Bell of Lost Souls: Assault On Black Reach Apocalypse!

  • Don Lindsey · 1 year ago
I posted this elsewhere, but for the record....I have now purchased 22 copies of Black Reach...I plan to field a 15k apocalypse army using only the marines from these boxes (with a few upgrades ie. heavy weapons for the terminators and dreads) 4 techmarines and my warhound titan.

I have had a ball so far, and look forward to fielding a First Company, 4 ancients assault forces (5 dreads each), a masters of the chapter (using the captain figures) and 22 tactical squads with flamer and rocket....

The most important thing to me is that I would not have wanted to build this many standard models.....the simplified models in Black Reach have been fun and relatively quick to build.

I am also playing a completely Black Reach 1850 list for 40k.....91 marines....(6 tac squads, 2 devastator squads w/4 rockets, a vet squad using t

using the sgts from extra squads, and 1 captain.....I have been relatively successful with the list so far as there are plenty of troops to score and everyone is still figuring out how to kill 90 marines.

Sorry, I accidentally hit enter mid sentence.

    yay, first post.

As a comment, this is great, as these models are easy to assemble. This means instead of trying to find the leg sprues from a SM company box, you are trying to find a SM sprue. Much easier.

I wonder how many people will use an all AoBR army? you are missing some units, but still, 5 squads of termies (3 elites, and 2 HQ command squads!) and threee dreads, all in the same army!!! its like AC, but better (hint hint mkerr!)

Except that you cannot field Termie HQ command squads in the new SM codex. You can if you are fielding a DA army.

I can't wait to see an ancients assault force with all those dreadnoughts.

Thanks for reminding me. I've added it to the list above. I should have got out my Imperial Armour: Apocalypse book in the first place when I made the list.

Hmmm what a great idea. My local GW manager harps on this all the time to sell the AoBR sets. They even have a printed out list of exactly what you can make for Apoc with how many boxes of AoBR.

Being a player who has both an Ork army and a SM army I love the AOBR set but I haven't picked up the new Apoc. book and this is giving me a few more reasons to pick up a few more boxes. I just need three more to put me over 200 Boyz.

Reckon ebay would be cheaper and less wasteful (extra copies of rules) than buying multiple sets.

And I'm not keen on armies with troops in roguhly the same poses - anything ever going to be as flexible as RTB01? How many boxes would you buy if they had x20 Mk6 armour worth of RTB01 sprues?
  • abhinavjain · 1 year ago
you have any idea what the actual retail price is of all the models in AoBR??? it doesnt even matter that ur getting extra copies of rules - an extra rulebook is handy for a buddy who wants to play a game or if you lose ur first one.......

ur saving tons of money from that box...

Nothing will be as flexible as RTB01.

I would say that about 2 boxes worth of the space marines would be my limit for building up larger armies. Gives 2 squads of termis which when combined with 1 real box can make 3 5 man squads with 1 of each heavy weapon and a chainfist or two. Add a real dreadnought and then you can field up to three dreads with different weapons combinations. I would then get a devastator box and a 10 man tact squad to set up weapon and sergent options.

A formation that I would add is
4 boxes= 4 commanders, with a 'chapter master,' you can form masters of the chapter (Apoc. first book)

Also, I think that there was something about a drednaught formation, but I can't remember where it is and I don't have my books. It also might be on GW's sight. Something like "...of the ancients"

You can form 'Masters of the Chapter' with just the Tactical Squad: One Chapter Master (no upgrades), 4 Company Masters (no upgrades) and a 5 marine Command squad (no upgrades). AoBR gives the option of using the Terminator Squad.
    Cheers

yea, technically you could, but I would be a little peturbed if a buddy of mine slapped down 5 tac marines and called them the masters of the chapter. Id smack him and tell him to at least get commander minis, lol. But yea, you could do it that way if you want (thats the beauty of apoc.)

    Point of this post plz?

I wouldn't bother getting too many sets, myself. 60 bucks lets me get the other half of my 10 man terminator squad and another Dread... I'm already swimming in dice... and those sticks... man can ya ASK for a better weapon against cheesey opponents? The tac squad and commander might find a home amongst my already huge marine force. The orks... we'll see... might just sell em, might just work em up and buy some cheapey add ons to make em into a small army for other folks to use

Its realy great, since the new Blck Reach Box is released i was locking for a comment like this. Its very funny to read this article beqouse i use the apo sheets for the Geen Tide, the Killa Kopta Mob, Ghazghkull's Bully Boyz Mob and the Shock Attack Battery.
