Bell of Lost Souls: 40K SNEAK PEEK: July Releases

  • OptimusDerf · 6 months ago
Any word on what all is included in the Spear box?
  • crunchyjuice · 6 months ago
yeah, itd be nice to know what we are reading here
  • Erunaion · 6 months ago
I would not be at all surprised if that turns out to be the Ultramarines 2nd Company. 142 models is easily enough to include all the Marines and special characters of a company, plus some vehicles. As its spearhead I'd be tempted to guess it'll have a bucketload of drop-pods rather than Rhinos, to make it distinct from the Battle Company box.

Still, just guessing, but that's what it seems like to me.
  • CrusherJoe · 6 months ago
That's my thought as well...though you have to wonder just how many drop pods it'll include...since it's geared for Planetstrike (I'm guessing) then it will probably be for making a mostly podding-in army. Whatever it is...I'm pretty sure it won't be cheap.

I can feel my bank account crying already.
  • TSINI · 6 months ago
theres a good deal on wayland games for an almost complete drop pod company

  • Hoplophile · 6 months ago
That's super cute, but I question their logic of dropping devastators in.... fluffwise I'm thinking Thunderhawk deployment for any of the heavy stuff.

    Which leads us to: Plastic T-hawks, c'mon c'mon!!! :P
  • eyespy · 6 months ago
i promise you there is no plastic thunderhawk, av seen the release schedule for the next 3 months, no plastic thunder hawk, and i have seen the official GW release calendar, sorry boys and girls, its forgeworld for you....
  • RealGenius · 6 months ago
Well, let's guess... 142 models. Second Company is diagramed on pgs 18-19 and pictured on 124-125.

Sicarius and the Lions of Macragge plus Trajan is 7, so that leaves 135.

Sic Tac Squads, 2 Dev Squads and 2 Assault Squads is 100, so that's 35 left.

Two Dreads and Pods for them leaves 31. Pods for everyone else leaves 20.

So what is in the 20? Maybe 10 Sternguard and 10 Vanguard?
  • joe · 6 months ago
i think objective markets and terrain :P
  • garret · 6 months ago
will the kan mini come with a rider
  • Forhekset · 6 months ago
Apparently he comes in both types.
  • eLCee · 6 months ago
I don't think so, it says 1 model blister - so just "Khan per pedes"....
  • Miami · 6 months ago
I'd be more willing to bet, based on information presented, that the outpost and defense network are more likely packaged terrain bundles with the regular 6 tile modular board. GW will push it as long as they can.

I'm curious how many people have bought it. In my area, not a single person I know has purchased one. It is just too overpriced. The original 190 dollar tag, while still very expensive, at least seemed somewhat reasonable.
  • Rich · 6 months ago
My first thought was "cool, some themed board sections" but on reflection you're probably right. Its most likely bundle deals including the RoB gameboard and either five or thirteen pieces selected from the other releases.

If that is the case, hopefully they'll come with a decent discount built in... We had about six to eight of us at our gaming club ready to get ourselves a gameboard each on release plus plans to get a few for the club as well when they were advertised at £100. Putting the price up before release to £150 meant they got a big fat total of zero sales... It just took it well out of the realm of "(very) borderline impulsive hobby spend" into "something expensive that needs to be budgeted and accounted for" territory, which meant for us that homes, cars/bikes, the missus & kids, going out, birthdays and holidays amongst other things all stand cap in hand before it.
  • Roa · 6 months ago
Huh, there's a lot of Space Marine crap, and not a whole lot of stuff for anyone else.

