This Ultramarines movie better be awesome after that BS they pulled on the people making the Damnatus movie.
  • Catzilla · 2 months ago
Damnatus is still a very good movie, especially if you consider it is all fan based!

    Sucks for dark eldar HA!

Know what's funny? There was a 40k-Grombrindal/White Dwarf model... which means he's technically a squat XD
  • KaCee Bunn-Smith · 2 months ago
How has no one said it???

    Squats.

    SQUATS!

    SQUATS! SQUATS! SQUATS!

The White Dwarf mini for 2010 is SQUATS!

After a few winks and polite nods from senior staff, the SQUATS are coming back!!!
  • Tom Harris · 2 months ago
    Thanks, I needed that. :)

Time to reset the Squat clock... zero minutes and counting up again.
  • ac4155 · 2 months ago
i dont like the new white dwarf mini, it just does not seem right or fit in with the rest of 40k or warhammer lines.

when i first looked at it i thought it was a cross between a dwarf and a tech priest. t was not untill i looked here that i even know it was a squat.

just when i was starting to like the metal models games workshop was making they release the space pup joker and then the squat.

    http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/common/xLarge...
  • Sathos · 2 months ago
Its not a squat...its grombrindal, he's not even supposed to be a serious 40k miniature, its a limited ed model for white dwarf subs.
  • ac4155 · 2 months ago
the more I look at it the more it seems like grombrindal and gabbo

I hope it is them rather than a squat, but still I would rather have a model I could use in my army.

I don't think they have made a model as good as the first one they did, the space marine veteran.
  • Name · 2 months ago
no it isnt squats, in the seminar, the staff actually told us that is IS grombrindal in space!!!
  • Ahriman · 2 months ago
yeah that joker model is awful!!
  • BDub · 2 months ago
I think its the beard. What I loved about the very first Space Dwarves was the departure from the huge, braided and splayed fantasy type beards. I think they just did it on this mini so we all would recognize it for THE "White Dwarf". What I am more interestd in is the intention or message behind its release.
  • Ahriman · 2 months ago
Hi guys - ok I just got back from games day and I have some juicy morsels for you:

So I met Dan Cockersell and he confirmed that the Lord of Change will be on sale around Christmas for about £130.
I have seen it's rules and it is 999points!! It has cool abilities and is the first proper chaos unit with a psychic defence (it reflects all hostile psychic powers and daemonic gifts back at the attacker on a 4+) it has some other nice abilities too but it remains to be seen whether it's truely worth 1,000 pts!

There is to be a further Imperial Armour Apocalypse Book with even more chaos warmachines, formations, daemons as well as Tau and more Imperial stuff too.
Hopefully this is gonna be out around Christmas time too - so keep your fingers crossed! I saw the Commander Farsight Model again too - so i guess he might be in the pipeline to be released.
I had a long chat with a few of the writers and designers at different stages of the day about Heresy related stuff and it really seemed that there is a growing movement that suggested to me that in the coming years (and I do mean years) there will be more energy to be put into all things 30k - i guess this is quite obvious to most people reading this, but i thought it was worth mentioning as all the people I asked about it today seemed to be agreeing more than i'd expected with my comments.

Other things I saw up there included a beautiful Space Wolf Fortress Diorama which had a tonne of Tyranids pouring into the gates of a huge fortress complete with planet defence laser on top - I 'm sure there were some new minis hidden amongst the carnage so check out the pictures when one of the billion people with a camera post them up in the next few days!

Forgeworld's team said that the next big round of minis is predictably focused on the Orks - i saw some really nice concept drawings for cyborks and even more frighteningly hard nutter-Warbosses.

One of the most striking things about this year was how little there was on view in terms of previews for next year - it's fair to say that GW have definitely closed their doors on sites like warseer and Bols breaking the news all their new projects... shame really as it left me feeling slightly unsatisfied - in previous years I'm sure we'd have seen more tyranid stuff being previewed.

ok rant over - over all it was quite exciting -and i bet another Italian won Golden Daemon
  • Kirasu · 2 months ago
GW still doesnt seem to understand that hype = more sales.. Its like they think they're building a damn nuclear bomb and have to keep it secret
  • Son of Dorn · 2 months ago
    Yet here we are, speculating.

