40K RUMOR: Dark Eldar In The Can

REAL WORLD: Bolters are Real!
I want to play 40K as a computer game, not Warcraft in a 40K wrapping.
I think I'll stick with the original Dawn of War series.
Yes, I'm sure there are campaigns other than the space marines.
You have Eldar, Orks, Marines and Tyranids in this one.
I've not seen the video, as they wont load at work, but I'll take a look at it tonight!
While watching the trailer, I was thinking more of Diablo II and Warcraft III than e.g. Command & Conquer as well. I have to say I like the DoW II approach, though they could probably sell to me any game with a 40K tag on it.
Does anybody know wether there will be one for the Mac?
but not turn based and hopefully able to be played past the lord of change :)
And smaller squad based combat could be interesting but I am unconvinced at this point that it's something that works for Warhammer 40,000, at least in the manner they are presenting it. If this were a Space Hulk game I would be much more enthusiastic about the direction they are taking.
However, I think that until we have intelligent AI that you can say "assault that area using 'x' tactics" and then go off and command something else, smaller squads is what we're going to have.
If Endwar AI is as good as it's been presented, then the RTS market might be in for a big change in the following year or two.
In fact they are moving quite a bit away from the RTS genre in general an more towards squad-based tactic games like Commandos or the Space Marine Tactics game on the Nintendo DS (which was brilliant, but I forgot the name ...)
Since this is actually quite similar to how I play RTS games anyway (optimizing synergies between different units, keeping losses as low as possible, etc. I really do like this new approach. It is more in line with the books or the fluff in general, or maybe small games with less than 1000 Points and not so much like Apocalypse, but it definitely captures the 40K spirit.
DoW was/is a good RTS, DoW2 looks like it is shaping up to become a good tactic game. I have to agree though, that it is a bit strange that they use DoW2 as a name for something that appears to be quite different from the original DoW...
I've heard various comments that it seems to be going along more of a company of heroes route (not that I can comment, haven't played CoH)
Someone got RTS in my RPG. And it sure as hell doesn't look like 40k. I mean thats clearly a space marine. But he seems to have left behind his other 7 squad members to go poncing around in a three.
And did I here him say force commander? Isn't that the techincal term for the captain in charge of the battle area if multiple companys are involved? Is he really walking around with that smaller escort?
... Great graphics, maybe good game, but warhammer? Not seeing it yet.
Also, Dawn of War two? Show me the links to DOW. Just one. Except they both have blood ravens.
they're all from the first one those vids
but tactics game could be fun too so we'll see. as long as pathfinding is better than in DOW (so no squads get stuck cause 3 people off diferent squads went up snogging behind some wierdly placed tree...) it will be cool
1) My PC is now too old to run it.
2) I have too many real GW models to work on and doing so is still way more fun than playing a computer game for me. With massive ongoing projects for both new and existing armies of models, it will save me some time and money by staying away from DoW II.
When details about Dawn of War II were first coming out, I was ecstatic. Interactive cityscapes with an active cover system, Space Marines deploying in numbers closer to what you would find in written fluff, campaign persistant consequences of casualties, and a Warboss that wasn't Gorgutz (look, I enjoyed him in Dawn of War, but I honestly wanted to see someone different in this new game, but more on that later...) Some alarms went off in the back of my head when I read little blurbs about "collecting wargear" and "acid chainswords" but I pushed them aside and waited in anticipation for more info.
Time passed and the biggest news soon became the new intro animation, which is very nice, though with it came the news that once again we would have a female Farseer leading the Eldar forces. Sidestepping any arguments about gender representation in 40k, this disappointed me as I really wanted to see less more of the same as far as representation of the various armies of 40k went. I certainly was happy once the full movie was revealed and we learned of the Tyranids being included as the 4th army.
Now lots of details about the campaign have been coming out, and that alarm I had been hearing earlier is going full force. The Warboss we have seen dies early in the campaign and is replaced by Gorgutz. Wargear dropping left and right from filthy aliens (inexplicably of Imperial make) is apparently picked up and wielded with abandon by Space Marines, squads are much smaller than I had expected, and our squad leaders can never die because the plot can't afford to lose them. There are BOSS FIGHTS, something the industry still cannot seem to escape in genres where it is no longer appropriate. The squad-based tactics we have been promised are painfully simple and obvious and are nothing new: Having a Librarian use Smite on a squad from the enemy's flank while other marines ran up in the original DoW gave us the same thing as what we see in this video, and I have trouble seeing what else there could be if this is all there is to it. The leveling system I do not mind so much but it seems rather basic and not very engaging, so I ask "What's the point?"
I will continue to follow development of the game but I'm already sorely disappointed with the direction the sequel has taken. This, coupled with the Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine game, seems to be shaping up for a very gross misrepresentation of the IP in the coming years to a large number of people completely new to the setting and I don't look forward to how it will affect the inevitable new influx of tabletop players.
In other news about GW games, what is everyones thought on Warhammer online?

Interesting the idea of cover being more important. Also did I hear right that the squad leaders come back to life but can't do anything until their 'revived' somehow?
I'm quite looking forward to this game!