    :/
  • crunchyjuice · 6 months ago
    good
  • Dextro53 · 6 months ago
It is kind of the SM 2nd wave to go with their codex. None of the others got codex updates, so what are they going to put out?
  • Rich · 6 months ago
If they can get 40k through the recession into 2010 on a wave of Imperial releases I'll be more than happy. Just so long as they remember the rest of us when things pick up again...
  • Sathos · 6 months ago
a realistic view, I applaud you :) and before I get the "humph, imperial player" flames... I'm waiting on de/necron :)
  • ctreleheb · 6 months ago
i agree since imperial players probably make up 75% of 40k players, it makes business since to release more of this, especially in an economic downturn such as this. Sure everyone wants more xenos, but all I really want it for GW to continue doing business in the future, what would be the point of releasing all these models if the company went away. With all the complaints about codexes not getting updated quick enough, people should be rational and think, "Hey, waiting a year or 7(space wolves/DE) isn't that bad, considering if GW flopped it would NEVER get updated."
  • TSINI · 6 months ago
this excites me no end, i'm so lazy/bad at terrain, any large scenery release is good news :)
  • Roos · 6 months ago
    Cathedral?!

Just how large is that going to be? $500.00?! Who is going to bother playing this game once the current crop up and decide to forget it with these prices is what I would like to know. I barely buy anything now (I mean, how many Land Raiders can you have? What is the point of buying more stuff I'll never live to paint?) and wow..these huge model sets are really pushing the limits of cost. I haven't met a single player yet that has purchased the modular boards or more than even 1 box of terrain like the Manufactorum.
  • roterrooter · 6 months ago
actually my friends and i have got together a legit city fight board
i dont know if thats normal because it was a group effort but it really makes the game 10x more fun with detailed terrain
as for buying it, that is why it was a group effort
  • Azhrarn · 6 months ago
Gaming clubs and stores with playing areas generally won't have much issues affording those large boxes. I'm guessing it's more aimed at them and the high-end enthusiast.

Our gaming club has a full Imperial City box and the fantasy version, mostly for variety next to the other terrain. Or dedicated cityscapes for fun. :)
  • New User · 6 months ago
I bought 2 of the imperial city sets just for personal use so they will find a buyer her for the new terrain, just not the actual boards which are a complete waste of cash and storage space
  • Forhekset · 6 months ago
I've met guys who've bought the gaming board, and the local shop got one soon as it came out (private stockist). I was shocked, I didn't think anyone would buy that sort of thing, but apparently it does sell well, especially to clubs and stuff.

I'd like to buy loads of the terrain buildings and stuff to build with and around, one day if I can afford it. It'd be really nice to have that much detail instead of just all cardboard and stuff.
  • ThatDude · 6 months ago
Really? You're complaining because it sounds big?! Has the whining about GW pricing gotten to the point where we start complaining BEFORE we know the price? Here's the wonderful thing about free market societies, Don't like the cost? Don't buy it.
  • John · 6 months ago
    prices?
  • Bob the Unseen · 6 months ago
Much like the Valkyrie and other recent releases. High but reachable, then scaling to absurd as GW sees even a glimmer of profit potential.

Still I'll probably be seriously tempted to buy the Sacarius spear.
  • Ryan · 6 months ago
Well there goes my paycheck for July, time to get some booby traps. Tee hee
  • Dvastator · 6 months ago
I also am no good at building terrain. I will look forward to some of these kits for my own terrain board.

Also looking forward to the Land Speeder Storm. It will go great with my scout force!
  • Asymmetrical Xeno · 6 months ago
Wow, this years saving me a ton of money :D
  • SpartanTau · 6 months ago
Same here, until the plastic Storm Troopers drop and I start an Imperial army...
  • Asymmetrical Xeno · 6 months ago
Its certainly helping the wallet! they'll probably be a release sometime next year that ill need cash for, and ill be glad this year hasnt had anything to appeal to me.
  • Savark · 6 months ago
this is why i now appreciate money, i don't have a job (hey, i'm 14) and i don't get pocket money. i haven't bought much this year...
  • Eltnot · 6 months ago
That's an awful lot of probably rather shiny plastic terrain. I don't think I'll be buying all that much, but well have to see what comes out. The cathedral might be a nice addition to my cityfight terrain.
  • Samuel Vimes · 6 months ago
Plastic terrain. Yawn. Not interested in Planetstrike in the slightest.
  • Anon · 6 months ago
Somehow I think the rest of us will be able to enjoy it without your critically important aprroval.

Thanks for the useful input, though.
  • Kid Kyoto · 6 months ago
There were rumors that PLANET! STIKE! would see the release of plastic storm troopers, plastic Trigon, new Eldar jetbikes and other stuff GW has done but haven't released.

