Bell of Lost Souls: Arbites Conversion Part 1: The Arbitrator

  • faultie · 1 year ago
Not bad. I like the shotgun most.
  • Commisar_Xi · 1 year ago
I like. I did 10 Enforcers for Necromunda with Cadian and SM Scout Plastics. The conversions are simple and effective. I like the new book, its kinda a 'pointy stick, apply with finesse' army.

And there are pics of the army in the 'dex.
  • Fortis · 1 year ago
I'm not really sold on that conversion, it still screams cadian to me, I think mainly because of the exposed face. If I do some arbites I think I'd be using SM Scouts and Pig Iron Heavy infantry heads.
  • Joyous_Oblivion · 1 year ago
Fortis you nailed it!!! I was thinking the same thing. These would look very much like Arbites with those lovely Pig iron heavy infantry masks.

As they stand now, they look like cadians with the guns sliced off.

I hate to say it, but I think a better paint job would help a lot in conveying their look, as they look far too 'blah' right now to impress at all.

With that Pig Iron Idea I may make some of these guys now...keep them as Auxilaries in my guard if nothing else...

Just looked at the Pig Iron stuff, those heads are pretty darn good for arbrites. Just wondering though, how is the rest of their actual models in scale comparison to 40k? Becasue I really like it all and might use some it to start a guard, inquisition or arbites army if it's in scale.
  • Evernevermore · 1 year ago
Pig Iron heads work really good with the cadian mini. Im doing a whole army with Pig Iron Kolony Militia head.
  • Essayons · 1 year ago
What about the Forgeworld Elysian heads with respirators? It would give you the anonymous visored look that Arbites seem to demand.
  • Bigred · 1 year ago
The problem with Elysian heads is that at Forgeworld prices, you should just go ahead and get the Arbites squads from the Necromunda range and be done with it.
  • NGT · 1 year ago
You could use them to further differentiate elite units though. If you're using the BOLS codex the Storm Teams for example.

Come to think of it, you could also model the Storm Teams with Elysian grav chutes.
  • Moooooo! · 1 year ago
Hmm. This is pretty good. Need to find a better helmet, but overall, very nice work.
  • mr. bean · 1 year ago
nice arbites. the helmet looks like the Star Wars Imperial Walker Pilot helmet.
  • Shadoq · 1 year ago
    Good work.
I agree with other posters that a covered face would be better. Something dark and angry perhaps...
  • Parcival · 1 year ago
I'm sorry, Bulwark, but the proper singular for Arbites is Arbiter. Check this: http://www.archives.nd.edu/cgi-bin/lookup.pl?st...

    Good article. =)
  • NGT · 1 year ago
In 40k terms it should be Arbitrator. ;)
  • faultie · 1 year ago
    Yeah, Arbitrator.

Although Parcival is right, to an extent. There is a rank of Arbiter Senioris, which keeps with the latin (high gothic) of Arbites.
  • NGT · 1 year ago
Pretty sure it's actually Arbitor Senioris, at least in the Calpurnia novels.
  • faultie · 1 year ago
    Oh yeah. That's right. Thx.
  • Parcival · 1 year ago
Well, the Latin root of the word is very clear: it's one Arbiter and several Arbites.
Arbitrator is technically correct in Latin as well, so it may be used instead of Arbiter. However, the Romans would have used rather the proper noun than the substantiated present perfect.
  • Anonannoyed · 1 year ago
I thought Arbitraitors were the renegades?
  • zanzibarthefirst · 1 year ago
Its certainly a cost effective moethod, 20 arbiters for the price of a boxset of Cadians.

I've jsut tried to make myself an arbiter using the cadians and i'd didnt go as well as i had hoped. THe cadian head looks fine IMO, the main concern I have is the elbow and knee pads, when i done them, they turned out pretty naff. I'm gonna try using the SM Scouts with the Cadians heads and see how that goes, missing out the elbox and knee pads if i can help it. The scouts are supposed to have carapace armour any way.

