Bell of Lost Souls: 40K SNEAK PEEK: New Leman Russ Demolisher

  • Kommandant Krieger · 5 months ago
Holy crap! This looks pretty awesome but it's kinda dissapointing that they didn't make the Babylade. I really like the new turret, except for the part where it's still pointing into the sky.
  • Fortis · 5 months ago
You do know that was a scratch build that one of the guys from around here (melbourne) did as a practical joke to stick on warseer don't you?
  • obsequiousmelon · 5 months ago
    Funny if that's true...
  • TheGreatBeyond · 5 months ago
  • Shaefer · 5 months ago
BOLS just curious but where did you get your info?

was it something official (at a gamesday etc) or is this the same stuff as what TheGreatBeyond is saying is a fake.

gutting if it is a fake cos am holding off expanding my guard tanks till the new kits come out.
  • Old_Paladin · 5 months ago
No, it's not what Beyond is saying is fake.
If you go to the link he provided, you can see that they were saying that the 'baby-blade' style of russ was a fake (and looks totally different then the pics of this demolisher).
  • Shaefer · 5 months ago
ahh cool thanks for that, i couldn't check the link as for some reason my work pc's don't let me access Waseer but they do BOLS.

    Guess its just picky :P

Good news though, hopefully the new russ kit with the other variants shouldn't be far behind then.

classic mousemuffin again (the guy who's doing the clockwork necrons and marines panther)

    what a legend
  • BrotherAtrox · 5 months ago
Well the Demolisher is kinda like the Churchill AVRE, so it makes sense for the turret to be pointing upward.

I like the new look, although I'm not seeing these hull changes they're talking about?
  • Digitarii · 5 months ago
I don't see any hull changes, but the turret looks more like the Ryza pattern turrets from forgeworld.
  • Kommandant Krieger · 5 months ago
It looks like there's no indent under the driver's side anymore where the lights used to be, but that's the only one I can see, unless they're talking about the new weapons.
  • Eyespy · 5 months ago
Well spotted. I was too distracted by the un-glued section under the viewport to notice.
  • stinkoman · 5 months ago
yeah, and i thought i was the only one who thought it looked like it was assembled by a 4 year old.
  • 4thCompanyMasterCorvus · 5 months ago
I dont like the look of the new chassis looks, less.. Umm cool I cant really think of a good description it just dont look right (N)
  • bufftastic · 5 months ago
Is that a hull mounted multi-melta?
I thought only hellhound varients could take that.
*goes off to look for codex*

    Hull Heavy Flamer
  • TSINI · 5 months ago
its a hull heavy flamer, they just didnt bother updating it to the new style for an unknown reason lol (maybe theyre trying to avoid updating tank heavy flamers so they don't get confused by "little timmy" as being inferno cannons or redeemer flamers. their own fault for not making the bigger flamer nozzles insanely bigger...
  • Catzilla · 5 months ago
I don't like the current hull flamers very much, they lack a lot of detail. I still got the old ones from chimera kits which you had to glue on the sawed off heavy bolter mounts.
Those have comparatively much more detail and look really nice. Never used one from the new sprues, just took the old ones.
  • Optimus Derf · 5 months ago
Looks like new top and bottom plates for the hull. The bottom front section lost the cut out for the headlights, the hull mount for the gun is different, and the area around the turret ring just looks different to me (maybe it's actually centered?)
The turret looks like it's an even more modified, at least streamlined, Ryza pattern, (see Forge World) which are bigger than the current Russ turret (which is a good thing to me.)
  • t//B · 5 months ago
.... Can't wait till I get my hands on it and magnetize the hell out of it.
  • BDub · 5 months ago
Judging by the pictures they have made it a lot easier to do weapon swaps - which is uncharacteristic of GW (they would rather you buy another one). But these images show the same hull in all three pics and the weapons look somewhat more modular as well.
  • Commisar_Xi · 5 months ago
Its a MULTI MODEL KIT. GW never does that.

OH NOES!! WHAT ABOUT THE NEW STORM LORD etc...

    Idiots I swear.
  • Kriegfreak · 5 months ago
    hell yes
  • evilamericorp · 5 months ago
Is it just me, or does GW not have anyone who actually knows how to assemble their models on staff? They show all these closeup photos with giant seams and mold lines everywhere, you'd think they would put a little effort into making their picture models look better...
  • stinkoman · 5 months ago
they are soo busy rewriting the imperium.
  • Bitter Old Man · 5 months ago
Very glad I wasn't the only one to notice those horrible mold lines and huge freaking gaps in the miniature. Even the tanks I put together over 10 years ago look better than that.