Plus there was the long running Thunderhawk rumor.

So I wonder if this list is complete.
  • Sathos · 6 months ago
add in the missing letter and "planet strike" is just the book and this is just the release schedule for july.... think about it you still have august, september, october, november, december and the whole of next year for other releases ;)

I could see the storm troopers and jetbikes in maybe august/september but the trigon I cant really see them releasing until they update the codex and its anyone's best guess as to when that is...

as for plastic thunderhawk? my own thoughts are "plastic red herring"
but it would be a smart christmas release business wise.
  • kire · 6 months ago
when i looked at SHRINE OF THE AQUILA i immediately thought of the cathedral from the core rule book the one with the space marines standing in front of it. anyone think this could be a kit for that (it is admittedly huge) or have another idea as to what this could be.
  • Lord Gir of Irk · 6 months ago
Nah that board is a scratch-built/city ruins construction apparently, i think there were some pictures on this very sitey-site, if you click the planetstrike articles/rumours link there is a photo of it i think being defended by some DA.
  • kire · 6 months ago
that would make far more seance. i had always amused hat cathedral was a scratch built but then again i thought the same of the imperial bastions until i saw the box. so i got my hopes up. (not that i could afford it either way)
  • Plasticfish · 6 months ago
Looks like I´m getting my Landspeeder Storms as a birthday present! Well, a day late but that's ok, I forgive you...
Not interrested in any plastic terraine but I think I'll check out Planetstrike, it might be interresting. Resin markers, hmm... it's more fun to create those things yourself.
  • MadDokGrot · 6 months ago
I think it's this one, from the planet strike book.

Imperial Bastion, Imperial Outpost, Imperial Defense Network, Shrine of the Aquila...

really...? No love for anyone but the Imperium? wtf? Give me ONE Eldar shrine or Wraithspire, Ork Wotchtowa, Chaos Pit of Sacrifice, Tau Defense Tower, Tyranid Hive Node... *sigh*
  • ApostleCam · 6 months ago
That is the way things seem to be. I mean, roughly half of 40K's codices are Imperial (1+4 SM codices, 2 Inquisitorial codices, and the IG). Everything is written from an Imperial slant, the Imperium are the 'good guys' and always seem to win (even through it is often a hollow victory). Heck, they are the only army with the ability to pull from other lists, which completely throw game balance out the door (I'm looking at you DH and WH and your 'allies' rule). I could go on... and on... and on.

The point is, it shouldn't surprise you that this is all imperial stuff. The first two 5th edition codices are Imperial and GW seems to be on a bigger 'pro-imperial' kick then usual right now. The "mankind, their super-soldiers and everyone else" concept is, if I am not mistake, a central pillar of the 40k universe. Any non-human is little better then a 'token alien/heretic', who only get a single codices because we 'all look alike'.
  • kettu · 6 months ago
Wait... Did... did you just call the Witchhunters and Daemonhunters unbalanced?

Please tell me you're a comedian or otherwise have no clue to their rules because, well lets face it, they are currently two of the most nerfed codices on sale.

Now please pardon me whilst I laugh myself to death.
  • Khanaris · 6 months ago
Should have read a little more carefully, then. There is no complaint about the Daemonhunters or Witch Hunters on their own. The problem is the Allies rules, which allow you to take only the strengths of those two books and add them into stronger 5th Edition codexes. And you can use that to cover what few weaknesses remained to balance that increase in strength. No other army lists have that luxury.
  • ThatDude · 6 months ago
GW's trend for imperial structures is somewhat well thought out from a modeling standpoint as well as a financial one. Imperial architecture lends itself to conversions for a few of the other races. Add bodies and spikes, chaos bastion; orks bolt whatever onto whatever, so make some rivets, get some random stuff from the hardware store and it's orky; Tyranids have really only sent hive fleets into imperial space, greenstuff some tenticles, then glue on some rippers and those little hive nodes from the gaunt sprue, voila! late stage tyranid terrain. I'll be the first to admit, there are a lot of races that get neglected in this game, right out of the box, or with some ingenuity, these kits do cover a lot of races.
  • Paul · 6 months ago
And why, oh, why do we need another Sicarius-related release?
  • Sathos · 6 months ago
because sicarius is their "chosen" man of the hour for marines with this release, all it really is is space marines second wave and likely an all drop force with a sicarius model included i should think...though there would be hope for a drop dreadnought :)
  • Molochi · 6 months ago
Becayse Ullteramahreenz r teh bestest evars!
  • Colonel Marbi Chora · 6 months ago
Because the ultramarines are the posterchildren of GW, and Sicarius is the biggest one of them all. Ugh, dem boys in blue. Like we really need them any more.
  • Xas · 6 months ago
why cant this list alos show prices?