I think it's fair to say there is still a healthy amount of hype surrounding everything they've got on the stove right now, that they're keeping the wrapping on longer probably helps build more hype. All the wild rumors racing around get people fired up.

IT was amazing, the explosions with the lil bodies flying everywhere, i saw conversions but no new models :(

I can't quite put my finger on it, but there's something wrong with that cover art...
Oh, wait, nothing's being ripped to shreds. GW should know by now that Nids look best when shredding tanks!
And that Ultramarines movie sounds cool, although I'll wait until seeing it to make any judgements.
  • MightyOrang · 2 months ago
Looks like a big purple chicken. You're right ... needs a tank wreck.
  • wkz · 2 months ago
    ...
    ...
Uh oh. Carnifexes are now re-tasked to anything but shredding tanks?
  • MightyOrang · 2 months ago
Not sure... my guess is that they'll continue to be something that's adaptable ... Nidzilla or cheap Fex's ... but i am not a Nid player, so i can't really say.
  • sildani · 2 months ago
Sorry, but I need to shoot diwn the "eldar one-man Falcon". It's not. What it is, is a Scorpion super-heavy turret. What's different about this one is the normal "wing" in back had been cut away, and some new white.. stuff... put in its place.

  • sildani · 2 months ago

    ooof!
That Tyranid codex cover art is awful!
I hope that's not the final piece, 'cuz that cover makes the terrible IG codex cover look good by comparison.
    ouch.
  • xas · 2 months ago
as a nid palyer I'm thinking the same. this cover art looks just wrong. like I would imagine a 2nd edition (along the lines of the chaos dwarfs cover art we saw on bols some time ago) dex looking.

on the other hand it might grow on us, just like so many things GW which you ahve to look at for somet ime before you can like it.
  • Farsight · 2 months ago
What I think is funny is they produce an amazing covers for the Space Marines and Space Wolves, but a terrible ones for Imperial Guard, Tyranids.
  • Madjob · 2 months ago
If there's been anything in common with all the 5th Edition codexes, it's sub-par covers. Best one is probably Space Wolves, but it's not like it wasn't hard to do a huge step up from their last cover.
  • Edchopp · 2 months ago
    Its a conspiracy blatantly.

Why always the armies which are already 5. edition ready...

Think about boycott GW-Products, they should produce more Codex for the other races, which arent 5. edition ready, for me, i now buy very less products than the years before, so they just earn money by these foolish kids who buy everything what is new and honour the "great moneygod Games Workshop"!

So all say: I wont support the "great moneygod Games Workshop"!
    :)
  • Big J · 2 months ago
What army are you talking about? Tyranids aren't 5th edition at all. I'm not saying they aren't playable in 5th, but every army is PLAYABLE. I'd say nids need it just as bad as anyone (especially if you'd like to play a game without carnifexes). Especially when you consider that that DE and 'Crons which need it more, are being worked on. I'd say 'nids would be a faster and easier update.
  • andrewdrexler · 2 months ago
Nids just won the World Wide War event. It was a NidZilla army that is a tough customer any way you slice it. Nids are more than competitive in the current MEQ environment.
  • Skorsson · 2 months ago
Nidzilla sure is tough, but it is no longer that scary with MC's not being scoringg.
Try Nidzilla vs. full mech armies or lash + 9 oblits, and see for yourself how "more than competitive" they are. Many things need to be completely re-done - examples include fleetless broodlord, biovores, spore mine clusters giving away free kill points, thornback and symbiote rippers upgrades, the list goes on...
  • andrewdrexler · 2 months ago
Scoring does not matter so much when you can table an opponent’s army with impunity.

