Bell of Lost Souls: Drop Pod Assembly Guide

  • BrassScorpion · 1 year ago
The new Land Speeder has be re-cut to make it easier to assemble. It also comes with all the variant options.

As for getting the doors on the Drop Pod to close, see my tip above about mold lines. Seriously, it's not a big problem.

    Hope that helps. Have fun.

I was just about to say 'where are all the space Marine articles?'
Well, I'm planning on saving up for Warriors of Chaos instead, seeing as i'm actually a CHAOS Space Marine player
Apart from that, i'm screaming in fanboyism for Kantor

Nice guide but ill probably go for the clearer example of seeing it made in front of your face at the weekend and, suprisingly, I'll be buying one at the same time.

I have just built two drop pods. The instructions are aweful. Both inadequate and actually wrong - bits are overlooked, notable the second set of safety bars which must be assembled before you attach the central frames.
  • baxter · 1 year ago
Started on mine last night. I did mine as a set of sub-assemblies, primed them and then paint them. I find that this works better for me and lets me do the paintwork quickly and then just some touch up where it needs it. Then hopefully I can get it done tonight and on the table for all of the group to see at the shop tommorrow, where we are having a 750 or 1000 point round robin tournament. Also got my Chaplin Dreadnaught finished for the Tournament as well.
Good luck in your games tommorow

In the nightmare present of the 21st century, my consciousness teeters on the brink of nothingness. The house spanning Dominion of Me is beset on all sides by malevolant taxes and heretic post. Only the strength of the (Possibly) Mortal Hobby of Warhammer stands between Boredom and its Happening. Dedicated to Its service are the countless artists, blog posts, and myriad models of the Hobby. Foremost amongst them stand the Chaos Marines, pantographed and plasticlly engineered to be the supreme painting force, the ultimate enticements of Mekind
Wars rage over countless tabletops, in the light, twisted depths of Hobby Stores and in the warm rooms between them. From the material realm of OTHER GAMES, malicious entities send their unspeakable minions to slaughter my chosen brain-cells. Everywhere, soulless price rises and slavering creditors are poised to extinguish the light of the hobby
There is no time for beer
    No Cocktails
    No good-games
    There are only GAMES

Glad you think so, since its the opening page to my blog 'BFC'

my drop pod defies physics and does not close i feel violated
  • BrassScorpion · 1 year ago
There are some mold lines on the bottom edges of the doors that can keep them from closing because they protrude enough to bump the floor of the Pod below them. Scraping those flat usually solves the problem.
  • Sixsystems · 1 year ago
If that little landspeeder is any indication of the caliber of suffering one has to go through to put this model together, I think I'll pass. Dont' get me wrong, it looks cool, but I am not interested in having a bloodvessel burst due to frustration. Already went through that with the old land raider crusader as well as the land speeder....
  • UltramarineFan · 1 year ago
The old land raider crusader was hell in a box!
I found the only hard part with the drop pod was the attaching of the trubine with the fin-things and the bottom of the drop pod, and I have problems with my doors closing.
  • Mr Stargod · 1 year ago
buying ? hell ill be sculpting more assymetrical alien races..
  • Veahirin · 1 year ago
When we put the one at our store together we had the same problem of not having the doors "shut,"
  • OptimusDerf · 1 year ago
Would have come in handy last night... thankfully I already knew about the doors so I got the magnets put in.

The kit has the unique distinction of being both the coolest looking, and one of the most complex models I've ever built. Now to buy and build at least five more...
  • OptimusDerf · 1 year ago
Also, glancing at GW's deally, I found it easier to attach the harness bitz to the command column and then glue the whole mess to the floor.
  • MadDogMike · 1 year ago
Yeah, they're full of it saying you can glue the center column in before the harness mounts (i.e. stages 6-7 on the linked page). The harness mounts have a tab that goes into the floor AND several bits that connect to the center column, you just plain CAN'T put it in if the center column is already glued down. I wound up attaching the mounts to the center (dry fitting to the pod bottom to ensure the result was angled properly) before attaching everything to the pod proper.

One other bit I did differently was in assembling the turbofan/sides. They suggest attaching the sides first, but I finished up the turbofan and placed it in the proper orientation to the door. Basically there are two "slots" on those engine detail pieces on the sides of the turbofan that the drop pod doors are supposed to connect into that makes them stay up better. I basically lined up the turbofan between all the doors and squeezed all the doors shut around it in the proper position, the "notches" holding everything in place properly. Then you could easily glue the side pieces at the top and bottom to hold the turbofan there properly. Much easier than trying to wrestle the turbofan in after attaching the side pieces would be.

