Someone earlier brought up the excellent point that this is exactly how the pharmacuetical companies work.

I think you are the one who may not understand how businesses work. If American consumers will pay more then make them pay it. If Canadian consumers cannot afford as much, then operate with a lower profit margin in Canada and use the high profits from the US to offset it. Lots of corporations work this way: Division A operates at a loss, Division B operates with high profits - but the corporation needs both Divisions in order to be competetive. In essence, Division B is subsidizing Division A.

Please help yourself to an economics textbook when you get the chance.

Memphis has manufacturing, and that is where all of Canada gets product from. The Canadian warehouse closed about 2 years ago. They used to ship from UK to Canada, and then out. Now if you order from GW Canada, it just comes right from Memphis.

Yeah, I've been down the ebay road with excellent results. Another good place is Great Canadian Miniatures from British Columbia, they sell most of the stuff at 30% off, although I don't know how this price change will affect them.
Not sure about the posting links policy here, but copy and paste to Google and they're top of the list.

Ouch... is there a reason why it'd cost that much more? I'd figure with the unified currency it would be more in line with the pound than the dollar.
You would be a better served ordering it on the net from a discounter or from an ebay merchant (wow I do keep harping on that). I've saved ridiculous amounts of money that way. Paypal all the way, though. Protects you far better than some of the other bidpay setups

You should look on ebay if you can stomach the risks. I've been able to pickup brand new things from the folks who get unboxed orders from GW direct (best guess is they setup a merchant account, get a ton of stuff and either close shop in a few months or something). I've had good luck and for around 600 bucks US i've probably bought around 1200 retail. Best advice if you do go ebay is get paypal for the protection it offers. Every single dispute I've had has ended with me getting my merchandise or getting my money back.
Oh and find the merchants with the free shipping... that saves even more off the tip end.

If you read it right, it's both combined. It sounds more like they're bringing mail order warehousing more local so canadians don't have to pay for the shipping from the US and then local shipping. Haven't been able to find out if they've actually built a manufacturing facility yet but I'd wager there's something coming. Same thing happened for the US when they built the manufacturing plant here.