Carni’s open up MEQ like a cheap aluminum soup can, I have seen the NidZilla army that won WWW in action and it’s not pretty. And the lash combo is decent, but those 9 oblits are your only heavies, and if you blow your timing or have a round of bad rolls then you’re boned. As for the units you name, so not every unit is perfect in every situation, what’s your point? They are all good in their own way, and have uses in certain situations.
  • Legionary · 2 months ago
Tyranids may not be 5th Edition but as you know they are scarcely in urgent need of an update (they're 4th Edition) especially over the Inquisition, Necrons and Dark Eldar.

I think it's pretty disingenous to question what he's saying when it's pretty widely accepted that the armies I've mentioned above are in the most dire need of a fresh codex, and that Tyranids are still easily capable of doing very well at competitive events where (other than the Dark Eldar in certain builds) the other armies can hardly show their face.
  • xas · 2 months ago
but nids sell better and their style fits more people.

real aliens/bugs just strike better than sadistic space elves (lolz) or undead space robots.

haven't you guys realized that GW does the dexes first who make more money and not those who need it from a gameplay POV?

if they would care gameplay/balance first they would scrap t he whole concept of printed codex/armybooks and make living documents, updated once a month. to give you something written they would do just background/artwork books (which can easily stand for devades if the quality is right.)
  • Slackermagee · 2 months ago
Tyranids in January... interesting. Artwork looks terrible though. I know it's supposed to look dynamic but it seems so... unnatural (even for futuristic sci-fi alien killing machines).
  • Anonymous · 2 months ago
That Chaos Reaver looks like turd. Spikes and skulls and yet more 1980's hair metal. IT'S JUST NOT SCARY!!!
  • Catzilla · 2 months ago
I made some pictures of it myself. I really liked it and I think it looks very scary, but you can't argue about taste anyway.
  • Tom Harris · 2 months ago
Wow. I thought 80's hair metal was pretty scary, myself... but I'm with you. I like the Chaos Reaver, good and spiky and scary.
  • kamstew · 2 months ago
i think that out of all warhammer fluff they could have used they should have made an eisenhorn movie, 70 minutes is pretty short, and i hate ultra marines, but if they pull it off right and not just make it a porno flick for marine players than it should be good
  • Skragger · 2 months ago
Ar, I have a bad feeling it will just be bolter porn, but I'll reserve full judgement for when I actually see it.

I think an Eisenhorn movie would be fantastic, the idea of an Inquisitior opens up for many avenues for fluff and storytelling and plot. Space marines just opens up avenues for lots of fighting, which is okay, but you need plot to go with it.
  • Edchopp · 2 months ago
I second that as a story structure it is easier to see it from a normal human POV and the space marines should frankly be a small but extremely cool element of an overall story.
But I hold my breath to see how this will turn out.
  • Greg Summers · 2 months ago
i think its probobly going to be about macragge or some battle where the Ultramarines turned the time of the battle without help.

in other words ultramarine players are going to wank until their dicks look like peperamis
  • Anggul · 2 months ago
Without help? The Ultramarines had two massive Imperial Fleets helping them, the biggest ship had to fly into the middle of the Tyranid fleet and trigger its warp drives, dragging a massive chunk of the hive fleet into the warp, along with itself.

But I suppose they may just leave most of the 'help' out.
  • gilbert93dt · 2 months ago
    You stole my thoughts
  • JATL · 2 months ago
What needs to be done is a bunch of shorts, Animetrix/ batman gotham knight style, I think that is the only way to get the feel of the hole warhammer universe across. Small interesting bites insted of all at once.
  • gilbert93dt · 2 months ago
Your correct, that would be the best. A movie would be cool, but a bunch of shorter ones would by much better.
  • WaaaghTheDog · 2 months ago
imo they might be better off not trying Eisenhorn as their first movie as i don't think there would be enough base interest to explore such a good story. this "bolter porn" won't even be in theaters, i for one am content on waiting for a serious attempt at Eisenhorn if it can be done right and done in theaters

"Some images brought to the community by: Felix's Gaming Pages Blog."

