    Kroot Jungle Warwheels!
  • gilbert93dt · 2 months ago
I'm thinking about a monster truck/defiler kind of thing...
  • Myu · 2 months ago
A shame a lot of the skaven's limbs and their head are fixed. Still, they're very nice models.
  • Jason B · 2 months ago
No, not really. If you've ever made a skaven army before you'll appreciate the limited number of parts. If you haven't, then be quiet and read this.

The old Skaven were notoriously difficult to rank up after assembly and you needed to make hundreds of models for a proper skaven horde. A person would be sick of assembling models and breaking off tails and re-gluing to allow for ranking.

These will make the armies much easier to build and rank. Now with the tails as part of the main body, they won't be in the way of ranking.

When GW release the plastic Plague Monks, this was an indicator that they noticed the problem too. Its taken many years to get new skaven models and I applaud the efforts to correct ranking problems.

...Did you even read what he said? It says 'head', not tail. Having the heads separate is nothing but a good thing (See - eldar, IG, SM, etc minis)
  • Myu · 2 months ago
Oh ok, fair enough. I wasn't actually referring to the tails though, just the heads and left arms. Having the heads separate at least (and more head options) would be good

That little dude that rides on the back of the doomwheel is pretty dang sweet... I want it.

I also love the little packs of rats that are running inside the doomwheel, that is just awesome.

the spurs are nice, but what does the finished model look like, outside the box, box art cool but does nothing for the model somebody please post a completed model. i feel that gw has stepped up there efforts and there sculpting has improved greatly keep up the good work. now release a thunder hawk gunship/transport for us die hard gamers/modelers.

Seconded. I May ahve my friends re-cast certain figures so I'll have some spares for conversions, especially for my Plague Marine force.
  • kefka · 2 months ago
    Finally,no monkey limbs!
Doomwheel is not AS great as I thought it would be, but still pretty darn cool. I really love everything on the last sprue shown.
When I heard rumors of a new doomwheel, I never expected this. Good suprise.
  • 7eAL · 2 months ago
Seconded on the monkey limbs. Some of the old heads even looked monkey-like.
  • Myu · 2 months ago
Third on the monkey limbs, they looked awful.
  • TheMightyWarHamster · 2 months ago
these will make awesome conversions for my chaos guard army. clanrats for conscripts, doomwheel for stumblegun. *happy*
  • Angelic_Despot · 2 months ago
I think it's a real shame that the models aren't multi-part and poseable, but that seems to be the way they're going with (especially WFB) plastics.

On the other hand, they do look beautiful (actually like rat-men) and I love the ball and socket arm joints: that will help the models look a lot more individual.

when looking at the store yesterday my mate decided he was doing skaven because the doomwheel looked cool. he only got more excited when we told him that his basic troops (of which he'd need 16 gajillion) are 3 peice models. I think going with very few peices is a good thing, just think of when you had to assemble 60 guard who are all 5 points per model and how annoying it was. now on a space marine or something where you only need 30 poseablility is great but when there are loads of nameless spods you just want them done a lot of the time
  • Lord_Gir · 2 months ago
i think the poseability issue is purely rank-related, something 40k models never ever have to consider. apparently the old skaven, which were multipart, were hell to rank up, especially with their tails. i love these models though. I was about to start a skaven army 'cos they were the only army my friends didn't have, now i'm really glad i chose them because they look soo cool with all the new kits coming out. can't wait to see the screaming bell!

First thing I thought of when seeing the doomwheel was how painful it would be to paint...

Deffinitely one I would consider painting before assembly.
  • Myu · 2 months ago
I always paint before assembly, unless (as with some tau vehicles or lotr models) it doesn't make a difference. Then again, I know people who could paint the 2nd ed marines bolt gun when it was glued to the figure - Without accidentally painting the marine's body at the same time! Well... that and I don't paint that often. But hey.

Loving them all. Any word on the battalion contents?

Interesting box set. It is more like a combined clan rat and slaves box, because the bodies on the first sprue look more armed while the bodies on the second have shabby cloaks and even shackles.
    This allows some awesome possibilites.

Doomwheel? I think you mean GIGANTIC TYRES FOR MY ORK MONSTER TRUKKS
  • Dr Henry Killinger · 2 months ago
I think it looks more Nurgle-like...
  • BrassScorpion · 2 months ago
I built the DOOMWHEEL for my local GW store yesterday. Interesting kit and very well done. Lots of great little humorous details in it. For the sake of immediate display I built it in its entirety, but if I was building one for myself I would definitely paint some parts along the way before completing assembly.
  • asymmetricalxeno · 2 months ago
I hope these new kits inspire some people to do some 40k space skaven armies..
  • Kepora · 2 months ago
My Rust Rats of SKey-Fenn are a small step in that direction, methinks. (It's a Skaven-converted Plague Marine army...just need to find a way to put more Skaven stuff in it!)
  • magiler · 2 months ago
I hope that NO! It's enough that this Space Dwarf mini appeared last days, informing us that interstellar gnomes are unfortunately not fully dead!
  • oblivion_necroninja · 2 months ago
That's only because it's not painted red yet.
  • Dr Henry Killinger · 2 months ago
I have a book of Jes Goodwin's artwork where he did some concept sketches for 40K Skaven. The style was based on WWI trench warfare concepts with a lot of steampunk influences. It is a shame they never went through it it, but I think it would have played too much like a Guard infantry horde (though I think it would be easy enough to make a Skaven 40K list using the Guard Codex...).
  • BittenByDesign · 2 months ago
I am surprised as well they went for the solid body, legs and head. I would of preferred a true multipart kit. But we may see that through other sets.
  • l192837465 · 2 months ago
You obviously never assembled 200 clantrats that ranked up WITH TAILS. It is 100% a pain in the [cheese it]!
  • LordSandwich · 2 months ago
Damn, this sucks. Looks like I'm starting Skaven now.
  • Mastahh B · 2 months ago
After assembling 15 of the 40 clanrats for my LGS the only issue I have with them is that w/out going the conversion route, they're not very customizable. Not that you really want to customize 40 rats, but I would like to put a shield on the other arm every now and then yknow? GORGEOUS sculpts and minimal mold lines help make up for it though. It is awesomely simple to build a rat, and this works out nicely for anyone wanting to easily build a horde type army.

I'll be working on the DoomWheel tonite and will be posting up pics eventually showing the building process on my blogsite. Wish me luck!