There was an article on the GW website a few years ago (seems to have been removed now) showing converted black Templars Neophytes, where one person used the Cadian heads on Scout bodies. They turned out really well, very 'heavy' look (especially using the visored head from the heavy weapon kit). If you can, though, I'd suggest the respirator heads from Forgeworld. I think they'd work brilliantly.
  • zanzibarthefirst · 1 year ago
I've just found that article on the Oz site. Combine scouts with the BOLS style Cadian helmets and you have got a winner. I've got a few elysian heads without respirators and they'll be great for the storm team whilst the ones with repsirators will look great on a shock team.

Nicely done! How long did it take/fig?
  • Bigred · 1 year ago
Damn Fattdex, that Arbites sharpshooter looks HOT!

    Really stellar conversion.
  • NGT · 1 year ago
I remember seing the sniper on CMON. Excellent work.

Did you build them just for fun or do you plan an entire army?
  • Fattdex · 1 year ago
I was planning an entire army two years ago but it's one of those things that never got underway. I recently sold those models unfortunately!!!

It would be good to convert two or three helmets in this way with greenstuff and plastic rod, then to make resin casts. Then the rest of the modelscan be easily built from bits. You could sculpt one arbites logo to use as a shoulder insignia and make a greenstuff press of it, bob's your uncle, flash looking arbites.
  • Game Thug · 1 year ago
I think these helmets are a great compromise between ease of conversion and the actual Arbiter, Juge Dredd-inspired helmets.

    Arbites
    Dredd

The Pig Iron stuff, as much as I love it, doesn't even come close to this look. And all those suggesting Respirator Cadians/Elysians...where do you come up with this?

Yees, anonymity is a big part of the Arbites' look, but so is the exposed mouth/bucket helmet.
  • zanzibarthefirst · 1 year ago
respirators might not be look like arbiters but im sure when the gas starts flying around masks would be useful. Respirators would look especially cool on shock teams who like riot police are at the front linke closest to where all the gas is being lauched so they will want some protection formt he fumes.
  • Game Thug · 1 year ago
Space marines should wear helmets and Goliath gangers should wear flak vests.

Arbiters wear arbiter gear. We have templates for this, actual models. There's no need to hypothesize gas masked Pig Iron heads.

I'm not saying they wouldn't look cool, or that you shouldn't model them that way. I am saying criticizing someone for modelling Arbiters that look closer to Arbiters than Elysians is ridiculous.
  • heartbitt · 1 year ago
The catalog arbites, now looks like sorta Lord of the Rings ork integral helmet
  • Matt S. · 1 year ago
Arbites should be masked. It gives them more menace. The pig iron heads are perfect for that. I'd use the milita masks instead of the heavy infantry
  • TwoHeartsButOnly1Wound · 1 year ago
So I posted this in play aid section but It makes more sense to post here. Tasers!!! I think it would be very cool if someone did a taser conversion of the little hand held auspex unit GW includes on some blisters and then used it as a shock or power maul. ZZZZAAAAPPPP!!!
  • FraggedbyZero · 1 year ago
One could just use the Junkers from Void...or Urban War/Metropolis.
  • GW Person! · 1 year ago
For Heaven's Sake a member of the Adeptus Arbites is not an ARBITE - no more so than a Space Marine of the Adeptus Astartes is an ASTARTE!

Arbites has three syllables - AR - BI - TAY.

Those who form the Adeptus Arbites are Arbitrators or Judges.

    ANGRY LETTERS!
  • Brainburner · 1 year ago
Well my 17 man Arbite force (which I started the Day before Bigred informed us of this Mini-Dex's impending creation no less) has so far cost me less than $60 via evil-bay. But with the lack of weapons options in the older production run's and not haveing any of the newer Necromunda figures I am truly enjoying the shots of other's conversions.

Please keepthem comming.......and Bigred thanks for the tips on the Cadian's
  • UltramarineFan · 1 year ago
Actually you do hear the space marine referred to as Astartes so members of the Adeptus Arbites could be called Arbites.
