D&D halflings are NOT Hobbits.
The differences are staggering. Just like the Elves and the orcs and goblins and what not.
Even the dwarves are vastly different in appearance and outlook.

ps: I HATE hobbits. They are abominations that should never have been.

we're all smart too. no need to try to prove yourself king of the geeks. it just makes your peers think you're a jerk (or just an internet troll) and respond accordingly.

as a sidenote, not everything fantasy is "ripping off Tolkien's universe" and JRR isn't the reason why the plural includes a "v" (though copyright reasons sometimes are. he borrowed from folklore, and used some of the language-forms of the source material. so he used the Old Norse plural for the race he took from their legends -- Dwarves were the maggots crawling in the proto-Jotunn Ymir's flesh after he was slaughtered Odin and his two brothers (Vili and Ve, two occasional epithets for Odin in Snorri's Prose Edda, Hoenir and Lodur/Loki in the older Poetic Edda). after many of the myths transmigrated, spellings changed -- they aren't set in stone, you know (except in the viking carvings, but that's different), and they even had different dialects. the dialect that came from Scandinavia into Saxon Germany and then to England had many hundred years to change, and its grammar is largely different than that of the Old Norse.

Games Workshop used the proper British grammar. Tolkien, when he "ripped off" Snorri Sturlusson (et al), used the Norse original, given that he was a Linguist and the LotR was his pet project for analyzing languages. which one you want to use is moot -- we know what you are talking about.

Dungeons and Dragons had to include Halflings instead of Hobbits to avoid intellectual property issues, but we all know what they are. a "v" versus and "f" really shouldn't matter to you -- who should have far more important things to base your life around than correcting the not-necessarily-wrong spelling mistakes of people who will only ridicule you for it -- but it certainly has mattered in the past to companies and individuals that own certain names and not other permutations of said names.

being nitpicky about grammar in a professional journal or a publication is one thing, on a site devoted to a fun game and a hobby while not even getting your own point correct is a complete other. please think before you post something incorrect and asinine like this again.

My first vote - by a large margin - would be for the "Aussie hat" rough riders.
Reasons
- they are planet/regiment neutral
- there aren't any rough riders currently in stores
- they are great models

Other things I would like more of would include:
the "classic" IG (Imperial Guard/Imperial Army) from the late 80s.
"Marauder" Orks - the ones that looked very Afrika Korps

The "Gothic Horror" (iirc) range would be great to see again, as well as some things like the "Orc villagers", and the 1987 Lord of the Rings minis - some of which were fantastic. It's not like they don't have the license.

If they could re-issue plastic kits, I'd dearly love to see:
The old IG plastics
The old Ork plastics
The old Squat plastics
The old Ork Battlewagon (I was having a hard time convincing some local players that there was an old plastic battlewagon)
The wheel plate/bolt on armor sprue from the old battlewagon (also featured in the Gorkamorka "Gubbins bag")
The RTB001 "beakie" marines

Other things on my list (such as Praetorians and Beret wearing Storm Troopers) would actually be done better by having a plastic head sprue made up (either GW or L&U League) to allow easier conversion of minis.

Print on demand or a rotation of items.

If they added items every three months, and took orders/produced them for six months, they would have two "sets" of collector's minis at any given time. This would allow them to focus on fewer molds, and increase the volume of sales for the items in the current window. I think dividing things up into 8 or 12 groups would work - since it would bring things back into production every two or three years.

It would be easy to have all of the Man o' War minis available in one set, pimp them online (and in WD) for a few months, and then retire the molds for a few years. This is what Disney does with their movies on home video - releases them for a limited time, then pulls them for a few years. It allows them to maintain prices and demand, but not lose too much business to secondary sources (used and piracy).

Hopefully they release the speeders or the old preds for SM, don't know anyother classic models but I believe these classics are better than the current ones hands down.

for a long time i've wonder why it is that GW don't run a 'print on demand' catalogue. that way all items that they still can produce can be available, but don't take up infinite amounts of space and money.

perhaps finally GW are catching up with the modern age.

maybe if we are lucky they will digitize all there old moulds so that they can no longer simply be cracked and given up on.
