Trukks are so fragile it's probably not worth spending the points on, though.

Re: 40K SNEAK PEAK: 2nd Wave Orks (Part 2)

As that's the same turret that houses the zzap gun, it's pretty easy to assume that that particular gun, which is the only option on the sprue for the turret aside from the zzap gun, is a regular kannon, since zzap guns, kannons, and lobbas are the single "big gunz" choice you can take on a BW.

Re: 40K SNEAK PEAK: 2nd Wave Orks (Part 2)

Why does everyone think this won't be coming with a Killkannon? I'm pretty sure that's what's sticking out of the black one's big turret. I'm the sort who finds that the heavy weapons are wasted in S/C mobs, as if you aren't within assault range, you're going to be running instead of shooting. In Shoota mobs however, yes, they could work, I personally prefer big shootas there as again with my shooting I'm aiming for wounds through large amounts of fire.

Vehicles I suppose comes more down to preference in some cases? It's changed a lot in 5th thanks to s4 defensive weapons, especially for orks, all of our non-walker vehicles have the option to transport troops, which means (with the exception of boomwagons) ours are never going to be standing still as they'll be trying to get boyz into assault. So, we're going to only be firing 1 gun with them per turn if at all, and likely most of the vehicles will die before they have an opportunity to really open up. With that in mind, I don't find there's much point to spending the extra points on an already dodgy (thanks to our BS) and MEQ-specific weapon that might never get to fire.

Re: 40K SNEAK PEAK: 2nd Wave Orks (Part 2)

Sorry, just can't tell from those pictures. And while I wouldn't rule it out entirely, I see what you mean - there does seem to be a predominance for Big Shootas. I know I'll build one with a killkannon just because, but for my boss/nob's ride I might go with a kannon (versatile) and some big shootas (if they were twin-linked I'd go with rokkits).

Re: 40K SNEAK PEAK: 2nd Wave Orks (Part 2)

Three was my count as well. Against MEQ, that should be 4/3 wounds per round, which means it's a smidgen better than the rokkit.

I prefer the rokkits because as a horde player, I'm trying to get stuck in anyways, so the 1/2 wound/round difference of shooting isn't a big deal, whereas the rokkits give me some anti-vehicle options. The Big Shootas do work wonders against other hordes, though.

Re: 40K SNEAK PEAK: 2nd Wave Orks (Part 2)

I think both you and Anon have some very good points! Because of my nearly constant games vrs SM and CSM I usually take the rokkits to get passed the 3+ save. I agree with Madjob that our shooting tends to focus on attrition, but I like the versitility of having weapons that will take out marine troops and maybe even a tank.

Do your views apply to the BW specifically, or to squads and vehicles in general?

Re: 40K SNEAK PEAK: 2nd Wave Orks (Part 2)

You get more hits, but the lack of AP (and lower S) means the total number of unsaved wounds is about equal.

BS 2 -> 1/3, so for a mob of 30 boyz, 3 big shootas is about 3 hits. S 5 (IIRC), so we can expect two wounds. Against MEQ, that's about 2/3 of a wound per round of shooting.

For 3 rokkits, 1 hit, S 8 (IIRC) and AP 3 means 5/6 wounds, plus it has a chance to kill a tank. I would say the only drawback of the rokkit is the shorter range.

Of course, against horde armies, big shootas are naturally better.

Re: 40K SNEAK PEAK: 2nd Wave Orks (Part 2)

The justification for big shootas over rokkits is easy: BS 2! With 3 shots from a big shoota, you are more likely to get hits than with a single rokkit shot with our lousy BS, even if it's the TL ones on Deffkoptas. Ork shooting tends to focus on attrition, enough shots and anything will fail its saves enough to die. AP 3 is nice but most Ork players tend to find an overwhelming number of shots to be more effective. Obviously with the new template rules we also favor those more now as well: Boomwagons can be deadly with their AP 3 pie plates against MEQ, or anything else, really. Their weakness is their frailty even with 'ard case, but if you get them stripped down to the essentials (Boomgun, 'ard case, and maybe a big shoota or grot riggers), they can be worth taking, particularly if you've got a KFF Mek they can hang out with.

Re: 40K SNEAK PEAK: 2nd Wave Orks (Part 2)

GENTLEMEN! Bee-HOLD!
You all know of those little foot massagers that come with three rolling cylinders pinched between two little arches? You set them on the floor in front of your heated La-Z-Boy and rub your foot forth and back upon it? They have little triangular knobs for the finger action?
Take them off and you have three deff rollas. They even roll freely if you attach them to the vehicle correctly.

Re: 40K SNEAK PEAK: 2nd Wave Orks (Part 2)

Hey Moose,

Do you happen to know, with some of the photos you've seen, if the kit will include rokkits- or does it only come with big shootas?
