know it was a squat.
just when i was starting to like the metal models games workshop was making they release the space pup joker and then the squat.
http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/common/xLarge...
I hope it is them rather than a squat, but still I would rather have a model I could use in my army.
I don't think they have made a model as good as the first one they did, the space marine veteran.
So I met Dan Cockersell and he confirmed that the Lord of Change will be on sale around Christmas for about £130.
I have seen it's rules and it is 999points!! It has cool abilities and is the first proper chaos unit with a psychic defence (it reflects all hostile psychic powers and daemonic gifts back at the attacker on a 4+) it has some other nice abilities too but it remains to be seen whether it's truely worth 1,000 pts!
There is to be a further Imperial Armour Apocalypse Book with even more chaos warmachines, formations, daemons as well as Tau and more Imperial stuff too.
Hopefully this is gonna be out around Christmas time too - so keep your fingers crossed! I saw the Commander Farsight Model again too - so i guess he might be in the pipeline to be released.
I had a long chat with a few of the writers and designers at different stages of the day about Heresy related stuff and it really seemed that there is a growing movement that suggested to me that in the coming years (and I do mean years) there will be more energy to be put into all things 30k - i guess this is quite obvious to most people reading this, but i thought it was worth mentioning as all the people I asked about it today seemed to be agreeing more than i'd expected with my comments.
Other things I saw up there included a beautiful Space Wolf Fortress Diorama which had a tonne of Tyranids pouring into the gates of a huge fortress complete with planet defence laser on top - I 'm sure there were some new minis hidden amongst the carnage so check out the pictures when one of the billion people with a camera post them up in the next few days!
Forgeworld's team said that the next big round of minis is predictably focused on the Orks - i saw some really nice concept drawings for cyborks and even more frighteningly hard nutter-Warbosses.
One of the most striking things about this year was how little there was on view in terms of previews for next year - it's fair to say that GW have definitely closed their doors on sites like warseer and Bols breaking the news all their new projects... shame really as it left me feeling slightly unsatisfied - in previous years I'm sure we'd have seen more tyranid stuff being previewed.
ok rant over - over all it was quite exciting -and i bet another Italian won Golden Daemon
I think it's fair to say there is still a healthy amount of hype surrounding everything they've got on the stove right now, that they're keeping the wrapping on longer probably helps build more hype. All the wild rumors racing around get people fired up.
IT was amazing, the explosions with the lil bodies flying everywhere, i saw conversions but no new models :(
Oh, wait, nothing's being ripped to shreds. GW should know by now that Nids look best when shredding tanks!
And that Ultramarines movie sounds cool, although I'll wait until seeing it to make any judgements.
...
Uh oh. Carnifexes are now re-tasked to anything but shredding tanks?

See what I mean? If anyone can get hold of Will Hayes and ask, that'd be dynamite!
That Tyranid codex cover art is awful!
I hope that's not the final piece, 'cuz that cover makes the terrible IG codex cover look good by comparison.
ouch.
on the other hand it might grow on us, just like so many things GW which you ahve to look at for somet ime before you can like it.
Think about boycott GW-Products, they should produce more Codex for the other races, which arent 5. edition ready, for me, i now buy very less products than the years before, so they just earn money by these foolish kids who buy everything what is new and honour the "great moneygod Games Workshop"!
So all say: I wont support the "great moneygod Games Workshop"!
:)
Try Nidzilla vs. full mech armies or lash + 9 oblits, and see for yourself how "more than competitive" they are. Many things need to be completely re-done - examples include fleetless broodlord, biovores, spore mine clusters giving away free kill points, thornback and symbiote rippers upgrades, the list goes on...
Carni’s open up MEQ like a cheap aluminum soup can, I have seen the NidZilla army that won WWW in action and it’s not pretty. And the lash combo is decent, but those 9 oblits are your only heavies, and if you blow your timing or have a round of bad rolls then you’re boned. As for the units you name, so not every unit is perfect in every situation, what’s your point? They are all good in their own way, and have uses in certain situations.
I think it's pretty disingenous to question what he's saying when it's pretty widely accepted that the armies I've mentioned above are in the most dire need of a fresh codex, and that Tyranids are still easily capable of doing very well at competitive events where (other than the Dark Eldar in certain builds) the other armies can hardly show their face.
real aliens/bugs just strike better than sadistic space elves (lolz) or undead space robots.
haven't you guys realized that GW does the dexes first who make more money and not those who need it from a gameplay POV?
if they would care gameplay/balance first they would scrap t he whole concept of printed codex/armybooks and make living documents, updated once a month. to give you something written they would do just background/artwork books (which can easily stand for devades if the quality is right.)
