Interesting article. How does this list compare with a Khorne list? It seems to be pretty similar to the Khorne list showed earlier.

I think Fiends are hands-down about as good as it gets in the Elites section. They've the volume of attacks (at 5 per Fiend), the Strength and Rending to actually take down a lot of the stuff that gets in the way of Daemons. The only con they've got is that SOMEONE forgot to give them grenades.

Keepers of Secrets are pretty tidy greater daemons; though I'd probably slap Unholy Might on there to beat down vehicles more and help out. Soporific Musk helps with them, but the bigger problem is that they're 'only' T6 with a 4+ save, so they're the least durable of the Greater Daemons.

I also concur that a Slaaneshi Daemon Prince is pretty much a Keeper-lite. They can ping-pong through enemy troops with Hit 'n' run, AND they remembered to bring grenades. Still, it's T5 and can get drug down small-arms fire and the like. Armor's important to 'em, as is Unholy Might.

I think Daemonettes are highly 'meh' as troops, though. T3, 5+, and terribly reliant on Rending to do their damage. They do have grenades and speed, at least, but that's about it. You have to bring a crap ton of them if you're going to go Slaaneshi pure.

As for the Seekers? If I'm bringing 'nettes, I think I'd bring more Daemonettes, or more fiends before looking at these.

Heralds, though? I think that Chariot Heralds can be pretty nasty, but they still have the Slaaneshi problem where someone left the durability at home.

Interesting. The Thirsting One was always my favourite of the Four.

You should have checked your spelling and grammar twice, though ;)

nice article but it'd look a hell of a lot more professional if it didn't read like it was written by a child.

If I take a Slaanesh Herald, it's in a Chariot. It is just sick in one of those. Fiends are one of my favourite units in the whole Codex.

Makes me wonder how I get so little in my 2k lists!

Don't you fear deep striking your big units on top of each other by deploying like that?

Where does it say that the Masque can never join another squad? I don't have the codex handy, but I don't remember seeing this.
  • BeastOfShadow · 5 months ago
She doen't get the IC rule so is a unit by herself, like a Greater Demon.

    grammer bad speling bad!

That is a headache to read...

Hmmm. Not much here other than "I take the slaanesh marked units, they are what they are."

I think mono-slaanesh is the weakest of the 4 gods with this codex, but some of their units are really excellent support squads in a multi-god army. Fiends are incredible and seekers are the best fast attack in the codex. Daemonettes aren't bad but they are really squishy for a close combat unit. Slaanesh is really going to excel as the attacker in planetstrike with the altered force org chart, but I don't think a mono-slaanesh army is that strong in vanilla 40k.
  • Magustheseer · 5 months ago
I totally agree, whereas the other mono-god armies always have at least one interesting synergy, the mono-slaneesh one only seems to have great speed and pavane which is rather redundant except if you're storming a bunker in a planetary assault
they kinda lack the resilience or raw power the others gods can get

    POOR grammar, POOR spelling.

I nearly tabled 1500 pts of Slaanesh Daemons with the same number of IG this weekend in a tourney. All that was left was 4 Daemonettes holding an objective. Officer of the fleet = WIN. That being said, the next round I tried the same tactics against a pure Khorne list and got tabled on turn 4.

I enjoy playing a Nette/Noisemarine Slaan army. I find tossing in a little power armor helps to make the army a little more durable.
Despite how effective Fiends are I can't bring myself to include any in my force...I find the models way too ugly.
Now that I think about it why is there such an inverse relationship between how nice a model looks to how it performs on the table? (good looking models suck, fugly ones do well)
  • rockdeity · 5 months ago
I love the idea of seekers in a mixed-god list. They seem better per points than daemonettes (for 3 points more, one more attack and become cavalry) and though not as good as fiends, approach the same utility in a rarely taken force org category (Fast). I wonder though, what do people do for seeker models? You need to use a lot to make it worth it to. 10 at the bare minimum, I would think.

You mentioned that the Masque can never join a squad. My wife, who plays daemons, and I went back through the codex and could find no rule stating that effect. Heralds are designed to be included in units, leading and causing havoc similar to an aspiring champion or what have you. The Masque is wonderful at giving the squad an instrument and of course the obviously great Eternal Dance. She does lose soporific musk when she joins a squad, but for us that is a small thing to concede overall. At 100 pts the Masque is the cheapest of the named heralds and at only 30 more pts than a herald with pavane you get the eternal dance and a 3+ invulnerable save. In our opinion this makes the Masque well worth it.
  • PinkTerror · 5 months ago
You're right, there's no rule that says she can't. However, she has no rule that says she can. Just because she's a Herald; there's no special rule for Heralds that says they are part of a unit or can join one. It is the Independent Character rule that gives Heralds the right to join a unit. And The Masque does not have the Independent Character rule. And none of her other rules allows her to join a unit either. Therefore, she cannot join a unit.
  • armbarred · 5 months ago
This has to be a typo. She's the only named Herald who can't. It is an obvious oversight and I think anyone who says she can't in actuality is being a tool.
  • PinkTerror · 5 months ago
It makes sense if you read her write-up in the codex. She's supposed to be a loner. Regardless, she's not an independent character, so you just can't add a special rule just because you want to unless you're using house rules and then you can do whatever.
  • Old_Paladin · 5 months ago
It's not a typo, nor is it an oversight.
She cannot join units (as she is a unit, not an independant character; I believe fantasy has further rules stating she cannot join units).
It is the reason she is the cheapest herald; for all her strengths, being all alone is her weakness.
Read the tactica of the Masque in the deamons articules on the main website, an entire part of the articule is about this.
  • qwack · 5 months ago
It's not a typo or oversight. This is part of the Masque's fluff that she cannot join squads because she is forever cursed by Slaanesh to dance. It works the exact same way in Fantasy.

If she does not have the Independent Character rule she cannot join squads. Period. It's part of what makes her unique.

MOST heralds are designed to help out squads, but the Masque is not. She is unique in that regard. That's one of the reasons she gets a 3+ invul and is not so expensive (because she cannot be hidden in a squad).
