BTW the trees must be removable so they can fit this terrain into a box otherwise it's just to oddly shaped to be in one.

Re: 40K SNEAK PEAK: Plastic Battlescape

little red riding hood is having a bad time with the big bad space wolf in the rhino :):)

Re: 40K SNEAK PEAK: Plastic Battlescape

They are similarly "organized" as many of the Blastscape ones. This Battlescape piece is the craters set that was touted as "blasted rock" rather than the "eroded" Moonscape craters. You can model it as overgrown like they have here (at Toronto GD) with earth in the craters, or bare like they did with the one on display at Spain GD.

Re: 40K SNEAK PEAK: Plastic Battlescape

Where's little red riding hood?

Re: 40K SNEAK PEAK: Plastic Battlescape

Way too organized to be blast craters, it looks like they were placed there...which works if there's a unit that makes use of it, but otherwise it just looks odd as "natural" landscape.

Re: 40K SNEAK PEAK: Plastic Battlescape

It's interesting, but looks really hard to fit models on.

Re: 40K SNEAK PEAK: Plastic Battlescape

Are you positive they are removable? If terrain isn't usable its just a pain in the butt. I have a few hills I made that ended up too steep so they never get used.

Re: 40K SNEAK PEAK: Plastic Battlescape

That's pretty cool, but I'm on the fence about the trees. If this is a piece that does in fact see release I hope that the trees are removable. If not I'm cutting them down to stumps.

Are those eyes on the trees? If GW want to sell them at all, they need to keep the price down to keep them attractive to a wider range of gamers.

Secondly, compared to squad and vehicle kits, the terrain kits are really quite simple, which I assume makes them easier and cheaper to manufacture.

Re: 40K SNEAK PEAK: Plastic Battlescape

Combining the Space Marines, Inquisition, Ecclesiarchy, and Arbites & Mechanicus combat troops gets you nowhere near the number of guardsmen, by at least an order of magnitude. There are going to be quite a few wrecked rhinos around, but it's less common than the chimera in-setting.

It's just a far more iconic 40k vehicle, and far more common in the armies people play.

Re: 40K SNEAK PEAK: Plastic Battlescape

If I get this, a file is going to the eyes as soon as the plastic wrap comes off.

Re: 40K SNEAK PEAK: Plastic Battlescape

Ribbed for your pleasure? :) Sorry, couldn't resist.....

Re: 40K SNEAK PEAK: Plastic Battlescape

So I noticed a bit of a theme here.

The 6 piece battle mat had a bunch of skulls interspersed threw out
The new temple of Skulls piece
And now the Tzeentchy tree thing

I dont really care either way but there seems to be a strong push on the Daemon planet themed stuff. It would be nice to have some cool neutral terrain (besides the craters...and hills....and trees....and buildings......and well you know what I mean right?)

Re: 40K SNEAK PEAK: Plastic Battlescape

My thoughts:

Pros
-Glad to see more GW terrain.
-Glad to see models incorporated into the terrain (Rhino, possibly Space Marine helmets too).

Cons
-The piece is too cramped and busy.
-The trees look terrible, and the eyes make them even worse.
-What's with the circles of rocks?

Re: 40K SNEAK PEAK: Plastic Battlescape

I could definitely see this being used as a base for some really awesome dioramas. I even see a lot of conversion potential. You could easily convert that Rhino to look part of any Imperial, Independent, or Chaos faction. That covers a third of the races in the 40k universe.

So much potential. You could do a whole Chaos diorama with CSM celebrating on top of the downed Rhino, with the trees painted up in Tzeentch theme. Or anything else you could think up!

Re: 40K SNEAK PEAK: Plastic Battlescape

yea, it takes me long enough to paint a rhino as it is. i'd never get finished with that thing. now if they sold it prepainted...

Re: 40K SNEAK PEAK: Plastic Battlescape

That looks great! The greatest thing about the Cities of Death terrain- and all well designed terrain, really- is that it was made in such a way that all it required was an undercoat and a couple of layers of drybrushing/overbrushing and pow! you had great looking terrain for the table. Ready to go with minimal work. Maybe a little flocking, or somesuch, but that's pretty much it.
If I'm gonna spend the kind of time painting something like this needs to look good, it would be a model for my army or......
No, it would be a model for my army. Terrain is cool an' all, but not that cool.
And those eyes just kill the piece, anyhow. Just so.......Lord of the Rings style or something. Maybe Warhammer Fantasy. But 40k? Nah.
Nice paintjob for sure, though.

Re: 40K SNEAK PEAK: Plastic Battlescape

the chimera is proportionally more survivable than the rhino.
