What do you mean "next"? After Space Wolves? Imperial Guard? Or right away?

it's great news the new dark eldar range has been confirmed, just a shame it'll be at least a year or 2 before it's out though, and you can tell from the interview his favorites are the eldar, so he's definitly going to do something special for the alter ego's :D

Ouch. One year, possibly two....

I was concerned that they'd stopped doing these, as there's been a huge gap since the previous one, but this was very good- Jes obviously still has lots of enthusiasm for the job and it;s just a shame there wasn't time for an even more in-depth interview. I could have quite happily sat here and listened while he went through the whole eldar range, quite frankly.

Wow, i didn't realise they did pod-casts. This latest one was really good. It's nice to see how armies and races as a whole are created, and the time it takes to do so.
From that pod-cast, I think I now understand why SM seem to be updated and added to more regularly; not only because they are the most popular armies but also because of the amount of templates and parts they already have to use. Hopefully that might finally put to bed the criticisms of people who feel SM are done too often and their own armies not so much. Dark Elder are in the pipeline! But for races like DE whose whole range need to be completely re-done, will take a lot longer then simply bringing out a new squad of SM. I for one can't wait to see the new Dark Elder.

I really can't look on this as good news. Dark Eldar are 'next'... in one or two years? Seriously? It seems like every few months this project is put back by a few months. Weren't Dark Eldar once touted for this year?... then early 2009, then late 2009, now late 2010. *buries face in hands and sighs in exasperation*

Just occurred to me... What are we getting in the meantime? Well, Imperial Guard, and Necrons probably, (yay!) but apart from that?

I hate podcasts, you can't skim over it until you get to the parts you want. I'll settle for reading the comments.

I absolutely love the "ziggy stradust" eldar in the sketches you've included above. That's class.

I remember those sketchs i think they are from a first edition book the compendium wich had blood angels fighting genestealer on the cover, but it maybe from first Elder Codex in 2nd edition. The pictures that featured in 'Ere we go'which was a first edition ork book, are still some of my favourite (thats back in the day when orks could be equipped with exploding legs)

I am also try to place those sketches. I think I might have seen them in a really old white dwarf (1988-1990) which would be funny since I had all of 3 issues from the time for Blood Bowl and Dark Future articles.
Moj

i just remember the compendium because i had it, and they still use some of the pics that were in it like the dire avenger in the current codex. Also farseers had random stat line and it had rules for genestealer cults and the cults limo's. i think i would buy them just for the art if they resold them today. plus reading the rules for mad boyz and bad docs were so funny. i think madboyz had 7-8 pages of rules for themselves.

They are from the original White Dwarf Eldar list/article that were reprinted in the yellow Compilation book many many moons ago. Yes the one with the Blood Angels Genestealers fight on the cover.
Oh the memories. My first army. I miss the doomed, guided, laspistol. The eldar version of the Commissar laspistol.

I think you're right. IRC, they appeared in the White Dwarf issue that had the army list that introduced the Aspect Warriors (well, the first six types anyway), Farseers, Avatar, Warlocks etc. for the first time. WD129 or something like that?
They might have appeared an issue or two before that as teaser art but it was about that time anyway. Man, I remember far too much of this stuff...

Remenicing 1st & 2nd edition. A new Blog maybe. I think each race and the rules could have a blog each. i think i tried to collect almost every race back then. GW must have fond memories as they have included stands etc at the Gamesdays this year.

Wait! What about all the other stuff before them? Necrons are next....no wait guard are next...no wait I heard from a guy with a "reliable source" that woves are next....waitt GW scrapped them because they were'nt family friendly.....I thought squats were getting the redux per Jervus.....Oh now I'm to tired of rumors to care.

Jes probably meant what HE was working on next. Remember, he's involved in the concept and production planning stages. His GW world runs about two years ahead of ours.

This is what I think too. However, he can't say that for some idiot reason.

'family friendly' heh... right....
Anyone ever notice how chaplains no longer have the right to HATE foul xeno-species ? Nope... now they only chant the 'litanies of battle'....
Effing eff..... In the grim darkness of the far future there is only E-rated games.

I have good expectations of the dark eldar re-vamp after Jes Godwin is redoing them just like what he did to the space marines you all know and love

Why is it that we get good news, and people bitch,. moan and complain about it? *sigh*
Personally, I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with the DE.

I'm not really bitching about the dark eldar, just hate the online world of rumor-mill fun.
Sure redo the dark eldar and make them awesome. Yet to tell people "next" and then let them rumor everything up is silly.
Why not just tell us the truth? Why not say..."I'm working on them next." or " They are next after the following releases."
Nope instead we are given cryptic info, becasue they have to protect something, we can't handle the truth, they aren't sure what is next or afraid their nexxt won't meet some deadline.
I hate speculation and cryptic info. It just leads to silly rumors on the interweb.

Jes Goodwin is fantastic. He's really the whole reason GW is still awesome and not wacky. Look at how many different and amazing races he's created. I think his artwork is fantastic too. I hope they pay him insane amounts of money.

well, it is great to have confirmation that he is halfway through the range.
And 'next' is always subjective, as the IG stuff is either done, or gone down the line from his hands. Same with the SW stuff, that may have been done by one of the other guys, OR is just a few plastic sets (like DA) and some metal stuff done by some other sculptors. Remember Jes is head of plastics now, so unless it is a special project, you wont see him doing anywhere near the amount of metal he once did.
But knowing he is sorting out the range for DE, I am very happy. And I would love to see the revised jetbike set he was working on done up to replace the current one.

Those sketches are from WD 127..... the first time aspects were in 40k. There is a "codex" feel to the army list as well.
eriochrome
They are in fact from WD 124 (april 1990) page 31. It was a preview concept art for the army list in issue 127. By strange fact I have both those issues in my massive archive of 3 old white dwarfs. 124 is a dark future character system for the cover while 127 has a dragon rider cover but had the first epic squat list for the space marine game.

Does anyone else feel that Jes's original Eldar aspect warrior sculpts are way better than what they're putting out now? (I guess I'm particularly referring to the Banshees and scorpions) They just have so much more life and feeling than the current sculpts. (put simply: the old ones are beautiful.)
