Must be a pig to make - if even GW modellers have a massive line gap in the seams of 2 out of 3 variant cannons.
Gotthammer
It's actually the same tank - the weathering marks on the cannon and hull are the same (you can see two are numbered 65 also).
Hopefully the split there is just due to the way they've made it to make the nozzles interchangable.
I like the kit, and its thinner look - pity it'll be very pricey to make all my Chimeras like that.
slovak

Not a hard conversion though.
I've been cutting the side 'boxes' on my chimeras in half (sagitally) for the last couple years to reduce their profile a bit, it's an easy fix with a small hacksaw.

I love the fact that they include all the variants in one box. I like the look of the external tanks on my old hellhound more, but the new turret(s) looks better.
Dextro53
Yeah, I feel like they just look too....safe. I mean, the fluff has stated that Hellhound crews are generally complete pyromaniacs who'll do anything for just a little bigger flame. I kinda expected at least some options for huge tanks and obvious death traps. Hopefully there's something included in the box now shown for it.

Really? More ugly mold lines and gaps?
Who's putting these models together anyway? Way to make it look like a quality product.
TSINI
lol, someone in the GW office probably dictated they leave in the mould lines to make the "little timmy's" feel better
or maybe filling and sanding the gaps breaks rules on box-art, i.e as you can build it using only items from the box, glue and snips... seems silly not to try and do a good job of it though
Dextro53

Actually they just get Jervis' son to put their display models together now.

If they were going for little Timmy, they should stop painting stuff and glop on the super-glue. The mold lines and gaps are ridiculous.

It's right where the gun barrels begin, they're horizontal slits with large gaps and rough mould lines.
rexscarlet
But, looking at the "giant gap" on the barrel, one can see how easy it will be to switch the different weapons, since all three images are of the exact SAME model (note the weathering).
ROFL, the turret “still” cannot traverse all the way around without shooting the rear of the hull, just like the old model, LOL, at least they left that as an omage to the old model designer.
Nice shot of the parts they actually changed BTW (tanks), oh wait, they trying to build anticipation, right...
I do like the more "modern," less cartoonish look.

Would have preferred a massive Prometheum tank like Forge World variants. Looks good, though. The new side panels look great.

What's with the old-school heavy flamers? Does anyone seriously prefer those to the new ones?

As a Chaos player, yes. They look damn fine on my Terminators.
TSINI

lol, u have to ask why they updated the hellhound flamer nozzle and just ignored the hull one...
NIck
Yeah, that's the first thing I saw as well.
Why have the new flamer assembly on the turret and the old version on the hull?
Would it have been that hard to update the piece to one of the newer version?
Oh well, it gives me an excuse to convert it so it looks consistent with the rest of the model.
I like the new fuel assembly, but I would of preferred something more like the forgeworld one.
TSINI

my thoughts exactly, if i do go for any flamers on my tanks i'll be converting some newer nozzles on them.

I loved the ugly but functional look of the hellhound, I inclusive preffer it to the weird ultrabig forgeworld variant, it's way too cool too, but, seriously, with that huge promethium tank, it'd be more like a suicide car-bomb?
I really love the new hellhound, the devildog cannon is good looking but I agree with some... the banewolf nozzle looks like a super soaker
Engelus
actually, the promethium tank on the forge world ones looks very armored.
besides, just because it gets a hole punched in it, doesn't mean its going to explode, just leak fuel and possibly result in a weapon destroyed hit. :)
I'm actually glad its not like the forgeworld kits, because I like to run 2 FW hellhounds and one chimeracountsasbanewolf, when I get the new kit, the banewolf will look completely different.
Forhekset

Well now there's like 4 hellhounds out there, as I'm sure FW has at least two kinds. A nice variety :)

Bland, but far better than the old one. They totally phoned the banewolf and devil dog in though; that spray nozzle looks like you should use it to inflate a kiddie pool, and the melta cannon missed the chance to give us a really chunky BIG melta.
One thing I do love about it is the new sideplates. I'll take about a dozen please.
Xas
whats different about the side panels?
to me they look exactly chimeara like...
fireangel
The sideplates look like (and hey, it could just be the photo) they're roughly 1/2 as wide/deep as the old ones. Same exact shape, but they make the tank look less hippy, more 'pointy'
TSINI
they have some kind of hatch markings on the side, like access panels which the chimera doesnt.
and as said above, they look thinner also
TheGreatBeyond
The side sponsons ARE thinner and have new panel details. Expect these on the new Chimera as well when it is released.
faultie

Nice. I still prefer the FW one (which, it was claimed, this would look superior to), but it's still a lot nicer than the old kit.
TSINI
I agree, i much prefer the forgeworld version (particularly the one with the side-slung cannon, the centred cannon looks a little goofy)
i will continue my original plan to get the forgeworld hellhound, but if i did buy this kit, i would make the devildog, as it won't want a large promethium tank.
no_to_co

i like the FW one a lot for the Death Corps of Krieg, but this one fits my Cadians so much better. I like it a lot. I wish that GW would release a more detailed track sprue.
DuskRaider
I fully agree with you. When they released info about this one, they said it'd be better looking then the FW variants... which I don't see. Still a LOT better then the old one with its tiny gimpy promethium tanks. I may get a couple for the variants, but I already have 3 FW models so... yeah.

Soon you will be able to differ the old guard players from the new ones regarding the tank models they field. I think it is quite nice to have the old models, but I agree that the new hellhounds looks really sweet.
scotchjon
Personally I like the fact that the tank appears to be the same for all three variants right up to about halfway down the barrel... I can see some mini magnets coming in to play here, so that from three chassis I can take whatever I need each game :oD

I wanted to do the same thing with the new Bandeblade variants. The fact we only have one Apocalypse game planned, and Im a poor student, put me off :)
scotchjon

Having built a few of these things now, it'd be very easy to switch between Shadowsword and Banesword. It'd also be easy to switch beteen Stormsword, Doomhammer and Banehammer. All those just require different barrels.
Further switching is possible, but would take more preparation.

Upon first view, I didn't like the model when compared to the FW versions. Now that I have had a chance to ponder it, I am thinking that I can use the new kit as chimeras with turret/hull flamers and stick with the FW for the actual hellhounds.

I'm enjoying reading everyone's comments immensely. I was over on warseer and it was like I was in a room of 13 year olds. Oh wait I probably was.
I dig the functionality of the overall design. Up-armored around the back and fuel tanks, squat ugly turret meant only to offer the delivery system and gunner protection.

It's funny, as I was just talking to my friend today about how I was holding off on buying the Hellhound until the plastic kit came out, and now I see this! Reminds me of the awesome Forgeworld Hellhounds, which I was considering buying as well.

I'm holding one of my chimera's and looking at the hellhound pic, the turret & fuel drum has changed from the old hellhound as expected but what surprising me is the hull shape has changed. The the drivers section is now sticking beyond the tracks (yet the hull-gun looks like its in the same position), and the back section is more detailed on the side and is sloped at the rear. Other than the new, thinner, more detailed side armor, the track sections look exactly the same; what I'm thinking is that its actually built on the old chimera chassis with just a new roof section (basically like the way they did the basilisk). I bet most of the kit is exactly the same as the old one including the same dozer blade, tow cable, etc sprue. This i don't see as a bad thing, the turret & fuel sections where the only things that needed changing.

I like that it's going to be easy to swap between variants. The gun seems to be seperate to the turret attachment, so rather than fiddling you can just magnetise the end of the turret to the moving part.
Hopefully the split there is just due to the way they've made it to make the nozzles interchangable.
