People require GW to hold their hands in this 'hobby'.

Hell, son, if you're such a go-getter why don't you write up your own system of rules and popularize it across three continents? No one's telling you how to play.

As it so happens, the rest of us, when we buy what is ostensibly a system of rules for a game, like it when those rules are reasonably complete and well-written. Saying "well you can just make the rest up as you go along!" means nothing because I could do that anyways, so why are we paying US$75+ for this if it's gonna get tossed out the window on a whim?

aL also raises a very good point: if you're playing with a bunch of strangers, you want a common ground you can all agree on. You should not have to spend half an hour hashing out "Okay, so how do _you_ guys play Biovores? Alright, what about..."

You seem to equate wanting a set of official rules with being some sort of baby-faced loser who is terrified to do anything on their own, when in reality it's much more of an issue of not wanting to spend an hour arguing with someone over what a given wording means. "Yeah, I houseruled my Bolters to be S5 AP1 today" is very creative but not exactly the sort of thing you want to play against, and to be honest most people are _terrible_ at writing rules because very, very small things can make a very big difference. If it's you and three friends hanging out and having a good time, yeah, you can fly by the seat of your pants, but not all games are that casual or are between close acquaintences.

Re: 40K NEWS: Planetstrike FAQ and GD-US News

When a man runs up to you and screams "I'M NOT CRAZY!!!" at the top of his lungs while clawing desperately at his eyes, do you believe him?

Sometimes people say things because they know you're going to assume the opposite- and then you do anyways, despite what they've said. GW's pronouncements, no matter what they put in the fine print, have an level of authority to them that amateur FAQs and tourney judges never will. It's simply how things are.

Re: 40K NEWS: Planetstrike FAQ and GD-US News

There are plenty of people who are interested in playing competitive 40K; they're the ones that go to tournaments.

Hobbying is one aspect of the game; tactical gamesmanship is another, and one that GW has long ignored, and that has hurt them a lot. Magic: the Gathering wasn't intended to be a competitive game, either, but the company saw that, in doing so, they could make a lot of money and expand their audience, and went with it. GW's stubborn refusal to make anything resembling a decent FAQ or errata or try to have any kind of tournament system has, in my opinion, been a major detriment to the game as a whole.

Re: 40K NEWS: Planetstrike FAQ and GD-US News

Sounds boring.
: )

Re: 40K NEWS: Planetstrike FAQ and GD-US News

Most likely in Baltimore so GW doesn't have to spend as much money on logistics.

Re: 40K NEWS: Planetstrike FAQ and GD-US News

I'm really no surprised to hear that the quality of US Games Days has been declining. I went to the UK Games Day this year, and it was no where near as good as it used to be. I'm not sure if the attendance figures were up or down, it seemed to have a reasonably crowd, but there really was very little there compared to previous Games Days I have been to. And the cost of a ticket - £30!!!! It's outrageous, and I certainly wont be going back for a while.

Re: 40K NEWS: Planetstrike FAQ and GD-US News

First 2 do both :P hehehe in just that mature

Re: 40K NEWS: Planetstrike FAQ and GD-US News

Yeah... well, you're one person I won't miss not meeting at Games Day.

Calling anybody that doesn't agree with you pathetic: very very pathetic.

Re: 40K NEWS: Planetstrike FAQ and GD-US News

GW have consistently shown a lack of respect for fans/gamers in North America. The NorAm management have run it as a "money money money" company, with little or no regard to the hobby or community end. It's entirely fallen to the fans/gamer/clubs to fill the void.

Which probably means we Canadians should just organize our own Games Day and tell GW to go flog itself.

And I second the vote for not throwing away the costume.... instead, post pictures!

Re: 40K NEWS: Planetstrike FAQ and GD-US News

It's not about "rules lawyers", it's about consistency of play between strangers. You may like playing only with your small circle of friends, but for some of us the hobby gets a lot more interesting when we meet new people. And, on meeting them, we would prefer to be able to get down to gaming right away, instead of arguing for hours about who's house rules are better or fairer.
