I wasn't actually referring to the tails though, just the heads and left arms. Having the heads separate at least (and more head options) would be good

Re: WFB: Skaven Doomwheel and Clanrat Sprues

You obviously never assembled 200 clantrats that ranked up WITH TAILS. It is 100% a pain in the [cheese it]!

Re: WFB: Skaven Doomwheel and Clanrat Sprues

After assembling 15 of the 40 clanrats for my LGS the only issue I have with them is that w/out going the conversion route, they're not very customizable. Not that you really want to customize 40 rats, but I would like to put a shield on the other arm every now and then yknow? GORGEOUS sculpts and minimal mold lines help make up for it though. It is awesomely simple to build a rat, and this works out nicely for anyone wanting to easily build a horde type army.

I'll be working on the DoomWheel tonite and will be posting up pics eventually showing the building process on my blogsite. Wish me luck!

Re: WFB: Skaven Doomwheel and Clanrat Sprues

Damn, this sucks. The style was based on WWI trench warfare concepts with a lot of steampunk influences. It is a shame they never went through it it, but I think it would have played too much like a Guard infantry horde (though I think it would be easy enough to make a Skaven 40K list using the Guard Codex...).

Re: WFB: Skaven Doomwheel and Clanrat Sprues

I think it looks more Nurgle-like...

Re: WFB: Skaven Doomwheel and Clanrat Sprues

I hope that NO! Interesting kit and very well done. Lots of great little humorous details in it. For the sake of immediate display I built it in its entirety, but if I was building one for myself I would definitely paint some parts along the way before completing assembly.

Re: WFB: Skaven Doomwheel and Clanrat Sprues

No, not really. If you've ever made a skaven army before you'll appreciate the limited number of parts. If you haven't, then be quiet and read this.

The old Skaven were notoriously difficult to rank up after assembly and you needed to make hundreds of models for a proper skaven horde. A person would be sick of assembling models and breaking off tails and re-gluing to allow for ranking.

These will make the armies much easier to build and rank. Now with the tails as part of the main body, they won't be in the way of ranking.

When GW release the plastic Plague Monks, this was an indicator that they noticed the problem too. Its taken many years to get new skaven models and I applaud the efforts to correct ranking problems.

Re: WFB: Skaven Doomwheel and Clanrat Sprues

i think the poseability issue is purely rank-related, something 40k models never ever have to consider. apparently the old skaven, which were multipart, were hell to rank up, especially with their tails. i love these models though. I was about to start a skaven army 'cos they were the only army my friends didn't have, now i'm really glad i chose them because they look soo cool with all the new kits coming out. can't wait to see the screaming bell!

Re: WFB: Skaven Doomwheel and Clanrat Sprues

Doomwheel? It is more like a combined clan rat and slaves box, because the bodies on the first sprue look more armed while the bodies on the second have shabby cloaks and even shackles.
This allows some awesome possibilites.

Re: WFB: Skaven Doomwheel and Clanrat Sprues

I always paint before assembly, unless (as with some tau vehicles or lotr models) it doesn't make a difference. Then again, I know people who could paint the 2nd ed marines bolt gun when it was glued to the figure - Without accidentally painting the marine's body at the same time! Well... that and I don't paint that often. But hey.

Re: WFB: Skaven Doomwheel and Clanrat Sprues

when looking at the store yesterday my mate decided he was doing skaven because the doomwheel looked cool. he only got more excited when we told him that his basic troops (of which he'd need 16 gajillion) are 3 peice models. I think going with very few peices is a good thing, just think of when you had to assemble 60 guard who are all 5 points per model and how annoying it was. now on a space marine or something where you only need 30 poseablility is great but when there are loads of nameless spods you just want them done a lot of the time

Re: WFB: Skaven Doomwheel and Clanrat Sprues

Loving them all.
