This is the only comment I've ever heard in support of the screw top paint jars. The problem with those, and I have talked to many other painters who agreed with me on this, was that the slightest bit of paint you'd get on the rim of the jar would dry so that the top would never close air tight any more and the paint would dry out very quickly without constant checking and adding water. Pop tops, every one of them GW has ever made, have been better, at least for most people. What makes the current ones great is that they are also easy to open, something the old pop-tops never were. It's especially good I'm sure for younger modelers, people with small or weak hands or arthritis, etc.

Ugh. Until the paint dried and then you couldn't get the lid off at all! I threw more of those pots away than any other. I like the current ones (not the foundation ones) - much easier to open, and rarely dry up.

The propellant cans sold by GW allow you to spray quite a lot of models for the $8 per can based on info I've had from a friend who tested it out. However, if you'd like to get a compressor, there are ways to do it at half price or close to it.

In the US, Michael's and AC Moore craft stores also sell air brush equipment and regularly have 40% off and 50% off one item in the store coupon promotions. That would be another great way to get a compressor and even an airbrush sort of cheap-ish.

The spray gun was recalled, hence its disappearance for several months. Problems with it have been fixed. The spray gun available now reflects those modifications and improvements.

I want to know when they are going to start selling the foundation whites and blacks individually. I want a good white paint, and I've used the that one... it is really good for white base or cover coats, but you have to buy the whole freakin set just to get white (and black). Can you be bigger swindlers, GW? The cynic in me is hard to ignore when it looks so obvious that they are trying to make me buy the whole set to get at the thing I know they want. This is their tactic for things like powerfist bits though, so I guess it isn't a suprise.

I am new to the game, about eight months, and my first experience is with both together. I am not brand new and not an old timer. I like the citadel paint pots over the foundation because they stack more easily and I paint the color on the lid so I can quickly identify them. The old paint pots have a recessed lid and the color swaths are protected better. Though I find the white makes for brighter colors and thus more visible. About the waste of paint I think the old are actually a bit more wasteful but marginally.

Shop for a good compressor on ebay, with 8$ a can it quickly pays off.

It may be only $30 for the gun, but im sure they’ll charge a heap for the disposable cans needed to propel the paint.

I have seen the article on GW's site that talks about using the spraygun, but it only mentioned it being used with the foundation paints. Is there any way to use the regular paints in it? How about the metalics and coverage with them considering you have to thin them to go through the gun.

Am I the only person who isn't a big fan of the new pots? I find a lot more of the paint goes to waste as it gets stuck in the lid and surrounding areas.

From what I recall, in June of 09 is when ALL the citadel paints are to be in the foundation style pots, so I would wait till then to get a mega paint set.