Hell, maybe GW should just hire some of us to put their stuff together for them, we certainly wouldn't do worse than some of their own staffers do.
  • Forhekset · 5 months ago
    I don't see one moldline.
  • TSINI · 5 months ago
they don't show up on brail computer screens....
  • Zapp · 5 months ago
    Ahhhh funny.

I bet you thought of that one ages ago and wrote it down in your special book to use later, didn't you?
  • TSINI · 5 months ago
its an in-joke that i adapted for the masses... :D
  • Zapp · 5 months ago
    Well it worked for me!

Any more gems like that one?
  • Rhubardin 1st · 5 months ago
Looking at the closeups on the sponsons I can see a gap, that is likely indicative of a modification to allow you to quick remove or swap sponsons using magnets and such.

I did much the same with a few russes I have and it leaves a very noticeable gap when you get down to look at it. But it made building the sponson part easier.
  • Old_Paladin · 5 months ago
I like that they show a lot more 'average joe' modelling.
Not everyone that's into the hobby is a full-time pro.

They want to attract some youngblood or bring back the gamers that haven't seen plastic and glue for 10 years (which is good, if new people don't join the hobby will die).
People look at it and say, "hey, I can probably do something like that;" instead of looking at 'eavy metal stuff and thinking, "Jeez, that's too good. If that's what's expected there's no way i can live up to that; I guess i'll go play D&D mini's... at least they come prepainted."
  • evilamericorp · 5 months ago
It doesn't take a pro to clean up mold lines with an xacto knife, and get pieces to line up correctly. Look closely at the turrets on the new hellhounds and russes to see what I am talking about. This is a professional company with professional modellers and painters on staff, there is no reason to showcase shoddy work, especially in a sneak preview photo like this.
  • Gothmog · 5 months ago
Maybe a new hull so it doesn't warp as much
  • ZeeWulf · 5 months ago
    I honestly like that turret......
  • Myu · 5 months ago
I'm not sure about this one, the hull looks a lot wider then it used to, but the treads are the same.
  • crablezworth · 5 months ago
The weapons look like they're sticking out way too much. The heavy bolters look really boxy and don't have much detail.
  • Forhekset · 5 months ago
Yeah I think the turret looks really awkward. I liked the stubby looking old one.
  • bucho · 5 months ago
they are sticking to the old heavy flamer for hull mounts. :-(

the chimera has that same rubbish looking old one.

I am amazed at the quality of the builds they are showing off. (I agree they look a bit ordinary)

But good to see the options are going to be all there in plastic. Makes for a good reason to magnetize the tanks, thats for sure.
  • rexscarlet · 5 months ago
    Q)
Where is the "old heavy flamer bit" located on/which sprue in the OLD Chimera and Leman Russ box sets?
    A)
  • cnrr · 5 months ago
    A) It's the heavy flamer from the Vehicle sprue (the one with the 'dozer blade).
  • rexscarlet · 5 months ago
    EXACTLY!

To lazy to add it to the "new" sprues...

    Exactly...
  • bucho · 5 months ago
it was more a comment on the flamer is the old style in that it is two nozzles like the old SM heavy flamer. Unlike the newer style of flamer which is the one with the single nozzle with the pilot light.

It makes less sense to keep the old one now that they have updated the main flamer style of the hellhound.

Oh well, looks like I have found a use for any left over heavy flamer bits from the command squad box.
  • Raven0470 · 5 months ago
Do look really poorly put together doesn't it
  • static grass · 5 months ago
I am wondering if the sponson weapons need to be magnetized at all. They look like they fit quite snuggly into their sockets. I dont think it would take too much to mold a peg at the back of the weapon so that it stays in place.
  • Rook Riot · 5 months ago
Ok for the people complaining that the demolisher cannon is "pointed at the sky" take a look at the old (us) army CEV tanks with their demolition gun. The low speed shells they fire are lobbed more than directly fired. when we used them in training the safty radius of the round was 1000m (falling debris) but the gun's range is round 900m. the Russ demolisher is supposed to be the equivilant of that
  • fireball · 5 months ago
well, GW seems to like the old flamers for the Guard. mhhh, we'll have to accept it (or scratchbuild some good ones on our own).
I can't see a difference in the hull to the old one, but i never had a problem with the russ at all. Maybe that's why i have 15 of them in different variants.
I like the flat fat look of the turret. I added plasticard additional armor to the sides of my demolisher turrets, similar to the old GW version and kept the turret flat. It's just a cool look for a streetfighting tank.
Fine to see the sponsons with the 'new' heavy bolters, glad they made it into the box
  • 3BAC · 5 months ago
Judging from the changes, it looks like they've redesigned both the unique Leman Russ sprues for this kit. I've always thought the Leman Russ turret looked too far forward, but this one seems more so. I do like its lower, wider look though. I'm anxious to see more views, and the other variants.
  • Packe · 5 months ago
I really like the look on this one :P
But the heavy flamer is just... to much.. to long... it sticks out to much from the tank..
And the Heavy Bolters looks just lite the Baneblade one but without the ammo feed >.>
  • Blackmane · 5 months ago
very much liking the look of the new kit, apart from th old style flamer on the front, they should really update it
  • kirko303 · 5 months ago
I like it, kinda looks like the turret from a Centurion tank (although this one is more modernised). I seriously hope these become available online as a seperate bitz sprue, I can see myself making lots of barrel changes from my old russes and my scratch built vanquisher.
  • UltramarineFan · 5 months ago
I think they've over extended the heavy bolters on the side and the heavy flamer but apart from that it looks pretty good. Just need to see what the variants will be like seeing as I'm going take a punisher and an executioner. Also it will be fun to muck around with those spares ( heavy bolters, plasma cannons and multi-meltas? hehe)
  • TSINI · 5 months ago
apart from the base of the hull, the body is the same