I am going to get 5-6 I think, but not for my marines. Rather, they will be the pimped out drop pods of an Ordo Hereticus Strike Force! I have been waiting for these models to rock that army for some time now :)
  • Anon. · 1 year ago
Such an ugly, ugly, boring kit. Maybe it can be painted nicely, but it seems to me that you can't polish a turd.

I don't care how useful they might be, this kit is foul. Not Nagash foul, but certainly not to my tastes. I don't even think I could kitbash this.

My Marines will walk, incoming fire be damned.
  • Herald of Nurgle · 1 year ago
Agreed. I'd rather buy the Rhino for the same point cost and hope for Dawn of War deployment
The only reason I would use the Drop Pod is for transporting Dreadnoughts

    Don't steal my name
  • Herald of Nurgle · 1 year ago
Sorry about that. This is only a shortened version of what I would have normally put
  • Augie · 1 year ago
I think I'll continue scratchbuilding mine. Seems easier.
  • Dragonlv8 · 1 year ago
In relation to what Im buying, im actually going to GW for the first time in ages today, the shops having an Apoc battle.
Im going to buy the codex and some Chaos models?
A bit strange but meh =p
  • Sarpedon · 1 year ago
That helps a lot. I'm one of those people who rushes into a model, and ends up forgetting some detail, and having to do part of it over, so i'm especially grateful...
  • Me · 1 year ago
Anyone notice that there are five doors and only four of the chapter symbols?
  • Exocet · 1 year ago
I found that really annoying. I got two spearhead sets on release day, and had to swap some of my other symbols to get enough Black Templar symbols to cover the necessary 5 per pod.

I have some major issues with this "assembly guide." While I've been lucky putting mine together, aligning things correctly, I've seen many, many people mis-align the fan and get it off-center so the doors don't properly line up and close.

This is a big issue, and one that is only exasperated by asking people to simply glue in a few fins without checking the alignment and go from there. It's asking for trouble.

In terms of magnets, I'm curious where everyone else put theirs. I put matching 1/8 inch magnets on the right side of each door near the top, and in the side of each fin--seemed better than drilling into the engine details.
  • abhinavjain · 1 year ago
the guide that comes with the drop pod itself is badly put together - a lot of errors and omissions in it... that's why they had to put out an online version that was actually correct :) the online version is much better - more steps and more clarity and better pictures

Will a dreadnought fit into the pod? Are they going to make a special one for dreads?
  • BrassScorpion · 1 year ago
A Dreadnought will not physically fit in the Pod. However, that doesn't stop you from using it as a Dreadnought Drop Pod. I know I will be doing so! I seriously doubt there will be a separate model that actually fits Dreadnoughts inside. Forge World makes one and to allow for actual Dreadnought fit, it only has three very wide doors and a wider interior.
  • NikkeRonin · 1 year ago
I have found the forge world dreadnought drop pod to be unimpressive though. the one I got hardly fits together. In a way it is like a rhino fitting now 12 space marines
  • Zaarin7 · 1 year ago
It looks like the sub-assembly process is the way to go:

    Build wings,
    build doors,
    build turbine with weapon
build bottom with doors and center column,

Question for those who have done this, Is it better to assemble the restraints to there supports then mount that assembly or do it the way its shown?

Looking forwards to having a few of these. I wonder if WarStore will do a "Drop Pod on sprue" deal?
  • baxter · 1 year ago
I assembled the restraints subs then glued in the center control and then glued the completed asemblies into the base. The harness's assembly has a bit of play in it so they should fit right in. For the doors problem I took off all of the ribs on the base that would not show to make sure that it had plenty of space to pivot and Mine seem to shut just fine. On most of the others I will build them with the doors closed just for ease and speed.
  • Mustakrakish · 1 year ago
Did anyone notice that step three is in French?
  • UltramarineFan · 1 year ago
    There's no writing...
  • Xman · 1 year ago
This damned thing has now surpassed the Monolith as being the single most frustrating model I have ever put together. I have 4 of these damned things & am on number one. If there ever was a model that should come with a "Don't give to the kids" warning, this should be it.
  • beakie · 1 year ago
Getting the codex yesterday was a must, and I have been studying it closely with both of my marine forces laid out in front of me, starting to figure out some new, characterful lists.
I ended up pulling a few arms, etc. off, so making everyone legal is my next project. But I'm definitely leaning towards picking up 2-3 drop pods soon.
  • Grim · 1 year ago
5 doors 4 chapter symbols is that an oversight ? suppose I have to find someone to swap bits with now. My doors close fine just need to clean up all mold lines and assemble in sub units.
