Personally there are many more armies to worry about revamping than the Space Wolfs. This habbit GW gets into of making 1 codex for every other army then 6 for space marines gets a little annoying. Would it kill them to just release all the chapter spesific rules in one book.
You don't see a codex for every IG regiment, Chaos Sect,Eldar Craftworld, Ork Tribe, and Tau Sept. and in a way this is unfair to every other army who end up paying to be second class punching bags for the Emperah's finest. Hello, Dark eldar, Witch Hunters, and anyone else nutured by 5th edition.

Like it or not the 40K universe is Imperial centric and Space Marine biased - that will likely never change.
But one thing I have always wished for is that GW get rid of the ,one codex at a time over the course of few years, paradigm. Especially when not all codexes get updated before a new rules edition comes out. To me thats just bad business.
Instead I wish they took a more Privateer Press approach and updated there whole universe and timeline at once, equally, across all factions. You come out with a big book and the main minis and characters for each faction and then slowly roll out more minis from the book over time - again, equally across all factions.
Granted that this approach would be more cumbersome for GW than it is for PP, but GW has more resources to bring to bare on this.
I think it would make the player base alot happier in the long run.

There has been a problem with the codexes published just before the release of 5th edition. Chaos marines and Orks in particular seem to be lagging behind in the rules. they don't seem to take advantage of 5th edition as much as the space Marine or IG codex. And i think this has a lot to do with what your saying. the longer into a given eddition that a codex is written the more it seems tuned to the tatics and rules of the core book.
Weather this is intentional or not isn't my concern but for people who play 40k alot this turns into "Codex de-jour always dominates the game" and it just rolls throuh each book. When the new chaos came out they were on top of the tourny lists second only to Mech (clowns in falcons) eldar. then the Orks hit the shelves no one could really stop them. Repeat again with new Space Marines and now guardsmen are poised to take the spotlight for a while.
Releasing all the armies at one time would at least put the writers in the same place at the same time so that one army doesn't benafit from 4 or 6 years of gaming in a given rules set as someone working with an outdated codex.

It's about spreading the inflow of money over a span of time not all at once. They are a business after all. *This statement is not meant to be sarcastic or negative.*
Riot-Man

Than sell the individual books separately but at least write them at the same time so we don't end up with this rolling superiority. Gw is going to make the same amount of money by publishing all their rule books at the same time that they would doing this 4 month/6 month army revision. and it would be a more balanced game over all.
Bluesfart
would you prefer a more long term superiority? I think it's a good thing that there's a flavor of the week, rather than the possibility of an army that's better for years.
I'm happy with my race, but it's interesting to get cycles of new foes to play against.

I have to say that I am more of a fan for generic models and upgrade sprues instead of chapter specific models. So many possibilities flushed down the toilet because the metal model has silly teeth and unruly hair :(
Diapers

we could all have cool minis but instead gw makes lame chapter specific minis. it would be coolers if the whole mini range could be customized insted of sculpting them as members of a chapter.

Given that the only current forgeworld infantry sw models are the terminator upgrades this makes perfect sense. It also pairs with the WHW pics from earlier in the week that appeared to show that the current Long Fangs were not being used for photoshoots.

and so i am. lol I do play marines and would be happy if Space Wolves were just a little more balanced. (I know everything is unbalanced) the space wolves have always been more powerful but cheaper than all other space Marines. It'd be nice if they had a few drawbacks for change. on a side note here is a silly history fact for you. In many Indian cultures wolves are considered mythical and sacred animals but in my tribe they are viewed a bit differently. There are stories about the wicked trickster Coyote and his slow dimwitted friend Wolf. To say someone is a wolf spirit is to call them mentally retarded. My local gaming club one of our members has the nickname Wolf and I remind of this fact whenever he pulls off a really bad tactic. (I hope everybody gets a good laugh out of this is not meant to offend anyone)

Wolves have no drawbacks? That's news to me. Our Grey Hunters with bolters are more expensive then regular marine, the Cheap Blood Claws have BS/WS 3, Long Fangs are really expensive and have no ablative wounds. Sure they hve some nifty special rules but they do have drawbacks too.

Sounds good. I could play Marines, yet not like everyone else, as I'd probably be the only one with SW around (We have on DA, one BT and a dozen of codex SMs, which makes me reluctant in starting a SM army even though I like the dex and everything. Would go with Chaos if the dex wasn't so meh)
John
A gut feeling tells me the new Space Wolves are likely to be really powerful. They're likely to receive all the benefits of the new Space Marine codex plus a few new benefits. Not trying to start a power-creep debate just pointing out that along with the some of the best fluff around the SWs are gonna get everything they need to make them a really attractive/competitive army (ie cool minis and special rules).
One more thing to read until a new Inquisition codex comes out...

Dont know if this has been mentioned but the Horus book with SW has just been postponed until 1Q 2010
Yeah, a lot of the haircuts are kinda dumb, and there aren't enough fangs. You can use some fantasy marauder and fanatic heads for wild looking mountain men heads, but it's really only worth getting the boxes if you have another use for the rest of the bits.
It looks like my timing was bad, I finally bought some plastic devastators a few months back to be long fangs, oh well it wasn't too hard to do some minor conversions.

Purely speculative, but maybe they will release the long wished for plastic Thunderhawk along with SW. My suspicions were raised when in the WD focusing on the Stompa's, there was artwork on one of the pages with a SW Thunderhawk performing a strafing run. Looking back at stuff, GW has foreshadowed stuff and hidden things right in front of us before.

Heck, the wolves are the only other space marine army I've ever thought about switching to. I've been ultras forever... but I just recently picked up a buncha painted wolves off ebay for cheap. I hope they do put out some upgrade packs, makes it nice to have all kinds of bits etc. I can't wait to see what the wolves do.

Mot sure I see the point of a Long Fang Box - if you're doing Space wolves it's practically guaranteed you'll have enough wolfy bits left over from blood claws and gret hunters to convert a vanilla marine devastator squad. I'd rather have a Power-armour wolfguard veterans box in the same mould as the DA verts box.
Plastic wolf guard termies sound good, but I've already got the FW ones.
Still, Space wolves have been my army since RT and it's good to see them getting some love again.
dietrich
If there is a plastic longfang box, I suspect it's because they get different weapon options from Dev Squads. Otherewise, they could just do like DA - revise the SW upgrade sprue, and you could convert the plastic SM devs into long fangs easily enough.
BigGrim

This make me a very happy Wolf! Plastic Long Fangs & Wolf Guard Terminators? Yes please! Didn't expect the Claws or Hunters to change much but an updated (Heavily expanded? One can hope!) SW Sprue would be very very welcome!
Been playing the Wolves since Rogue Trader. Been waiting for a new Codex so long I started a Salamader Army and built an Eldar Swordwind force. Now I have a deadline to get them finished!
