Bell of Lost Souls: 40K SNEAK PEAK: 2nd Wave Orks (Part 2)

  • Sixsystems · 1 year ago
I'm a big fan of the 'Uge choppa, but I'd like to see more PKs in the mix. Its hard to tell from the photograph, but does anyone know how many power klaws will be included?

All in all, I agree that these Nob model look really, really good. I'm excited to get my hands on them!
  • Madjob · 1 year ago
2, possibly 3? You can make out 2 very easily in another picture of the entire sprues, and there's something that looks like it might be a third PK arm, but it's difficult to tell.
  • Sixsystems · 1 year ago
3 would be great! Too bad it couldn't be 5 though... big fan of the PK. Especially when your boyz need all the options they can get to take down more heavily armored opponents!
  • Azzy · 1 year ago
Three was my count as well. Worst comes to worst, there's always those PKs from the bikers and boyz sets to add to the lot.
  • jon · 1 year ago
I'm loving the new Nobz, buzzsaw axes are now officially my favorite things ¦ P
and the battlewgon definitely looks better open topped, and with all the extra turrets and stuff, it's just begging me to make loads of little tanks for my grots :D lol
.........I'm going to be so poor by the time they finnish releasing these kits (@o_) ha ha
  • Selby · 1 year ago
Looking good. I wish some pics of the new grots would show up though :p
  • jon · 1 year ago
I have seen some somewhere, they basically look like the old gorkamorka rebel grots, I think it was on warseer or somewhere similar , it was a couple of weeks ago, they looked pretty good from what I saw :D
  • jon · 1 year ago
oh yeah ,... and theres some here

  • Sixsystems · 1 year ago
Thanks for the link, Jon. Those grots look fantastic!!!
  • Kevin · 1 year ago
Those two-handed chain axes and buzz saws are the business. Despite all the complaining I do about some of GW's design policies, their modeling has been top notch for the last few years, and the Nobs are a big example of that. Those Battlewagons look much better painted as well.

    Lovin da WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • chris · 1 year ago
Forget about Loota spam, I'm predicting Nobz and battlewagons in waves!
  • UltramarineFan · 1 year ago
Tjose Nobz look petty awesome and that buzzsaw/axe thing on the bottom, right of the sprue is really sweet.
  • Sixsystems · 1 year ago
I think that buzzsaw thing may be for a painboy option. If so, that would be pretty darn cool!
  • UltramarineFan · 1 year ago
You could be right, it would, at the least, be a good start for a conversion to make a painboy
  • Sixsystems · 1 year ago
MWUAH HA HA HA HA!!!! More and MOre converstions!
  • adam · 1 year ago
    mmmwwwwhhhhhhaaaaahhhaaaahaaaaaahaaaaa!
god damn! the new nobz will be best plastic kit ever. hands down. (well, 'till they show us some more new plastics anyway, mmmm, plastic horrors with a side serving of P.bearers, thanks GW.)
going to be a pleasure working with those nobz, cant wait to get my grubby chaos tainted hands on them
  • Mooseman · 1 year ago
The two sprues show for the battlewagon don't contain enough parts to make the whole thing (no chassis or front jaw plate). Conclusion: A plastic deffrolla is still possible!
Also pretty much no chance of plastic flash gits (methinks a forgeworld kit is in order) but I don't care, the nobs look so damn cool!
  • Mooseman · 1 year ago
OK, scratch that. Sad smiley face.

  • Sixsystems · 1 year ago
    Hey Moose,

Do you happen to know, with some of the photos you've seen, if the kit will include rokkits- or does it only come with big shootas? I don't have full Internet freedom here at the office so there are a number of pictures I haven't seen...
  • Mooseman · 1 year ago
Sorry, just can't tell from those pictures. And while I wouldn't rule it out entirely, I see what you mean - there does seem to be a predominance for Big Shootas. Ah well, I'll still probably end up getting at least a couple.
  • zemlod · 1 year ago
The bottom right Kapo is wielding a slugga that looks suspiciously close to ye olde villain's gun - the C96

I will have to start Orks after all !