I think an Eisenhorn movie would be fantastic, the idea of an Inquisitior opens up for many avenues for fluff and storytelling and plot. Space marines just opens up avenues for lots of fighting, which is okay, but you need plot to go with it.
But I hold my breath to see how this will turn out.
in other words ultramarine players are going to wank until their dicks look like peperamis
But I suppose they may just leave most of the 'help' out.
Felix specifically asked people to not to reproduce his photos (http://www.ifelix.net/gamingblog/?p=1547). Why have you done so?
Bell of Somebody Else's Hard Work, more like.
on a different note felix has some cherry pics of what look like new plastic Tau. thanks for the tip on his site
Look at the Elysian buggy. It's a cropped image from here: http://www.ifelix.net/gamingblog/?cat=337&paged=3
I find Heresy Online's reply to be way out of line. Though copyright laws have not caught up to the web, and the legality of nicking someone's pictures is tricky, in a closed system like gamers, some netiquette is best employed.
I hope the BoLS folks do what's right and remove the photos or credit them the the OP's satisfaction.
it looks like its a photo of someone else's on their camera. just trying to give the benefit of the of the doubt here, but perhaps they are both from a third source?
whole thing is kinda odd...
Elysian Buggy - Cropped from Felixs
Chaos Reaver - Felixs upside down one rotated and Cropped
Lord of Change - Cropped from Felixs
Having said that, this certainly isn't the first time BOLS has done this... I've seen pictures posted on warseer then a few hours later on here crediting them to BOLS
An. Hour. And. A. Half.
Ooooh boy....
http://www.warseer.com/forums/attachment.php?at...
Movie wise that's a mistake. They should have had a 'normal' film with elements of 40k gradually mixed in. Making a movie for fans often results in sub standard quality and bafflement for outsiders. So going full frontal with marines is not I feel the best option!
But making conjecture that it is a Bad idea when you HAVE no idea is just plain silly and wrong there is no telling what they will do so lets at least allow GW to screw up before we pounce on them like jackals.
Marines are THE PERFECT option and as Marines make up of 50% of GW sales that is COMPLETELY the way to go for marketing and sales. They are the ICONS of the game and Ultras (as dull as they may seem to must , me included) are the ICON of Space Marine Chapters
Plus Space marines don't sell half they sell a third of all workshop products, I agree this is a lot but that should not and cannot be a driving force for a movie to sell to an open market. As it is it's being sold to geeks by geeks and so therefore will make some money but not a lot. Games workshop won't make a profit and will unfortunately be too scared to dip its toe again.
But it's hard to deny that a Human, IG perspective would be a much more natural way to go, one that would likely reach a broader audience. I guess it depends who this movies is made for, but I'd guess it is for the fanboys.
I'm fairly excited about it all. They have a wealth of creative talent available, as well as a wealth of...well, wealth. And I think they know better than to simply have super-rambo stomping through a vacuous 'level-progressing' storyline. Then again, that kinda thing worked for 300...
Why not do a movie about the Horus Heresey instead? Tie it in with the books...
TELL US WHAT YOU KNOW!!!
Bascially, it could have a 5 to 10 minute opening explaining the Heresy, then cut forwards to a post-heresy time when Guilliman is still alive. That is als close to the Heresy as it can get, in my opinion based on these facts.
The more logical decision for the movie is to give a 5 minute briefing about the 40k universe with the main character talking, then the actual movie is about the Tyranid swarm Kraken (I think it is that one) threatening to take over the "holy" Imperium until the "legenary" Ultramarines stop the entire fleet. That is my guess for the plot. It could be better than that, but with a limitation of 70 minutes, the movie cannot have a much better story.
Toy Story.
And that plot was awesome.
On a related note, the reason why it's not IG or inquisition based seems simple: Marines are easier to animate. No cloth, no faces, some movable parts. Not that it's the right thing to do but still.
The difference is that when you compare the plot of the Horus Heresy to the plot of Toy Story, well, there is no comparison. I am sure this movie will have a good plot. But seriously, the plot of Toy Story was damn good but it was not at the same complexity level as the Horus Heresy.
A 70 minute animated movie could be great if it was the Horus Heresy, but it would be way too confusing if they did it justice for an opening scene for most American viewers. The movie is called Ultramarines, and therefor it will not be about the Horus Heresy except for an opening scene.
It is on Youtube.com in 4 Parts watch it when you want a Laugh
As for the 40k movie - a never-heard production company and a short runtime spells big trouble. They should've just given the backstory to a real director to do whatever he likes. The Horus - Emperor storyline comes to mind, that would make a great movie if done correctly. 2,5 hours runtime, Peter Jackson producing, Weta Workshop CGI stuff, Neill Blomcamp or McG directing.
