Im tired of hearing that they are pushing Dark Eldar further back in the name of "doing them correctly" My second edition (which was the wych weapons and vehicle upgrades) book was published in 1998 and the reason they have done so poorly is because they have never received any support from GW. They have a method of play. They are fast (in 5th they need to be made faster to counteract the run rule.) They are fragile, So fragile so that they need to be able to consolidate into other groups or they will die as wyches have a 6 armor save and warriors have a 5. They need to be made less expensive (Vulcan is 190 points and celestine is 205 and guess which one is a lot better, that means that everything from here on out needs to be cheeper or we'll just assume jervise hates anything not in power armor) they need to kill hard and die just as hard. They need more troops and they need to fix the broken units (talos, scourges) and make other units more usefull (mandrakes, warp beasts) Most of all i want actual heros that mean something, Lilith was a step in the right direction and so wa the dias but kruelga?
Finally push that codex out and do a slow model release because we are DOA right now. Too expensive to do horde and we die without consolidate. stop pushing this army back. If its not out in 2009 there are serious issues with GW.

I'd rather wait a little longer knowing that the codex is going to be done right than them put it out when it wasn't ready. I mean, look at the Chaos codex, they could've done with abit more time spent on that... or just not give it to Gav Thorpe to write.

I have the 2nd DE codex. The only thing changed from the 1st codex and 2nd was vehicle upgrades and heroes and wych weapons. It is from 1998. They have had enough time. We need it more than the necrons. Finish our codex do 1 or 2 models and release them slowly like every codex they are doing now. We need to be faster then every other army, hit harder and die faster then everyone else. the reason they have done so porly in sales is directly due to GW abandoning them for 20 years. As happy as I am to see that IG are at least on the horizon, I really don't think that GW needs to wait 6 months after the Space Marine book to release them.
Also, I hope they actually get decent treatment last time. For some reason, after the black book list, GW (and FW) has had this insistence that anything Imperial Guard related be poor-mediocre in terms of table power and cost-efficiency, save for the Apocalypse-only Baneblade (which was actually rather terrible as well for its cost until GW put out a plastic kit of it and re-wrote its FW rules for Apoc)
In case you can't tell, I am looking forward to February... although, as is increasingly common for me, I'm looking forward to the Ork stuff, Guard releases... even the Necrons. The only things in there I don't really care about are the Daemons.

Puppies are silly for now... several things just don't make sense (half their armoury refers you to C:SM rules, half of which have been removed: bionics, wolf totems, wolf helm of russ etc)
Some things are just absurd... like getting a SM thunderfire for 100pts while an Iron Priest is 110 just with a servo harness (and can only take the useless thralls)
On the other side of the spectrum SW can have 3 HWS in a 5 term unit, can put storm shields and can create some unholy combos... eg a WG bodyguard with storm shield and combi-flamer (since true-grit) and runic charms (re-rolled armour save) at 40pts each... just imagine 9 of them jumping out of a drop pod

My question is are they releasing a new IG codex in may, or is it just going to be the new plastic models?
Also, why the heck hasn't the Space Wolf codex been at least confirmed at this point. As a Dark Eldar player, I can emphasize with the Space Wolf player's pain, and can understand why GW would want to push DE to 2010, but the Space Wolves have always been one of the most popular (codex-variant) armies.
Necrons do need a new codex though, and they especially need someway to transport their troops, or teleport onto the battlefield, especially with the effectiveness of the SM drop pods.
Steve
Necrons need a new transport? have you not see a monolith or 3 in action..? - deep striking wherever they want; moves troops outta its way (like drop pods should), can hold entire armies, has more weaponry then a land raider crusader, always counts as not moving for disembarkation and can never be glanced to destruction... sounds like the best transport in the game to my ears
Give necrons a few shiny units to add some diversity and they would be immense, only problem they have atm is they are utterly boring
... if you don't believe me just imagine this: teleport a squad of flayed ones from 24" behind the monolith, they disembark 2" infront, move 6", assault 6" (add in the monoliths thickness and thats about a 44" charge!!)
NeilBrimelow
I am fully aware of the many ways to use the Necron's teleport abilities with the monoliths and other ways. However, I was referring to something along the lines of a teleport grid that could be used with or without a monolith.
I was thinking of a "drop pod" esque large crystal, that would serve as a method of local teleportation once deep striked in. I.E. the necron player would deep strike the drop pod sized crystal and then be able to teleport his necrons anywhere within 12 inches of that crystal, and/or be able to link those crystals together for local teleport.
Of course any such addition would go along with a total revamp of the necron codex.
Starion
Kinda like the Nec's DoW ability to teleport basic warriors (and Lord, iirc) from building to building? Nice idea, but that'd be a serious revamp of points cost. I already think they're too good for the points cost as is. Marine-like stats (apart from Initiative), 3+ save, followed by one or two 4+ WBB rolls, and a basic weapon that can glance any AV (granted, given enough shots - but 20 'cron squads help). Mebbe I'm jaded it's just been bad luck on my part, but I've never yet once won against Necs. Got to within 1 model of my opponents phase-out once.
NeilBrimelow
IMHO, Necrons are going to be the toughest army to beat in 40k. In an 1850 point game, you can run 80 warriors, a Lord with Res. orb and Destroyer body, and a monolith. Sure, it's possible to get the Necrons below the necessary minimum for phase out, but it's damn hard.
Steve
only lascannons and vindicators can kill monoliths (for marines- no end of glancing can ever weapon destroy it) and it should take an average of 27LC shots for every kill!! (27*2/3hit*1/6pen*1/3destroy=1) Take 3 monoliths and mebbe a c'tan in 1500pts and you'll beat marines evry single time as long as you can avoid a phase out
and yes I do suffer from 'cron jealousy
UltramarineFan
It's true, monoliths are so hard to destroy it's just not true. Though nest time I face them I' m going to use all the THs I have......2! oh well lets hope I get lucky with six S8 attacks. btw you don't need to penetrate getting enough immobilised and weapon destroyed results will do.
Steve
Not quite- a weapon destroyed just take 1 attack a turn off the gauss arc... so 6WD will stop it from firing but there's nothing that says its then destroyed and can't suffer a 7th weapon destroyed as normal.
But even assuming it can be weapon destroyed it'll still take 8 'damage' results to destroy the darn thing.. or about 36 turns with 2 TH :'(