Felix specifically asked people to not to reproduce his photos (http://www.ifelix.net/gamingblog/?p=1547). Why have you done so?
  • Heresy Online · 2 months ago
Because thats how this community works. You cannot possibly expect people to do that, I've tried myself before. It's best to watermark images or just accept that they'll be posted elsewhere.
  • curious · 2 months ago
"community" is an odd word for driving traffic to your advertising-supported blog with copyright infringement. That doesn't strike me as very community-minded at all.

Bell of Somebody Else's Hard Work, more like.
  • kevlarmonkey · 2 months ago
I agree it would be less than cool if it was taken from felix's page but I just looked at his image, and I don't think they are the same photo. the angles seem different and there is more information in the background of the bells photo than felix's. if they were going to just take it from him I'd imagine that they would keep at least some of the quality. I'm just saying there are a ton of people at games day, so it's more than possible that two people have similar images...

on a different note felix has some cherry pics of what look like new plastic Tau. thanks for the tip on his site
  • warpoet · 2 months ago
No, I think they ARE the same photos.

Look at the Elysian buggy. It's a cropped image from here: http://www.ifelix.net/gamingblog/?cat=337&paged=3

I find Heresy Online's reply to be way out of line. Though copyright laws have not caught up to the web, and the legality of nicking someone's pictures is tricky, in a closed system like gamers, some netiquette is best employed.

I hope the BoLS folks do what's right and remove the photos or credit them the the OP's satisfaction.
  • kevlarmonkey · 2 months ago
right! I had seen slightly different photo here http://www.ifelix.net/gamingblog/

  • TheRealChris · 2 months ago
    Elysians go halo stylyee :)

Movie wise that's a mistake. They should have had a 'normal' film with elements of 40k gradually mixed in. Making a movie for fans often results in sub standard quality and bafflement for outsiders. So going full frontal with marines is not I feel the best option!
  • rob0362 · 2 months ago
We have NO idea what that Movie is gonna be IF they have any idea they will make it a Stand alone movie that can be used to recruit players.

But making conjecture that it is a Bad idea when you HAVE no idea is just plain silly and wrong there is no telling what they will do so lets at least allow GW to screw up before we pounce on them like jackals.

Marines are THE PERFECT option and as Marines make up of 50% of GW sales that is COMPLETELY the way to go for marketing and sales. They are the ICONS of the game and Ultras (as dull as they may seem to must , me included) are the ICON of Space Marine Chapters
  • Edchopp · 2 months ago
Marines are not human they do not have human motivations, therefore it is extremely difficult for a layperson to understand their particular motivations. Therefore humanising a space marine becomes difficult without betraying the original lore. (Imagine a space marine falling in love and you'll have an element that will have fans weeping in the aisles/exploding with rage)

Plus Space marines don't sell half they sell a third of all workshop products, I agree this is a lot but that should not and cannot be a driving force for a movie to sell to an open market. As it is it's being sold to geeks by geeks and so therefore will make some money but not a lot. Games workshop won't make a profit and will unfortunately be too scared to dip its toe again.
  • VampireHarlequin · 2 months ago
I'm tempted to agree with Ad. However, The Horus Heresy proved that when Space Marines are the main characters you CAN create convincing stories and situations that are 'Human' enough to be dramatically satisfying in more than just a fan-boy kinda way.

But it's hard to deny that a Human, IG perspective would be a much more natural way to go, one that would likely reach a broader audience. I guess it depends who this movies is made for, but I'd guess it is for the fanboys.