But now - as others said before, it's going to be just porn for marine players. "Full-frontal marines" was a pretty good description.
Come on - you really can't expect much of that movie. Think about all the other movies-from-games or movies-from-roleplaying-games, and how godawful they were. D&D movies, every single movie from a game and so on.
since the 40k version will actually be cgi, make the expenses go up a little more. demanding a full on theatre sci-fi 40k movie is absolutely ridiculous, way to costly for GW and maybe not the right thing for a wider audience. considering the whole 40k fluff with it's themes of fascism, ultraviolence and extremely high morbidity.
Yeah, your comment was totally invalidated with that last add on director.
I'm excited. For the first foray into 40k CGI film, Ultramarines were a no-brainer. If the movie sells well, that can open the door to the many other facets of 40k seeing life on your TV. If the animation quality can reach the standards of pre-game cutscenes like Warhammer: Mark of Chaos or Dawn of War, I'll be happy. If there's anything to be said about GW, they're very careful about the visual side of their product, I can't imagine they'd bring anyone aboard who isn't capable of bringing it to life properly.
Give the company a chance, the only thing to discuss about will be the story.
Aye, the story...
A 70 min. movie would cost around $7,000,000 for CGI at the same level of the WARHAMMER: MARK OF CHAOS trailer, which cost about $500,000 per five minutes.
Shame they didn't get digic pictures to do the movie, as their work on the Mark of Chaos trailer was fantastic.
We would have gotten something at least as good as this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qs79s8sNWlY
Instead we got "The studio who brought you the worst CGI ever for the LEGO BIONICLE series.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3CIJ_MjIOHM
I sense another "Bloodquest" a brewing.
I suspect that this is going to be an absolute piece of garbage, especially since it is going straight to DVD which means that it is going to be of such low quality that they already know it won't compete in the general cinema market.
Also agree wholeheartedly with the Mark of Chaos comment.
Bionicle ..... shesh not what 40K deserves by far.
Dave
Try this for a better example of their work: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itzJzFroY-A&feat... and bear in mind that that movie came out around 6 years ago- they've likely got a lot better since then.
"I wish there was something to tear apart..." <sigh>
The listless, post-eat-everything period of the invasion. Not really the exciting period.
I just wish they had a costume contest like in America
Grrrrrr
Dave
1) Why is the Carnifex a giant Crab of DOOM!!!
2) Why does it appear to be slightly hairy?
Aside from that, TYRANIDS!!!!
But shame on Workshop for being so tightlipped, its like trying to ask a mate about his night out and them refusing to say anything, so what do you do? You go ask another mate (Ahem#Warmachine#cough) and having a better conversation. Eventually the first friend is left alone and friendless. Silly workshop!
Always keeping you on your toes.
could they have picked a more BORING chapter for the 40k movie?
Good lord.
That one just got to a certain point and died.
Think about it... wouldn't you find the idea of Dark eldar and Nids 'doin their thang' to be just better presented and easier to digest in sixteen colours?
Cut in on the main character as a non-marine getting his family killed by a tyrant.
Main character gets saved by Ultramarines and tyrant gets away.
Montage of the main character getting trained/indoctrinated/modified.
Main character on a scout mission scene.
Main character getting his power armor.
Final battle on main character's home planet where tyrant is deposed and main character avenged through bolter and chainsword.
I think that might be cool.

Does it give hope for any decent 40k film?
(I want some freakin steel legion models)
that tyranid codex looks AWESOME
and I hope that movie isn't bad.....(it can be a little dumb but I hope not crappy...)
Also nice to see the new FW Ork stuff painted - particulary the Mega-Dread!
http://www.ifelix.net/gd2009/GamesDay_2009/My_A...
enjoy. (I hope I didn't just execute that guys site)
As for bad choice of UM in the movie UGGGH. Wouldn't a cool SW movie be better since Dex was just released?WTF? I think the Mark of Chaos, and Warhammer online moves are the BOMB! if the New movie is not up to that on par then screw dat! I would consider it failed if they can't make them as good as these.

Do the right thing. Take off Felix's pictures provide links. He did the work, let him get the traffic.
-The body armor/helmet in the movie is near identical to IG carapace armor.
-In both, over-the-top propaganda plays a role.
-AracNIDS......TyraNIDS..*That one's a bit of a reach...*
The list goes on, but I have to get back to work....But ya see where I'm comming from.
New Tallarn Greens
Plastic Daemon Prince
Plastic Seekers of Slaanesh"
So there are pics of the tallarn greens, and we've all been seeing the pics of the plastic daemon prince for months now, but has anyone seen any pics of the Plastic Seekers of Slaanesh? Is there any release date yet for the next wave of Daemons?
Any info would be appreciated!