I#d love to know how "big" the terrain stuff is!
  • faultie · 6 months ago
I don't really care on the marines, but that's a whole heap of buildings! Excellent!
  • DrPepper · 6 months ago
    No plastic thunderhawk? :(
  • oni · 6 months ago
ZOMG! ZOMG! ZOMG! I must have to have them ALL.
  • noogai18 · 6 months ago
I've just got to pray for a summer job to afford the new Strike Force and probabkly at least one Ironclad.
  • Fire_Warrior · 6 months ago
Hope fully these box sets will be done like AOBR so we can pay £45 for that Spear of Sicarius!
Looks like ill be poor that month as well...
  • KhestraTheUnbeheld · 6 months ago
What's that? Convert the Spear of Sicarius into a Warsmith Honsou Iron Warriors speartip? Why, yes, that sounds f**king dandy! :)
  • Sage McSagington · 6 months ago
Bugger. I misread Sicarius as Sicarus and gasped at the possibility of a Word Bearers
army. Then I re-read it and remembered GW haet CHoas marines.
  • UltramarineFan · 6 months ago
CATHEDRAL! Must see that! sounds awesome!
Everything else is pretty nice as well, tempted to get one of the other buildings, but a cathedral...
  • Eldanesh · 6 months ago
In the grim darkness of the far future there is only,...

    Imperial Architecture!
  • Savark · 6 months ago
Spear of sicarius? now i'm REALLY interested.
    imperial bastion...meh
aegis? is that what we saw in that pic?
    SHRINE AND CATHEDRAL?!? cool
  • Colonel Marbi Chora · 6 months ago
For a moment I had a nerdgasam. To be totally supportive of the release and be the token GW-lover, I can't wait for it to come out. The Imperial strongpoint and the Cathedral sound like some very intesting pieces of terraign, As well as the mines and boobytraps, etc. It seems like something fun to play a game over. If the RoB voard was a bit cheaper I might look into the Imperial Outpost, but because GW will probably on Increase the price I'm not looking foreward to making my wallet starve to death.
  • NIck · 6 months ago
Have to say, having the prices would help me plan for any purchases.

I am guessing the cathedral is the dark angels one we have seen in the promo shots. (awesome)

But the defense line coming as a single model? One barricade in a box? It had better be damn cheap!

The spear may come with a few heavier vehicles, like predators and iron clads.
  • Herald of Nurgle · 6 months ago
It's a multi tiered defensive terrain, that actually looks awesome when you see it up close
  • PenelopeTheWonderPony · 6 months ago
Does Spear of Sicarius remind anyone else of Spear of Longinus?
  • Herald of Nurgle · 6 months ago
    Spear of Sicarius:
    - Captain Sicarius
    - Command Squad + Drop Pod
    - Chaplain
    - 6 Tactical Squads + Drop Pods
    - 2 Assault Squads + Drop Pods
    - 2 Devastator Squads + Drop Pods
    - 2 Squads of Terminators
    - 2 Dreadnoughts + Drop Pods
    - Techmarine support + Drop Pods
    - ETC ETC
  • UltramarineFan · 6 months ago
Assault Squads can't take drop pods.
  • Keith · 6 months ago
Yes they can and its the cheapest way to take one. You simply exchange your jump packs for a rhino or drop pod.
  • David McGrath · 6 months ago
Wow! What a drop off. All this cool IG stuff then nothing good on the horizon. Whats up with that?