I'm fairly excited about it all. They have a wealth of creative talent available, as well as a wealth of...well, wealth. And I think they know better than to simply have super-rambo stomping through a vacuous 'level-progressing' storyline. Then again, that kinda thing worked for 300...
  • Dantethegolden · 2 months ago
they may not BE humans, but man do they have parallels with the human race. The whole premise of the marines is an allegory for the "christian" crusades. burn the heretic, etc.
  • Sathos · 2 months ago
Okay...so you want a film from a Guardsman's perspective?...70mins long you say? ... thats 5 mins opener, 50mins in the belly of a troop carryer, 5min for planetfall and then 5mins of combat before dying horribly...then 5 mins of rolling credits showing you how many people got bored making the movie ;)

I for one am sick of sci-fi stories being crammed into mass appeal type movies, just look how it ruined transformers. want a war movie from the "human" perspective? go watch apocalypse now, full metal jacket, enemy at the gates, or any of the other countless war movies out there. don't get me wrong I love the Gaunts Ghost stories but a movie of them would just be a war film with las guns, and a couple of xenos. I say give me a full dose of the emperors finest, blowing the crap out of chaos, eldar, tau, or even orks. just not nids because a movie based on an idea that is essentially a copy of HR Giger's Aliens will just be another alien movie. make it super fantastic, that's why we like sci-fi anyways, right?
  • asymmetricalxeno · 2 months ago
Not gonna get my hopes up on the 40k film, but I hope its good. Not a fan of ultras, but if they are facing an interesting enemy (i.e. not orks or chaos legions) it might be interesting. That battle with the necrons pictured in 5th ed would be cool to see though, or dark eldar or some minor-race (but that wont happen).

Lets hope Ultramarines doesn't fall into the same hole that the last warhammer 40K movie fell into, that one about the Blood Angels... Blood Quest I think it was called.. (can someone confirm?)

Why not do a movie about the Horus Heresey instead? Tie it in with the books...
  • herosson · 2 months ago
How do you know its not based during the Heresey...............

    TELL US WHAT YOU KNOW!!!
  • gilbert93dt · 2 months ago
The title is the only thing we know. But from that knowledge combined with our vast knowledge about 40k fluff, we can make the simple conclusion that it is not about the heresy. We know that the Ultramarines played a very little part in the Heresy. The movie could be about Guilliman making Codex: Astartes and bringing the Imperium back together, but the movie is only 70 minutes.

Bascially, it could have a 5 to 10 minute opening explaining the Heresy, then cut forwards to a post-heresy time when Guilliman is still alive. That is als close to the Heresy as it can get, in my opinion based on these facts.

The more logical decision for the movie is to give a 5 minute briefing about the 40k universe with the main character talking, then the actual movie is about the Tyranid swarm Kraken (I think it is that one) threatening to take over the "holy" Imperium until the "legenary" Ultramarines stop the entire fleet. That is my guess for the plot. It could be better than that, but with a limitation of 70 minutes, the movie cannot have a much better story.
  • thetruemooseman · 2 months ago
You know what other animated movie is 70 minutes long?

    Toy Story.

    And that plot was awesome.

On a related note, the reason why it's not IG or inquisition based seems simple: Marines are easier to animate. No cloth, no faces, some movable parts. Not that it's the right thing to do but still.
  • gilbert93dt · 2 months ago
Damn, you have got me there. (no sarcasm)

The difference is that when you compare the plot of the Horus Heresy to the plot of Toy Story, well, there is no comparison. I am sure this movie will have a good plot. But seriously, the plot of Toy Story was damn good but it was not at the same complexity level as the Horus Heresy.

A 70 minute animated movie could be great if it was the Horus Heresy, but it would be way too confusing if they did it justice for an opening scene for most American viewers. The movie is called Ultramarines, and therefor it will not be about the Horus Heresy except for an opening scene.
  • TheRealChris · 2 months ago
Are you serious? Originally yes, it was great. That was when most of the details were left tot he imagination. Now the BL books have simple made it average. Great epic battles and the pale have been downscaled into skirmishes along the scale of the Korean war. Its a shame the authors didn't simple read a few WWII accounts and if not scale them up, at least use the same scale. hell the battle of Kursk comes across as more epic than the skirmishes described so far and the number of marines attributed to legions is laughable.
  • Skragger · 2 months ago
No faces, except for the sergeants, what horrible idea is that? lets not put hats on our leaders!
  • gilbert93dt · 2 months ago
I never understood that concept. Let's put helmets on our regular soldiers, but the most important people don't get helmets so the enemy snipers can see who they are about to finish.
  • mordiano · 2 months ago
What I learnet some 19 years ago was that theyd put small expensive powerfields (2+ inv. remember :D) where the helmets used to go. That wat the enemies would indeed be lured to fire at the single most protected area!!
  • gilbert93dt · 2 months ago
If that is true then perhaps that is the smartest idea I have ever heard.

