Bell of Lost Souls: SNEAK PEAK: Forgeworld Model Masterclass

Looks like a pretty sweet book. Might need to check it out.

I've just spent the weekend painting some of my Tau for an upcoming tourney. Really loving the purple scheme I've cranked out. Should be quite nice once they're finished.

Anyone else got any weekend projects cranking?

from the photos it seems (not really suprising though), they use alot airbrush. But it might still be worth a look when its out.

There is a thread on this over at Warseer, as well, where ALF posted the material. Basically, while the book looks nice (in the preview) it's been noted that from looking at the 34 page preview, it looks like FW has simply written their own version of the following books:

Mig Jimenez's "F.A.Q.: Frequently Asked Questions on the AFV Painting Techniques" (Andrea Press)
John Prigent's "Armour Modelling (Modelling Masterclass)" (Osprey)

FW's book is a literally lift and copy of armour modelling techniques that have been developed and explained by Mid and John. FW's book even uses Mig's line of MIG pigments pretty extensively to do these effects.

It looks like a great book, but it's not the 1st to deal with these topics.

So as I assumed from the title, it's just an advanced painting book? What about conversions and modeling?

    It's PEEK, people.

    Sneak PEEK.

As suggested above, there are already huge sneak peeks on the Internet for this book. I've heard Imperial Armour books humorously and facetiously referred to as "tank porn" because of their visual appeal and this one seems to fit that description even more than the others. While it likely isn't breaking any new ground compared to existing painting guides by other publishers, for those who want to see step-by-step tried and true advanced painting techniques described and pictured specifically on Forge World models, it may be worth it.

I originally wasn't going to get that book, but the preview was enough to convince me.

And those other books mentioned in the above comments.. Sounds like some Amazon lovin' time.

That is OK if they are rehashing FAQ, that book does a poor job of actually explaining things. Plus those AFV people would never in a million years consider painting a 40k model. So I'm pretty happy about this.

I am also very happy that they are using Mig's stuff as I just bought a whole load of it. Including his new DVDs. I haven't ever actually 'bought' a FW book, but this is for sure on my list. Anyone have a date?

Where was this? Damn I missed it! Maybe because I was standing in line for hour and twenty minutes!! :) Can't wait to get this, it's a Fine Scale Military mag (book) for "us" 40K players!!

truckstattoosthis is awesome, this is something we need, i would also like to see a paint guide using the new gw foundations. I would also like to know if gw plans on doing the thunderhawk in plastic. i believe all of us 40k players would like to see one buy them, it would be alot more affordable, i hope
  • smurfhater · 1 year ago
yeah. maybe while there doing that they could make it look less like a flying box

i would like to see a thunderhawk from GW, and alot more affordable, with this price hike, how are we able to afford to play. these books by FW are great and all, but if GW raises there prices to high we will not be able to afford anything, 40k gamers will do different games. GAMES WORKSHOP be carefull you have a following know, i have been playing since 1986

From a distance, it looks like a bunch of typical modeling notes you can pick up in any 1/48 or 1/35 scale armor modeling guide. Wup de doo da.

On second thought, I miss the days when you would see articles on 40k concerning how to make a tank out of some underarm deoderant tube and common sense. Too bad nothing like that will be in here.
