The sprue they need to release is the Generic Building Sprue from the Cities of Death line. It's the one with all the floor panels. I don't think I've bought as many of the same thing as I have that sprue. When you could buy that, I must've bought 30+ of them. Such a useful sprue for huge buildings.

This is exactly the point GW is missing! You'll not likely buy the equivalent CoD Imperial Sectors to get the 30 sprues required. So it results in lost sales and thus lost profits. They think it is too much work for the money, it was a cost benefit ratio consideration. But they misunderstood the benefit factor and focused on the cost factors. In the long run what is good for the hobby is good for sales! You mean to tell me the huge secondary market for bits isn't making money! GW should only have strangled, or attempted to strangle out that secondary market when and only when they were geared up to replace that revenue opportunity. GW should thank Battlewagon etc. for the revelation that there is a market for this stuff.
BTW plastic sprues are and should be cheaper than metal. If they are selling off the metal stuff to clear inventory then so be it. But if they jack prices of the plastics bits when the metal bits run out then that is lame. In most cases the plastic sprues are already made as needed.
Having said that I am glad they are slowly but surely getting back to bits sales. Also as was said I think the PDF catalogue is the way to go. I know I bought many bits over the years but NEVER bought a catalogue. There was one in the store! I NEVER had to buy a Sears catalogue.

MY ONE WISH FOR XMAS IS THAT GW BRINGS BACK THE ABLITY TO BUY ALL AND ANY BIT U WANT. WHEN THEY TOOK THAT FROM US I RELIZE THAT FINALLY THEY GOT NOTHING BUT JACKASSES IN CHARGE.

More power to the indy retailers that offer plastic bitz and sprues (bitkingdom being my current favorite). GW recently updated the indy retailer contract with wording that they can't open boxed sets and individual components, so you won't see any new stores offering bitz anymore (unless they go thru one of the rare 3rd party distributors).

Can you clarify that a little. Are you saying that Battlewagon Bits, Bitkingdom, etc can't/won't be selling frames/individual pieces anymore? Or is it for new retailers? Are the existing indy retailers grandfathered in, or do they all have to re-sign under the new terms at some point?

I'm assuming that it only applies to new retailers, as Bk and BWB are still selling components. Pure gues though, I don't know how GW's contract policy would work for existing retailers.

BrassScorpian I think they are offering all the metal bits they still have in inventory and when they run out of them then they will offer the plastic sprues. Remember the old 2nd Ed days. When the new figs for this or that troop type came in they offered grab bags of the old figs to clean out their inventory.

grab bags will NOT return, I will bet on that. GW has been pinching pennies, they rarely offer freebies anymore (I'm still annoyed that they stopped throwing in arms or shields).

I'm sorry AP, the point I was trying to make is GW is trying sell all the metal bits they already have in inventory before they start offering plastic ones.

I think we should recognize that this is a pretty significant step for a company that seems bound and determined to bankrupt itself and alienate its customer base. The fact that GW has recognized that there's nothing to be gained by charging for the catalog is huge to me (think of another company that does that ... a really big company ... it's hard to do, right?).
So while I love to b*tch and moan about GW, having just skimmed the 2 PDFs, I say 'well done' ...

All I want to know is WHERE ARE MY JETPACKS!!!!
I like the new Raptor Jetpacks better than those wings. I have an old Vet Squad that need jetpacks to become Vanguard - without a major re-tooling. I want my Legion of the Damned bits back I haven't purchased a dang thing from GW proper since they took away my bits to convert into what I want. Now I only buy/trade for units that I can put together the way I want. No point at this time to buy direct from GW without proper bits.

I honestly can't understand why GW don't 'break boxes' themselves. Who amougst us would buy extra sprues? Extra Razorback weapon options, SM vehicle accessory sprues (can't get enough storm bolter bitz now) the commander weapons sprue, JUMP PACKS, Predator turrets, the list goes on.
I realise that some of these my cut a little of GW's profit, but I think we're at the 'acceptance' stage, where we realise that this would cost way over the odds, and will still pay because there is little other choice! And there is also the 'fairness' angle, as a poster mentioned above, what are we meant to do with our series 1&2 Veterans if we can't get the Jump Packs seperatly?

They Can't. When you're a publically traded company, you can't do anything that can "cut profits". GW's legal responsibility to their investors is high priority than gamers.

"cut profits" Hmm, not sure I agree with you on that one...
I for one am MORE likely to use a bitz retailer to pick up jump packs than to buy 2 kits of Assault Marines @ £30 just to make the Veterans I've already bought & painted viable in-game.
Same goes for the Razorback weapon, a few quid + delivery Vs. £20 + tank I don't want/need, and as for the SM Vehicle Accessory Sprue...GW already sell the Chaos, Guard etc. versions, so I honestly don't see why the SM is different...
That's the only point I was trying to make - GW already do this in certain circumstances, so why not more generally?

Plus it is all about up selling, if GW knows you'll spend between 10 and 15 bucks for jet packs, they know eventually you will just splurge and grab a box of assault marines.
Smart business.....

Actually I woun't. I'm a stubborn cuss who would rather trade to get them instead of actually buying a box of this stuff. I've waited over 3 years for select bits to show back up as saleable when I could purchase a box and get a handfull of them sooner. I've salvaged Jetpacks off of older models (5 turbofans for example) that simply do not fit in the army, instead of purchasing new ones.
There is no way in <Heck> I'm spending 90$ to get 10 jetpacks for my Raptors. There is also no way in <Heck> I'm purchasing new ones to replace the ones I've already got. On the other hand. I'd be willing to shell out 15-20$ to replace those jetpacks, that is no different that shelling out 1$ a shoulderpad for certain squads.

Hmmm what someone said about indy retailers not being able to open boxes and sell the individual bitz is a load of crap, unless they do it themselves. I dont want to go buy an assault squad to make my chapter master have a jump pack.
Well we will see what they do in the future.

i wasnt aware that plastic cost more than metal! rly... i honestly prefer plastic over metal any time there much easier to work with but metal do get a better finished once u painted it
AP

Plastic material is cheapter than metal, but making the moulds for plastic is very very expensive. It's only worth making plastics for models that will be bought in bulk. Thus, troops choices are usually in plastic (people will buy a lot of them) but special characters are metal (people will buy 1 max, if any at all).

As usual, GW's moronic cutting of the bitz service, saying it will be back later, was completely a waste of everyone's fucking time.

As a fairly new player (about a year) I haven't much of the knowledge of what GW offered before, so forgive me If what I am about to describe is something that GW used to offer. What I think GW needs to do now is make a new accessory box set for "generic" Space Marines with what would be necessary to provide all the options allowed under 5th edition for all the basic squad types. My suggestion would be a single sprue of heavy weapons from the devestator kit (lascannon, plasma cannon, and heavy bolter), a single sprue of five jump packs and chest plates from the assault kit, and a brand new sprue of "special" sergeant weapons such as right and left hand powerfists, right and left hand lightning claws, power swords/axes/mauls/glaives, a multi-melta (yes, I know, it isn't a sergeant weapon), a relic blade, a thunder hammer, a storm shield, a stormbolter, a couple of boltguns with slings, terminator honor shoulder pads, MK 8 helmets, a few new bare heads, and a pair or two of SM legs. With just the one new sprue, only limited retooling would be necessary. GW could offer this for $20 a box and most marine players would eat them like candy off the store shelves.