    INQUISITOR That MOVIE SUCKED

It is on Youtube.com in 4 Parts watch it when you want a Laugh
  • DLLM · 2 months ago
Hope we get some new unit choices for Tyranids from the history books. Zoats would be nice. More diverse weapon options so those old plastic "ant-warriors" can be used without "counts as" (they've got boneswords).

As for the 40k movie - a never-heard production company and a short runtime spells big trouble. They should've just given the backstory to a real director to do whatever he likes. The Horus - Emperor storyline comes to mind, that would make a great movie if done correctly. 2,5 hours runtime, Peter Jackson producing, Weta Workshop CGI stuff, Neill Blomcamp or McG directing.

But now - as others said before, it's going to be just porn for marine players. "Full-frontal marines" was a pretty good description.
Come on - you really can't expect much of that movie. Think about all the other movies-from-games or movies-from-roleplaying-games, and how godawful they were. D&D movies, every single movie from a game and so on.

since it's going to be an animation movie, you should be aware of the fact, that those are insanely expensive to produce. if you ever watched some of the DC animated movies (superman:doomsday, green lantern, justice league final frontier), then you could have seen, that you can produce some real good flicks in 70 minutes. and even WB/DC as a big ass company have to adhere to a max of 70 mins.
since the 40k version will actually be cgi, make the expenses go up a little more. demanding a full on theatre sci-fi 40k movie is absolutely ridiculous, way to costly for GW and maybe not the right thing for a wider audience. considering the whole 40k fluff with it's themes of fascism, ultraviolence and extremely high morbidity.
  • NeilBrimelow · 2 months ago
"Peter Jackson producing, Weta Workshop CGI stuff, Neill Blomcamp or McG directing."

Yeah, your comment was totally invalidated with that last add on director.
  • Madjob · 2 months ago
You're assuming too much. This isn't a movie pitched to a hollywood studio, this is something GW is likely financing personally. It's definitely not going to be in any theaters, probably just a direct to DVD/Blu-ray release. Think along the lines of the recent excellent Marvel animated features - heavy on fan pleasing.

I'm excited. For the first foray into 40k CGI film, Ultramarines were a no-brainer. If the movie sells well, that can open the door to the many other facets of 40k seeing life on your TV. If the animation quality can reach the standards of pre-game cutscenes like Warhammer: Mark of Chaos or Dawn of War, I'll be happy. If there's anything to be said about GW, they're very careful about the visual side of their product, I can't imagine they'd bring anyone aboard who isn't capable of bringing it to life properly.

I see that Codex is the company that makes Bionicle movies...and that is about it...
  • nextjenn · 2 months ago
Wow... I was trying to avoid expecting this movie to be bad... but I've seen the first two bionicle movies and was quite underwhelmed by them. I'll still buy it the day it comes out and enjoy it for what it is, I just won't expect to be blown away.

At least the bionicle movies were looking good ;).
Give the company a chance, the only thing to discuss about will be the story.

70 min? That's really more like a short film. You can't release a 70 min film in the theaters, so that leaves the home video market.

A 70 min. movie would cost around $7,000,000 for CGI at the same level of the WARHAMMER: MARK OF CHAOS trailer, which cost about $500,000 per five minutes.

Shame they didn't get digic pictures to do the movie, as their work on the Mark of Chaos trailer was fantastic.