quite like the new turret, although i hope its not copied onto the standard battle tank / vanquisher / exterminator / eradicator, i'd prefer the current (original) one for those

not loving the old style flamer, but then if theywant them this long, all we have to do is modify some ones left over from the cadian/catachan troops sprues, make them about the same length :) theyd look much better.
  • Lord_Summerisle · 5 months ago
I think it looks boring. I'm disappointed with this and the new Hellhound.
  • Jason Byles · 5 months ago
Not a big fan of the new HellHound kit, although this one I think is much better.

Don't like the Heavy Flamer, looks out of proportion somehow. (I don't have any Hull Flamers on mine so can't compare) Where's the Punisher sneak? I want to see something COMPLETLEY new for a sneak peak, not a re-hash on a old kit.
  • PenelopeTheWonderPony · 5 months ago
What's with all the hating?! I actually really, really like this- much better than the current stupidly narrow turret! Also it looks to me as if this turret is made for the basic Russ, then has a Demolisher cannon fitted- look at that raised bump on the top of the turret, just behind the mantlet for the Demolisher cannon. If looks like it should have a Battlecannon housed in it, like on this Forgeworld turret:
  • PenelopeTheWonderPony · 5 months ago
    That went wrong. Try again:
    http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/ryzalr.htm
The shape just doesn't make sense otherwise.
  • rexscarlet · 5 months ago
The IG must love to eat, because that is the largest Sundries box ever, which would mean the turret is still too SMALL.

How big is the round, and where does the breach go (it does have a hatch after all)?
Yes, I know if it was realistic, the barrels of the weapons would be to flimsy and prone to breaking, etc., but seriously, the turret is still too small for that big of a main gun.

    M10 turret interior;
    http://www.tankdestroyersociety.com/images/M10_...

    For scale purposes;
    http://www.asphm.com/projets/projet_m10_tank_de...
  • Old_Paladin · 5 months ago
The M10 is not a good armour vehicle to compare the demolisher to, as the M10 is a long-barrelled, high-velocity AT gun.
The Brummbar or Sturmtiger are closer (although unturreted).
The M8 has a similar look, small turret (but lighter gun).

The demolisher probably has a pretty short breach, as it fires a two-stage shell (and thus has little recoil).
  • Anonymous · 5 months ago
    I'm likin' it but...
Can you still buy a Leman Russ Exterminator for Space Wolves?
  • Justin · 5 months ago
I've seen alot of comments aout the sub standard assembly of the ne IG tanks by GW. Here is my theory: Its a marketing thing. GW's bottom line is sales, and perfect modeling/painting can be intimidating for new customers (what begginer hasn't been demoralized when they look at thier first attempt ccompared to the GW studio pics?) If the team at GW shows that there are flaws in thier work, then maybe the new customer wont feel so bad. Happy new customers turn into returning customers, and returnig customers means more sales.
  • helline9 · 5 months ago
Anyone think it just... isn't finished yet for massed production; there doesn't seem to be enough detail on the new hull parts (hand holds, head lights, etc), it's just flat panels?
Where's the dozer blade, are they getting new ones (a huge chunky vindicator like one would be awesome)?

I do like the new 'Ryza' style turret but i am very disappointed they used the ugly old design for the demolisher barrel, the forge world one (as an example) is so much better. All in all, like the new hellhound, i think the new demolisher is very cool, i know i'll be buying a few!