I say just be excited for what's coming down the pipe. All of it is exciting stuff for someone. Everyone gets so worked up. My 1st string army is Dark Angels, 2nd string is Orks, and 3rd string is IG. So in the next 6 months or so there are more things being released than I can afford to purchase or have time to paint, and I'm pumped.
I don't play Lizardmen, but I'll be excited to see the plastic Steggadon. I don't play Daemons but my friend started work on Daemon 40K army that's still in its fledgling stages and it'll be fun to see him put together some new models, and I'll be really stoked to see what they do with the Necrons - just because they are a cool army that just need a little bit more personality and variety.

My shopping list based on these rumors:
- Valkyries for my IG Army. - Plastic Shadowsword to support my Chaos Marines and balance out the FW hybrid Shadowsword I have for my Imperials. - Plastic Stormlord for my Imperial forces (already scratch converted one for Chaos). - Plastic Stegadon to be used as a "counts as" Rhino for my Chaos Marines. I love dinosaurs and monsters and it would be too cool seeing Chaos Marines riding such a beast into battle. - Plastic Stormtroopers. I already have one unit of metal ones and I'd add at least one more if they were plastic. - Plastic Daemon Prince because I collect such monsters and a plastic one that is easy to convert too is a must. - At least one set of plastic daemons for any models that have only been done in metal up till now. - Necrons maybe if there are some cool new plastics. I already have an untouched secret stash of some of the current plastics thanks to bundle deals and I'd add to them if the price was right with more units moved to plastic and an exciting new Codex.
I hope I do well at the next Bizarre Bazaar because there's a lot of good new product coming in 2009.

No date on that yet. Like the Land Speeder Storm, it will probably appear in a "2nd wave" of releases for Space Marines several months or more down the road.

It s Latin for 'Let the buyer beware"'.
Used in English it means that a purchaser of goods should check them before parting with any money - alternative "sold as seen".
In this context, it means that this is only a rumour that may not be true, or entirely true so you should 'take it with a pinch of salt'.
Hope that helps, John

Really? That would be brilliant, but i can't see it myself. There seems to be a rather full schedule for 2009 already, plus it has been previously mentioned on BOLS that all other 40K codicies should be finished first. Don't know quite what to think at the moment, but after we had a new Chaos codex in late 2007, i doubt that they'd give us another so soon (even with the changes of 5th). It's a shame but i reckon 2010 will be more likely. Sorry if i seem to have shot you down but that's my opinion - if you do have evidence to support an 09 release than i apologise and will get rather excited.

Those should keep me busy if SW codex is in the far future..
I was planning on doing the same with an armoured closed in howdah as a Chimera for my side army death world IG force. At least I will when I finish painting the comtents of Black Reach to start a new Waggh with, ETC, January, just in time for the second wave of Orks...
Also want to do Cold one rough riders and Carnasaur 'tanks', eventually, lol.
I thought that meant the new one was coming soon but all I hear from the store staff is that its coming; first heard December 08 and now hear April 09 earliest
:'(
let's hope it will be good
FORTH THE WALKING CARPET!!!!!!!
Personally, with 5 AOBR Dreadnoughts available to me, I'm considering converting an Ironclad variant from one of those. Ironclads have a few different weapon options and some of them should be fairly easy to build using bits.
Also upgrade on the IG will be something to look forward to.
However Space Wolves & D Eldar are WAY overdue.
I guess an update to BA, DA, BTs & DH could be done via WD entries like they did with BAs.
Used in English it means that a purchaser of goods should check them before parting with any money - alternative "sold as seen".
In this context, it means that this is only a rumour that may not be true, or entirely true so you should 'take it with a pinch of salt'.
Hope that helps,
John
Don't know quite what to think at the moment, but after we had a new Chaos codex in late 2007, i doubt that they'd give us another so soon (even with the changes of 5th). It's a shame but i reckon 2010 will be more likely.
Sorry if i seem to have shot you down but that's my opinion - if you do have evidence to support an 09 release than i apologise and will get rather excited.
I can see GW giving prioritized attention to Chaos, they are just a spin off of their flagship Marines anyways ... right?
Also the UK Games Workshops have all recieved samples of battlewagons, stormboys, grots, nobz and Zagstrukk so ask you local guys and they will probably be able to show you whats there.
Ive just built the stormboys in the Staines store and we are gonna be building the battlewagonm this week.
Aslo there is nothing for WFB or 40k in April.
