And some fleets are a bit weaker, like Space Marines, but i have had success with them as well. Interesting enough, this is keeping in with the fluff (higher tech of Necrons and Eldars and that Space Marines aren't usually used for fleet actions)

Re: BFG: Admiral on Deck

Hi,
all official rules are on the GW site. Except the faq as said and the Rogue Trader rules. But the faq's on the most popular BFG site: www.portmaw.com

So, which 'official' rules are missing?

And you do know about this:

http://www.sg.tacticalwarga...

?

Re: BFG: Admiral on Deck

Maybe its because not alot of people played back when I did but it seemed like if you didnt play either Imp Navy or Chaos fleets you werent gonna do very well. I tried doing a space marine fleet but constantly got outclassed by the inexhaustible amount of cruisers Carriers destroyers and the such that the IN and CF can produce! Or maybe I just sucked at it!

Re: BFG: Admiral on Deck

Oh, and assault boats/boarding torps were godly. 3 or 4 hits from either tended to turn a cruiser into a weaponless hulk for several turns.

Re: BFG: Admiral on Deck

When I played way back on release it rapidly turned into 'Whoever has more fighter bays wins' and 'Eldar wins'. A significant bay advantage let you stand off, run away while picking off escorts, and then just swarm cruisers.
Did they fix that?

Re: BFG: Admiral on Deck

Of course I know they have lances etc, but I'm refering to tactical considerations. You can 2 battlecruisers moving towards each other blasting away and quite likely the 2 battlecruisers (assuming they maneuver to avoid torpedo launches etc) can move past each other before one of them takes severe damage. That means very short range tactics, effectively speaking you're at knife fight ranges at all times maneuverwise. I'd put it closer to civil war river gunboat duels than your typical WW2 surface action. This is reinforced by your typical "board edge" restrictions. Space doesn't have board edges.

Re: BFG: Admiral on Deck

Thanks for the response Fracas! Not hardly, the ranges are pitifully point blank range and for gods sake you have rules for boarding actions! While yes there were a few boarding actions during WWII if I recall they pretty much all involved seizing control of U-boats that had been forced to stay on surface due to damage. There were also very few actions that allowed gun armed ships to get within striking range of enemy carriers, one in the pacific and the sinking of the HMS Glorious in the atlantic if I recall were about it. If all surface actions started at about 8k meters then yeah, you might have an point, but no.

Re: BFG: Admiral on Deck

As far as conversions...I de-chaosed some of those models and use them as VERY old pre-heresy imperial ships that did not defect. So if anyone in the GTA wants to throw down, let me know.

Re: BFG: Admiral on Deck

The Demonships can "pop up" out of the warp, kinda like 40k deep striking.