We would have gotten something at least as good as this:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qs79s8sNWlY

Instead we got "The studio who brought you the worst CGI ever for the LEGO BIONICLE series.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3CIJ_MjIOHM

I sense another "Bloodquest" a brewing.
  • daveisdvd · 2 months ago
Look I couldn't agree more, I followed Blood Quest for something like 3 years before it finally died.

I suspect that this is going to be an absolute piece of garbage, especially since it is going straight to DVD which means that it is going to be of such low quality that they already know it won't compete in the general cinema market.

Also agree wholeheartedly with the Mark of Chaos comment.

Bionicle ..... shesh not what 40K deserves by far.

About the link you gave about the Bionicle series, as far as I can tell, that doesn't actually include any scene from the movies, which were actually quite good quality, at least visually.

Try this for a better example of their work: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itzJzFroY-A&feat... and bear in mind that that movie came out around 6 years ago- they've likely got a lot better since then.

The problem with the Blood Angel movie was the company that was making it went bankrupt and do to copyrights, no one else could pick it up and run with it. Many a good movie meets this sad end. Movies have become all about making money and who cares for story. I hope that the Space marine movie does not meet this ending again.
  • Edchopp · 2 months ago
Actually the studio system has always been like this people don't make bad stories just to pump out crap as that always ends up costing money. Instead they pour money into names and effects and it is up to the Director as author of the film and the Editor to create Gold. E.g the Dark knight one of the most thought provoking and well acted movie of the decade and it made an absolute mint. People demand Quality and any studio that doesn't give usually goes bust very quickly, or never makes enough money to break into the big time.
  • daveisdvd · 2 months ago
Exactly so I know what we'll do... let's give the 40k moive the best chance by giving the rights to create it to the brilliant minds behind bionicle.... Hold up why stop there let's give it a lame budget and not bother trying to get it to cinemas, man this film is going to be a hit...

    Grrrrrr

when I was telling people on here and warseer about this movie nobody took me seriuosly, I was wondering whether the dvd was gonna be part of the mistery box or not, oh.....and 70 mins is actually quite normal for an animated movie like this, I've seen more complex story put into 45 min shorts than has been released in hollywood for the last decade, have faith :)
  • jahred · 2 months ago
After seeing the massive Tyranid cover on display on Games-Day, two thoughts crossed my mind:

    1) Why is the Carnifex a giant Crab of DOOM!!!

    2) Why does it appear to be slightly hairy?

    Aside from that, TYRANIDS!!!!
  • Edchopp · 2 months ago
The new nid cover is interesting there has been an awful lot of talk about ripping stuff and all that, but what is interesting to me in the composition of the cover is its feeling of speed and the absolute covering of the page in tyranid things with no ground visible leading me to think that there will be a concentration on the horde aspect of nids again swinging the pendulum of 40k towards horde armies. which is no bad thing the less MEQ armies I see the better the 3+ save becomes.

But shame on Workshop for being so tightlipped, its like trying to ask a mate about his night out and them refusing to say anything, so what do you do? You go ask another mate (Ahem#Warmachine#cough) and having a better conversation. Eventually the first friend is left alone and friendless. Silly workshop!
  • badmtf · 2 months ago
GW just pumped out the space puppies, it never cross your mind that they were SAVING THE NIDS FOR AFTER the wolfs,
Always keeping you on your toes.
  • andrewdrexler · 2 months ago
Nids SHOULD be a horde army. Although Nids are still a rough and tumble top tier codex (Nid player just won World Wide War event), so I really don’t see the reason for a new codex (unless they nerf the be-jeezus out of NidZillia lists and make it the horde to out horde Orcs). I just wonder how steep the Codex-Creep will be THIS time (and how cheap the counter to the Space Wolves physic power will be).

    Ugh,

could they have picked a more BORING chapter for the 40k movie?