Is that Zagstruk standing to the left of the wagon? I know we've seen this model before but does this mean he'll be released with the others? I hope so!
  • Azzy · 1 year ago
Yeah, Zagstrukk is slated for release in Jan along with the BW, grots, nobz, stormboyz, Snikrot & Badrukk.
  • Azzy · 1 year ago
The nobz look like they come packed with a good number of options on their three sprues (though no flash git bitz), the grots include both squig hound, grabba stik and grot-prod for the runtherd. Unfortunately, the battlewagon does not seem to include a deffrolla, lobba, or killkannon on its four sprues. A shame, but these things should be easy enough to kitbash (seems like a potential BoLS article in the making).

All in all, the wave 2 releases are looking sweet.
  • Jeffery Keown · 1 year ago
Each new picture that shows up makes me burn hotter for these darn models! I hope GW is monitoring all the viral goings-on so they know not to release static, disinteresting kits for the IG next year. This is what we want! These Orks are the best. plastics. ever.
  • Madjob · 1 year ago
What disappoints me is that both the Nobz and Stormboyz have connected legs and torsos, with just a chest piece to glue on to cover up the hollow inside. I don't even know if said pieces can be swapped around or not or if they only line up on the appropriate body. However we do get a ridiculous amount of extra bits in both boxes (8 different heads for the nobs!) and there are enough of the limbs and gear bits that we can still easily make a varied mob straight out of the box.

It's also disappointing that there is only the option for a zzap gun or a kannon for the BW, but I would guess many Meks out there are already scheming ways to model lobbas and killkannons on the new kit.
  • Sixsystems · 1 year ago
Originally, I was so happy that the BW was even going to be available that I wan't remotely concerned about the lack of all options. Now, however, I'm finding that I really don't have the time to build the options myself- so I feel a bit let down.

Guess I'm with you, Mad... little disappointed.
  • UltramarineFan · 1 year ago
I'm only going to give mine a zzap gun and four big shootas so I'm okay. My choice to not take the killkannon is because,
    1. A boomgun is better and I'm going to get one of those anyway for my looted wagon.
2.With a killkannon it won't be able to transport my Nobz and Warboss.
  • Sixsystems · 1 year ago
I'm more of a rokkit guy than a big shoota guy. But I play against Space Marines more than anything else. I'm not sure about the looted vehicle these days- it seems that the BW is more useful for the games I play.

I'm curious, what armies do you play against most often, Ultra? I ask because I'm meeting more people that play 40k and I will need to re-evaluate my lists. Any justification for those big shootas will be helpful!
  • Madjob · 1 year ago
The justification for big shootas over rokkits is easy: BS 2! With 3 shots from a big shoota, you are more likely to get hits than with a single rokkit shot with our lousy BS, even if it's the TL ones on Deffkoptas. Ork shooting tends to focus on attrition, enough shots and anything will fail its saves enough to die. AP 3 is nice but most Ork players tend to find an overwhelming number of shots to be more effective. Obviously with the new template rules we also favor those more now as well: Boomwagons can be deadly with their AP 3 pie plates against MEQ, or anything else, really. Their weakness is their frailty even with 'ard case, but if you get them stripped down to the essentials (Boomgun, 'ard case, and maybe a big shoota or grot riggers), they can be worth taking, particularly if you've got a KFF Mek they can hang out with.
  • Anon · 1 year ago
You get more hits, but the lack of AP (and lower S) means the total number of unsaved wounds is about equal.

BS 2 -> 1/3, so for a mob of 30 boyz, 3 big shootas is about 3 hits. S 5 (IIRC), so we can expect two wounds. Against MEQ, that's about 2/3 of a wound per round of shooting.

For 3 rokkits, 1 hit, S 8 (IIRC) and AP 3 means 5/6 wounds, plus it has a chance to kill a tank. I would say the only drawback of the rokkit is the shorter range.

Of course, against horde armies, big shootas are naturally better.
  • Anon · 1 year ago
...and of course I did my math wrong. Against MEQ, that should be 4/3 wounds per round, which means it's a smidgen better than the rokkit.

I prefer the rokkits because as a horde player, I'm trying to get stuck in anyways, so the 1/2 wound/round difference of shooting isn't a big deal, whereas the rokkits give me some anti-vehicle options. The Big Shootas do work wonders against other hordes, though.
  • Sixsystems · 1 year ago
I think both you and Anon have some very good points! Because of my nearly constant games vrs SM and CSM I usually take the rokkits to get passed the 3+ save. I agree with Madjob that our shooting tends to focus on attrition, but I like the versitility of having weapons that will take out marine troops and maybe even a tank.

