5 doors 4 chapter symbols is that an oversight ? suppose I have to find someone to swap bits with now. My doors close fine just need to clean up all mold lines and assemble in sub units.

The old land raider crusader was hell in a box!
I found the only hard part with the drop pod was the attaching of the trubine with the fin-things and the bottom of the drop pod, and I have problems with my doors closing.

Getting the codex yesterday was a must, and I have been studying it closely with both of my marine forces laid out in front of me, starting to figure out some new, characterful lists.
I ended up pulling a few arms, etc. off, so making everyone legal is my next project. But I'm definitely leaning towards picking up 2-3 drop pods soon.

This damned thing has now surpassed the Monolith as being the single most frustrating model I have ever put together. I have 4 of these damned things & am on number one. If there ever was a model that should come with a "Don't give to the kids" warning, this should be it.

I assembled the restraints subs then glued in the center control and then glued the completed asemblies into the base. The harness's assembly has a bit of play in it so they should fit right in. For the doors problem I took off all of the ribs on the base that would not show to make sure that it had plenty of space to pivot and Mine seem to shut just fine. On most of the others I will build them with the doors closed just for ease and speed.

It looks like the sub-assembly process is the way to go:

Build wings,
build doors,
build turbine with weapon
build bottom with doors and center column,

Question for those who have done this, Is it better to assemble the restraints to there supports then mount that assembly or do it the way its shown?

Looking forwards to having a few of these. I wonder if WarStore will do a "Drop Pod on sprue" deal?

I have found the forge world dreadnought drop pod to be unimpressive though. the one I got hardly fits together. In a way it is like a rhino fitting now 12 space marines

A Dreadnought will not physically fit in the Pod. However, that doesn't stop you from using it as a Dreadnought Drop Pod. I know I will be doing so! I seriously doubt there will be a separate model that actually fits Dreadnoughts inside. Forge World makes one and to allow for actual Dreadnought fit, it only has three very wide doors and a wider interior.

the guide that comes with the drop pod itself is badly put together - a lot of errors and omissions in it... that's why they had to put out an online version that was actually correct :) the online version is much better - more steps and more clarity and better pictures

I found that really annoying. I got two spearhead sets on release day, and had to swap some of my other symbols to get enough Black Templar symbols to cover the necessary 5 per pod.

I have some major issues with this "assembly guide." While I've been lucky putting mine together, aligning things correctly, I've seen many, many people mis-align the fan and get it off-center so the doors don't properly line up and close.

This is a big issue, and one that is only exasperated by asking people to simply glue in a few fins without checking the alignment and go from there. It's asking for trouble.

In terms of magnets, I'm curious where everyone else put theirs. I put matching 1/8 inch magnets on the right side of each door near the top, and in the side of each fin--seemed better than drilling into the engine details.

Agreed. I'd rather buy the Rhino for the same point cost and hope for Dawn of War deployment

Yeah, they're full of it saying you can glue the center column in before the harness mounts (i.e. stages 6-7 on the linked page). The harness mounts have a tab that goes into the floor AND several bits that connect to the center column, you just plain CAN'T put it in if the center column is already glued down. I wound up attaching the mounts to the center (dry fitting to the pod bottom to ensure the result was angled properly) before attaching everything to the pod proper.

One other bit I did differently was in assembling the turbofan/sides. They suggest attaching the sides first, but I finished up the turbofan and placed it in the proper orientation to the door. Basically there are two "slots" on those engine detail pieces on the sides of the turbofan that the drop pod doors are supposed to connect into that makes them stay up better. I basically lined up the turbofan between all the doors and squeezed all the doors shut around it in the proper position, the "notches" holding everything in place properly. Then you could easily glue the side pieces at the top and bottom to hold the turbofan there properly. Much easier than trying to wrestle the turbofan in after attaching the side pieces would be.

Such an ugly, ugly, boring kit. Maybe it can be painted nicely, but it seems to me that you can't polish a turd.

I don't care how useful they might be, this kit is foul. Not Nagash foul, but certainly not to my tastes. I don't even think I could kitbash this.

My Marines will walk, incoming fire be damned.

The new Land Speeder has be re-cut to make it easier to assemble. It also comes with all the variant options.

As for getting the doors on the Drop Pod to close, see my tip above about mold lines. Seriously, it's not a big problem.