    Good lord.
  • krius666 · 2 months ago
Have you not got the memo yet? Here's is the fanboy order: Ultrafaggot-mary-sues-in-space and LOL Mech Guard. If it's not these two things "no one cares". The sad part is is that Dark Eldar could be such an interesting army to put onto the film specially with the movie market the way it is. I find a black flying pirate ship filled with blood thirsty Elves that's only mission in life is to rape and steal your women and use them for sex trades. That sounds more scary than Orks and Tyranids combine. It's all fun and games until someone gets the RECTOBLADE.
  • Legionary · 2 months ago
This comment was beyond stupid. Are you five? "Ultrafaggots"? Grow up.
  • Legionary · 2 months ago
Presumably they have an interesting story for the Ultramarines. I agree that the smurfs have a generally dull backstory but it doesn't mean that a film about or starring them will also per se be dull. Personally I'd have loved a Dark Angels film, but given that the Ultramarines are the ones all over the boxes in the shops it was pretty inevitable that they'd be the breakout group in a film adaptation set in the 40K universe.
  • Anggul · 2 months ago
It should indeed be Dark Angels. Hunting for the Fallen or something. They're much more interesting.

so? Is the Tyrgon going to be in the actual codex or just Apoc. Only? I've heard it two ways and I REALLY don't think it'd be fair to have it in normal point games. Also why another Biovore? Didn't we JUST get a new model last dex released? I've been waiting for Gargoyals to go plastic for years now. I can't wait to feasibly field them. Al and all. I can't wait for this next update. I think I'm finally going to get a Hive Tyrant. :]
  • BrassScorpion · 2 months ago
It's likely that if the Trygon becomes a regular Codex choice it will be appropriately toned down to fit "normal" games. The Valkyrie has already been through the same process.

The future of a 40k movie would be most likely much more satisfactorily represented in the form of an animated / cartoon film than live action.
Think about it... wouldn't you find the idea of Dark eldar and Nids 'doin their thang' to be just better presented and easier to digest in sixteen colours?
  • Daddy · 2 months ago

  • kriegfreak · 2 months ago
Love the Tyranids. Love the Chaos reaver. The Elysian buggy sounds pretty awesome, I'm sensing some sort of Delta Force type thing. The movie has me worried, with Ultramarines its already boring before it ships.
  • limunpai · 2 months ago
How about this for the plot of the movie:

Cut in on the main character as a non-marine getting his family killed by a tyrant.
Main character gets saved by Ultramarines and tyrant gets away.
Montage of the main character getting trained/indoctrinated/modified.
Main character on a scout mission scene.
Main character getting his power armor.
Final battle on main character's home planet where tyrant is deposed and main character avenged through bolter and chainsword.

I think that might be cool.

My girlfriend said that because it is called Ultramarines, it will suck :P
  • Mr_Pickles · 2 months ago
IMHO, i think their doing the Ultra's is cause GW is expanding into younger age markets and to younger kids (10+), power-armored ppls that go around pwning stuff is cool, although for a REAL 40k movie, i'd think it should have a X raiting cause the universe itself is suppose to be dark and have heavy Gothic themes through out ,however GW won't do that cause X rated movies won't get sold in major retail outlets (and/or movie theaters) it would put their product in places that wouldn't make TONS of money, which they don't want to have happen.

I have deep luv for Nids when I started in 2nd ,and am current SW player. Even I don't think the NIDs dex was needed. You can still play it now. I think DH/WHunters should have been first or even DE. If GW is still all about profit/sales then just say they won't put out a Dex for DE beacause no sales to push for it from prior release.

As for bad choice of UM in the movie UGGGH. Wouldn't a cool SW movie be better since Dex was just released?WTF? I think the Mark of Chaos, and Warhammer online moves are the BOMB! if the New movie is not up to that on par then screw dat! I would consider it failed if they can't make them as good as these.

Well, with the release of of a new 'nids codex, and the new 40k movie, I have to point out that there is a pretty good Imperial Guard vs Tyranids movie out there. It's called Starship Troopers.

-The body armor/helmet in the movie is near identical to IG carapace armor.
-In both, over-the-top propaganda plays a role.
    -AracNIDS......TyraNIDS..*That one's a bit of a reach...*

The list goes on, but I have to get back to work....But ya see where I'm comming from.