Do your views apply to the BW specifically, or to squads and vehicles in general?
  • Madjob · 1 year ago
I'd say in general but the reasoning differs for both. I'm the sort who finds that the heavy weapons are wasted in S/C mobs, as if you aren't within assault range, you're going to be running instead of shooting. In Shoota mobs however, yes, they could work, I personally prefer big shootas there as again with my shooting I'm aiming for wounds through large amounts of fire.

Vehicles I suppose comes more down to preference in some cases? It's changed a lot in 5th thanks to s4 defensive weapons, especially for orks, all of our non-walker vehicles have the option to transport troops, which means (with the exception of boomwagons) ours are never going to be standing still as they'll be trying to get boyz into assault. So, we're going to only be firing 1 gun with them per turn if at all, and likely most of the vehicles will die before they have an opportunity to really open up. With that in mind, I don't find there's much point to spending the extra points on an already dodgy (thanks to our BS) and MEQ-specific weapon that might never get to fire.
  • Sixsystems · 1 year ago
Hmmm.... Yeah- I think I see where you're coming from. Those points can be better spent on more boys, deff koptas, etc.

    Thanks for your thoughts! :)
  • Anon · 1 year ago
Well, there's always the question of what the vehicles do after the boys get stuck in - depending on the situation, they could sit where they are and pepper the enemy with fire. Trukks are so fragile it's probably not worth spending the points on, though.
  • Azzy · 1 year ago
I haven't settled on how I'm going to gun my BWs. I know I'll build one with a killkannon just because, but for my boss/nob's ride I might go with a kannon (versatile) and some big shootas (if they were twin-linked I'd go with rokkits).
  • Mooooooo! · 1 year ago
I see kitbashing potential into the stratosphere here. /Neo on/ WHOA. /Neo off/
  • RTM · 1 year ago
I'm very glad to see that 'ooge choppas are actually nearly playable now, because I'm another vote for BUZZSAW SWEETNESS. I will be creating one of each of those buzzsaw nobs, for sure.
  • Hatchett · 1 year ago
    GENTLEMEN! Bee-HOLD!
You all know of those little foot massagers that come with three rolling cylinders pinched between two little arches? You set them on the floor in front of your heated La-Z-Boy and rub your foot forth and back upon it? They have little triangular knobs for the finger action?
Take them off and you have three deff rollas. They even roll freely if you attach them to the vehicle correctly.
  • Sixsystems · 1 year ago
A little Aqua Teen Hunger Force sub-reference, Hatchett?

I'm interested in knowing the exact dimensions of the BW vrs the foot massagers to see if it would work out.

    Great idea though, Hatch!
  • BrotherAtrox · 1 year ago
Does this battlewagon remind anyone of that movie where the monster trucks got possessed and tried to kill some people held up in a gas station? Other than that - they look cool. I'm excited about the conversion options...
  • Thomas · 1 year ago
that sounds like a stephen king novel.
  • KhestraTheUnbeheld · 1 year ago
    That'd be "Maximum Overdrive".
  • Drew · 1 year ago
Is it just me or are we going to see a lot of custom built gargants with ether the cab a the Iron Gob as a head or just using the Iron gob as a job.... It was the first thing I thought of when I saw that Battlewagon front end.
  • Drew · 1 year ago
The First thing I thought of when I saw the Battlewagon was Gargant head!!! Talk about imposing looking!
  • Ianator · 1 year ago
Why does everyone think this won't be coming with a Killkannon? I'm pretty sure that's what's sticking out of the black one's big turret. Mind, it'd be a pretty weedy killkannon, but I guess that's what Looted Wagon Boomguns are for.
  • Madjob · 1 year ago
As that's the same turret that houses the zzap gun, it's pretty easy to assume that that particular gun, which is the only option on the sprue for the turret aside from the zzap gun, is a regular kannon, since zzap guns, kannons, and lobbas are the single "big gunz" choice you can take on a BW.
  • Savark · 1 year ago
    Nobz battlewagon, how very goffy
